I don't like talking about myself, so, uh...yeah. lol. I'm a major gamer, I read a lot of books (physics, math, philosophy, fantasy), watch and read some anime, and spend the rest of my time being annoyed at gravity for restricting me to being able to do only one front flip at a time.
I've posted a few of the articles/essays I've written, so if you're ever interested in reading anything that I have thought about or researched, check out my articles world, Kastom's Thoughts.
And the essentials:
Kastom's Bio:
Birth date: September 10, 1989
Sex: Male
Real Name: Tomas (Tom)
Living: Ontario, Canada
Occupation: University of Waterloo Undergraduate Physics Major
And I leave you with a quote from Adam which sums me up well:
"Kastom is very smart and wise, but sometimes he acts like a n00blet..."
So I've been using ZSNES SNES emulator for many, many years now. My brother and I have used it extensively, playing pretty well every SNES game ever. We have also used it many times to do some very fun and amusing "hacking"-like stuff.
Basically, ZSNES has this built in option that allows you to search for variable values. It's pretty easy to do things like give yourself infinite health, or of something with an obvious value. However, one thing that we figured out was how to use this to be able to change other, much more subtle things in games.
Personally, I find some of the things I've done absolutely hilarious, on top of being awesomely cool. lol. It's soooo much fun trying to break the game in cool ways...
Here's a video of some of my hacks that I've created for Harvest Moon.
EDIT: Oh, and just to point out something I noticed after watching it again. I did not mean to make that look like a cross (you'll see what I mean)! I was going for a T. lol.
Like the "digger" I made? I can't even remember how I stumbled upon that one, but man, it has to be probably the best one I've made for any game yet. Although there are some others that would be very close.
I'll post some of the other games I've done sometime soon. I have midterms coming up next week, so I'll be studying all weekend, but I'll probably do this for breaks.
And if anyone is interested, I could even make a video showing how I did this, cause it really is very fun. Especially since there is basically a limitless amount of things you can do with this.
I am going all out for the Halloween Writing Jam. I'm not going to say anything at all though. I don't even want to say how good I think it'll be. I'm just putting it out there that I'm doing SOMETHING for it.
...
...
GAH. MUST NOT SAY ANYTHING.
...
...
RESIST.
RESIST!!!!
Wow, Mystery Science Theatre 3000 is freaking amazing. That was soooo funny watching last night with Movie Sign.
PACKERS!! WOOOOOO!!!
And then I went and watched a few of the shorts with my roommate who also thought they were freaking hilarious. I'm going to see if he'll join theO and watch them with us every Sunday. I also know another guy that might be interested.
Played some more Vesperia this morning and yesterday morning. Man, that game is starting to get good. I really like the feel of it. Overall, it seems like a more mature Tales game. Especially the main character, Yuri. They did a really good job with his personality.
And man, I just met Judith! Super hot character!! lol. She's almost as good as Sheena! Hahahahaha... but really, it was so funny when Yuri and her first met. He was totally hitting on her and checking her out, and not in a subtle way at all. It was so funny!
Man, Vesperia is shaping up to be a VERY good game.
Also played some Brawl and Mario Kart Wii online this afternoon. It's so stupid how laggy Brawl, is, especially when MK works perfectly. Gah it pisses me off, 'cause I REALLY want to play some Brawl online.
Also sucks that I can't play Halo 3 online. My University's internet doesn't let it work or something. It almost connects, but it can't pass one test, and as far as I've been able to figure out, there's no way to fix it.
Ah well, such is life, eh?
Got a good chunk of assignments done early by doing about half of two of them today, so I'm pretty happy about that. I will still probably do a bit more tonight, just to get even further ahead, so that I can start studying for my three midterms next week.
And so ends Thanksgiving weekend. Mine was pretty good. How was the other Canadians'?
I'll probably be in chatroom tonight as well. I'm probably going to end up making it a habit to be there every night, though weekdays might be a little more iffy.
Well I think I'll go work out, then cook some dinner. I'm thinking teriyaki beef and rice...
So it's Thanksgiving Weekend!! At least in Canada. I know that the US has something different or something.
I WOULD be going to my cottage and see my family, buuuuut, instead I am staying at University.
Why?
Because I need to study. So very much so.
I have the usual amount of assignments per weekend (three), but the main thing is that I have midterms coming up, and I REALLY do not feel prepared enough. So in short, I'm spending my long weekend in my room, studying and doing assignments.
Well, that's what University is all about I guess, eh?
At least one of my roommates is still here. The other went home yesterday afternoon.
On to other things...
Man, the Chatroom is so cool! I'm totally new to it, as when I left in the spring, it did not exist. But last night I definitely broke my chatroom virginity.
....
....
Where the crap did that come from?
I'm very tired.
Anyways, it was like, about midnight, when I was thinking of going to bed due to extreme tiredness, when I decided to check out the chatroom thing again (I've gone in once before for a bit, but didn't really do anything). And man, am I ever so happy I did!
First thing I noticed was that Pleiades Rising was there. And I was like, "zomg!!"
...
..
lol.
Anyways, totally cool to see you again Pleiades. And then also talked a bunch with good ol' SomeGuy, and Sangome, as well as a bunch of people I've heard of, but never actually seen/talked to.
Basically it was a great hour and a half. I'm totally going to start frequenting there. I'm just going to have to be more strict on making myself leave when I REALLY need to sleep. lol.
Also, Anime Club thingy tonight! I'm definitely going to check it out, and see how it is. It sounds like fun! And then tomorrow, that Movie club thingy.
All in all, I think I'm coming back, and I'm going all out.
This semester is very difficult. Mainly due to the fact that it is my program's weed-out semester.
Most program's at University have their weed-out semesters during first year, but for some reason, Physics here at Waterloo is first semester of second year. And how well it achieves it's goal.
I was talking with a bunch of upper year physics students a while ago at the Physics student-prof night, and it was kinda amusing. None of them are going to finish Physics in the normal four years, mainly due to this term. Something like at least 50% of people fail out of Physics during this term, and a good percentage of others fail at least one class.
It's a very intense course load I can tell you.
So basically, I've been trying to go to bed early lately to catch up on my lost sleep due to constant assignments. I swear, I don't ever actually stop working. I have classes, do assignments, sleep, and repeat.
Well, if I'm lucky, I do get an hour, or possibly even an hour and a half of playing some video game or watching anime.
But all in all, I have to admit, I am thoroughly enjoying this. It's exciting, interesting, and best of all, challenging.
Still, I DO miss being able to you, play video games and stuff.
lol.
I recently bought Tales of Vesperia. Totally awesome game so far. I applaud Namco for breaking RPG standards, although this may be a rather horrifying fact to hear for some, so only read on if you are not of the faint of heart:
The main character is 21.
That's right, he's OVER THE AGE OF 18. And this isn't the cool best friend, or older mentor or anything we're talking about here, this is the main guy.
Although, so far the other characters are pretty typical:
- pink haired girl princess who just wants everyone to get along
- little boy who acts tough (but only to cover up his insecurity) and uses weapons at least as large as him
- annoying girl who thinks she's the best and doesn't listen to anyone
These are only the characters I know so far (I'm only about 13 hours in).
Oh, and there's the dog. Pretty well the greatest dog ever thought up by mankind.
Other dogs have had scars,
Other dogs have had funky colouring,
Other dogs have had cool chains they wear,
But no other dog has a pipe.
That's right, Repede (the dog), always has a pipe in his mouth.
Oh, and he fights with a sword.
I also bought Bioshock a week before buying Vesperia, so I got some playing of it in, but I don't expect to be going back to it for some time. Maybe next year when I'm done Vesperia and don't have quantum mechanical probabilities breathing down my neck, waiting to be done.
Anyways, it seems I just may stick around here a while longer, so I think I'm going to start getting back into the habit of looking at other people's going on's.
But not tonight.
For tonight I sleep.
Cheers,
- Kastom
P.S. That anime club thingy I saw on the Watercooler sounded interesting. I think I'll check it out this weekend.
