I sneaked around past the tents quietly, my heart beating out of my chest. I gently cried out, “Yelena. Yelena, this isn’t fun anymore.” I took a pause waiting for a respond. I then heard small footsteps run, she was there. She took a turn around into one of the tents. I ran after her inside. Inside was Yelena standing next to an injured young man. I gasped when I saw the sight of him.
I whispered; “Yelena, get over here.”
The princess just looked at me and went closer to the man’s bedside. She looked down at him softly. I could sense the empathy. I remember him being asleep but some say he just had his eyes closed. He breathed loudly through his bandaged neck. His face had blood stains and he smelled like medical herbs. He had a cast around his arm and a bandage over his eye. His hair was so light it was looked white with the sun rays peeping through the blinds.
“Don’t touch him.” I said lowly to Yelena. “We have to go now, c’mon!” I grabbed her arm and tried pulling her away but she refused to move.
“I don’t want to leave him alone,” she whined, “What if he dies by himself?”
“He does not fight for your country, why should you care?” I pouted. “Now let’s go we do not belong here, don’t you understand? If he wakes up we are in big trouble.”
Before Yelena could argue back, the man moved. I hid away quickly while the idiot princess stayed at his bedside. I remained silent though, I didn’t want to make any sudden movements.
I heard him ask for water in a very low rustled voice.
“Don’t have any.” Yelena told him.
The mysterious man spoke again, “Who…are…you?”
“My name is Yelena and I’m the princess of Secrete. I hope you are feeling fine now mister soldier.”
“I am not a…” the man stopped himself from saying the rest and coughed. Looking around, noticing his surroundings.
“It’s okay you don’t have to speak. But, I would like to know what your name is.” It was strange how gentle she spoke towards a stranger but not towards anyone else. She showed this man more respect than her own father. I don’t know why but now that I think on it, it was probably because she felt he was going to die soon. Yelena always had a soft spot for the weak and defeated.
His mouth was chapped; when he spoke he had to smack his mouth together like an old man. It was probably due to the medicine at the time.
