Ahh...weekends at campus. They're a fun time, mostly spent eating and doing art homework (ha!). But this weekend has been a bit more something.
Thursday night I got my new cell (via 2-year upgrade), a Pantech Jest that I've dubbed Alphonse 2.0 ('cause the original cell was Alphonse, you see).
It slides to reveal the keyboard and stuff of that nature. So far I've been playing with the keyboard to get used to it, but it shall all come in time. I've mainly been using it to communicate at night (when I should be sleeping) by hiding under the bed covers and texting to one person in particular. It's like I'm five or something.
Today, me and the crew went out shopping to Michaels to pick up paint and other such supplies. Lauren and I really want to decorate the room more for whatever occassion and began poking at the clearance items. She picked up a bowl and we began to muse.
"This would be so cool for a fish."
"I dunno..."
"Betta fish wouldn't be hard to keep. I've had them."
"Ooh! We should get one!"
"We should!"
So we got the bowl, got some rocks, and then went over to PetCo and bought our fish.
(From when we were acclimating the water temperature.)
We named her Iris, though since we kept calling her "little lady" before we thought of a name, we use that as a nickname. She has turquoise strips in her too that you see in better light, so she's quite pretty. And because I have less stuff on my desk, she gets to be on my side. 8D
After the excitement of getting a fish, we decided to run an experiment on Terumi and Jiaqi, which was watching Monty Python and the Holy Grail. They'd never seen it, so we decided they had to in order to be considered American (pardon the irony). The experiment was a success, though in a weird way, as their favorite parts were the animations rather than the scenes.
Though it is fun to have an excuse to say "ni!" to people.
In Tuesday's Illustration class, we had a demo by an illustrator/painter dude. His name always gets mixed up in my head despite being a relatively simple name.
Anyway, as he was doing his painting thing for us, he at one point paused and said stuff. I don't remember it all, but part of it was "like, you know, that Japanimation stuff" (I'm pretty sure he spoke negatively about it), but I just started cracking up.
"Japanimation?" I managed to whisper-giggle to Terumi. "Who the hells says that nowadays?"
Whether or not I remembered to challenge you to my Challenge is not a reflection on whether or not I like you, or if I thought you'd participate, or whatever. It's merely a reflection of my brain and how hard it is to remember things.
So yeah! I've decided to host my second Challenge, Promoting Obscurity. Simply put, you have three months to make a promotion for a/some/all Chat events, current, hiatus, or defunct. It can be in any media, from Words to Walls, but they'll all be submitted via World posts. (Hint: If you want your submission to not be a link to "For that one Challenge of Kat's", title the post with what you call your work).
And yes, I know the favoriting button isn't working right now. That's part of the reason I made the post here. :V
In other news, I worked this past weekend, bussing tables. It was alright, though a touch annoying here and there. Like, for instance, finding out which waitresses tip me better than others. That was a bit aggrivating.
Friday night, however, was strange. I was cleaning table 5 and thinking, "I wonder if any of my professors come here. That'd be funny." I was envisioning my English prof (Van Gogh) for some reason, but yeah.
Literally ten minutes later, I was taking bread 'n spreads to table 4 and heard a veerrrrry familiar voice say hi to me. I look up and just stop, dead in my tracks, still holding onto the items that were to be delivered.
It was the head photography professor/assistant director of the art school/my other boss. And his date. Hahahaha I should tease him about this tomorrow. She just kinda lol'd at the situation while I stared at him and went "Wha wha whaaaaaaaaa".
Then I kinda needled into him about allllll the work I do in school and what I do on he weekends - that job. Baaaah.
I've been punted off to help in the third floor office of the art building. It's the base for my old home of vis comm, meaning I'm rather familiar with the secretary (who likes me) and the professors who take office here.
It's a bit discouraging to not be doing anything, which was the case when I was down in the main office. And for some reasons, all the hours for peer advising were...scheduled around the times I didn't work. Inquiring about this got me nowhere, so I accepted the inevitable (that I was taking up space) and offered myself up to do anything.
Which led me to being punted off to the third floor.
There's two computers up here, a PC and a Mac, and I'm on the Mac for reasons that are beyond me. But it makes me sad, especially because this keyboard makes me type slower. I also cannot figure out the alternative to right-click functions (IE, using spell check), so that is another thing that'll hopefully be learned along the way.
And I still say the interface is counter-intuitive WAIT WTF WHY DIDN'T PRESSING END TAKE ME TO THE END OF THE LINE AHHHHHH to my brain, which has been formulated for about 16 years on an ever-evolving Windows interface. Eat it, Apple! *hits self*
Man I hate this keyboard.
The thing I'm terrified of the most is answering the phone, and no, not for that reason. It's because 90% of the time, I'll be met with a question that I have no idea how to answer. Or I'm going to have to forward the call to someone whose number I don't know off the top of my head like Flo (the secretary, the one that likes me) does.
So it'll be a learning experience.
(CONTROL + CLICK FOR SPELL CHECK APPLE YOUR MOUSE IS FAIL)
If Adam's going to take away your fill, he could have at least rasterized your stroke. :<
(Now I have to go to 8am Illlustration grumblegrumble.)
