Hello there, this is Katana, also known as Kat in some circles. I'm your friendly neighborhood twenty-two-year-old illustrator/writer whose sarcasm is second to none and harboring the ability to verbalize the parentheses in stories. I drink coffee and draw like an addict and am liable to get you into things that I like. Currently the wielder of a BFA in Illustration and a minor in English.

Questions? Comments? Death threats? Feel free to PM or message me in some iteration. I'm always around, you just don't know it.

My oxymoronic break

Basically, this winter break is set to be the most productive and yet totally not break ever.

I think it's 'cause when I think "productive", I think, I dunno, doing things to better help my future. Like build my portfolio site. Hm. When IS that gonna happen?

You know what game I got Friday? Only the most anticipated game ever that nobody knew was anticipated - Golden Sun: Dark Dawn! The third in line of the amazingly super awesome Golden Sun series that nobody has heard of but what made every GBA game after I got it first seem like chump change. I should do what Waffuru did with Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep and make a play-by-play log. Maybe when I do my second run-through.

To further complicate matters, I set a goal for myself of learning to use acrylic paint over break. So I bought acrylic paint. And then proceeded to get mad at it for not behaving the way I want it to. The battle wages on.

And then I want to take another crack at a comic that is like Golden Sun in the fact that nobody will care about it. What was it again? Tati's Timey-Wimey Christmas? I was thinking of trying another 12 Days of Christmas parody, since the one I did two years ago fell through due to issues in the real world. That'd be fun to occupy my time. And torture myself with.

Frankly though, winter break isn't supposed to be productive, especially since I've got five weeks and, well, the semester's over. I love that break from the middle/high school years, wherein teachers could throw homework at you. Rrr!

And of note, Movie Sign Rewind tonight! Please keep in mind that copyright has reared its questionable head, so it's a download.

There are ducks in the bathroom

Coming home for break was a weary task that involved first clearing my car of snow and ice, then dragging down everything, followed by two trips to the fourth floor of the art building to get all my paintings and things. Ugh.

Then I got to come home! And there was coffee!

But then I went to the bathroom and saw strange shapes hanging from the lights. So I turned the lights on.

Huh.

Anyway, I'm on break! Six finals done and five weeks to relax.

ALSO, IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN MY ILLUSTRATION FINAL, THEN SHAME ON YOU

*smacked*

Behold, my dorky analogies!

Before 6pm:

Japanese art history is like the Daleks. You think you kill it/them, but it/they keep coming back to bite you in the ass.

Hopefully it won't come back and interfere in my season finale. The Big Bang, not Journey's End!

After 8pm:

I totally went Ace on the Daleks in the metaphorical sense of BASHING IT WITH A BASEBALL BAT. Japanese art history, you are OWNED!

In summary:

I'm done with ArtH 379-B, Far Eastern Art: Japan. Finished. Once we left the building, I screamed out my joy. Yes. Screamed. It was great.

Was this supposed to be a surprise or...

Dunno if I should or should not keep this under wraps, but considering maybe ten people read my journal*, I figured it wouldn't be so bad. Also, it isn't like...super important as a secret...

A couple (literally two) months ago, Ichigo of the podcast/Anime Pulse podcast got married. Huzzah! We knew about this for a while, and I got the idea to rope TimeChaser into coming up with a present for him. After a bit of talking, we settled on recording ourselves singing "The Masochism Tango" as a gift. Yes. What a gift.

Turns out, he liked it! And he described our voices as "sweet", which is a nice thing to hear when I think I sound annoying. Then he invited us to be on Anime Pulse.

Sooo we talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and talk and it gets settled that sure, we'll go on! ...After Kat gets out for winter break! (Of which I feel so guilty for because that move seemed to involve a lot of whining on my part.) Then it came down to deciding a series to review.

Which...is hard. I'll admit, I don't watch as much anime as I used to. Um, hardly any these days, actually. Frankly, I don't have the time, but even in the summer I wasn't watching much. Hunting around my pictures folder one day, I came across a screencap a friend on DeviantArt had sent to me - blonde guy with a beard and ponytail kissing a girl with short black hair. I was intrigued, forced my intrigue on TC, and we found that the series it was from is called Allison & Lillia.

THUS, WE FOUND OUR SERIES! Except Batou reviewed it like two and a half years ago. BUT NOT THE WHOLE SERIES SO WE GOT OUR TICKET!

What this means to you, the poor person reading this, is that me and TC are going to be on Anime Pulse in a couple weeks. Sometime between the end of my finals and Christmas, to give a slightly less vague time frame. Then you can hear me swear like a sailor and verbally harass men 10+ years older than me! I apologize to everyone everywhere in advance for that.

(* Based upon comments received on posts. I think the percentage of people who comment is around 6% of my actual subscriber number. Ooooh! Comment guilt! I'm learning much from you, Ichigo! But remember - it's easier to look at a picture than read words. DOUBLE-BLADED DISS/UNDISS TO MYSELF!)

It Isn't What You Think

Because psychoanalytical analysis has embedded itself in my brain. I find the topic interesting and simultaneously hilarious, so I'm using it to write an essay with for English. Written with the you-know-who duo for lulz and randomness....
