Well, yesterday was an interesting day. Snowed like crazy, reportiedly 13 inches or something like that. I did my typical thing of confusing my dad and going outside in the snow to take pictures and the like.
For instance, this was the road behind my house and the cornfields.
It also meant I got called off work, which was fine by my standards. I ended up finding out that they did 16 people and closed at 8. Snap.
But it ALSO meant I got to watch Doctor Who's "End of Time, Part 1", which was epic. Whereas "Waters of Mars" just bummed me out, "End of Time" got me excited. It had adventure, it had High Octane Nightmare Fuel, it had gnarly old people, it had fun, it was great. I'm actually looking forward to next week's epicness, even though it does mean Tennant's departure. But perhaps I've finally made peace with that.
Though there was a part (the High Octane part) that made me scream. I never scream, and even when I do it's more a shout-yell than a shriek. I don't scream at scary things, I don't scream on roller coasters, I don't scream at bug or rodents...but:
Kat: *scream/shout/yell*
Dad: ...What was that?
Kat: ...I screamed?
Dad: Why...?
Kat: 'cause Doctor Who is being freaky...?
Dad: ...Right.
Today, with the roads clear and sun shining, my mom and I went out shopping. Kohls was a bust but Super Target had me in a happy spot. With some money to spend, I picked up Ace of Cakes season 2, Be Kind Rewind, and...some cardstock. Yeah, exciting.
Herein I also learned that my mom knows nothing about the value of DVDs. For instance, she thought it was "ridiculous" that I spent $15 on the Ace of Cakes set. You know, for a full season. ...Yeah.
Now I am starving, Mom is scheming to go out to eat because everyone's going stir crazy, and the last big hoo-rah of Christmas is tonight with the last Movie Sign Rewind, Santa Claus. Depending on the dinner situation, I might be late, but who knows.
I've got 33 minute left of Christmas!
I got a printer as my main gift, one I named Ginko (after the main dude from Mushi-shi). It's a gnarly one that has separate CMYK cartridges.
I also got a waffle iron. Cue lulz.
The morning and early afternoon was spent at my brother and sister-in-law's house, which was filled with delicious food and coffee. Then me and my s-i-l wrangled up the family and got them all to watch Santa Claus. That...just totally made my Christmas.
But the best present I got, you may ask? These. Crayola Window Crayons. They cost like, three or four bucks and can be used to draw on windows and mirrors. And boy have I been doing that.
But when I ran into Chat a bit earlier, I asked what I could draw for Christmas. So here it is:
Evil!Santa!Mike. Yes. Thank you, Kei and Nehs.
Frohe Weinachten!
There's that time...that time of night, between the 24th and 25th of December...it's not Christmas Eve anymore, and yet, to call it truly Christmas just seems kind of wrong.
This is Christmas Limbo, when you're stuck between the moods of the days. And I spent mine in Chat, hanging out and cracking jokes with the crew.
It was a great way to spend the night.
Things that just came in the mail:
1.) A box from TC.
2.) A card from Kastom.
3.) A card from Japan.
Mom's commentary:
1.) "Who do you know in Florida?"
2.) "*proceeds to mispronounce Tom's name*
"I'm really waiting for one from Washington..."
3.) "And one from Washington."
"FREAKIN' FINALLY!"
And as she walked out of the room and saw my dad...
"Mail's here - Ginger got most of it..."
Today is the day I spend with the relatives - more specifically, my dad's side. And since my dad's side never left Wisconsin (he's a rebel for going to Illinois), well...anyone seen the second host segment of "Santa Claus"? It's like that.
So last night was the Doctor Who epic, Waters of Mars, and agh my head is just full. It was epic, and one of my friends on Facebook was watching it at the same time I was, so we were trading comments back and forth every so often. I was randomly tweeting eclectic thoughts on Twitter and getting more deranged as time went on, but yeah, it was cool. Two episodes left. ;~;
But I also found out last night that David Tennant is shooting a pilot FOR NBC OMGWTFBBQ. Rex Is Not Your Lawyer...And since it takes place in Chicago, I can't wait to hear the accentless Midwest accent the Scot does.
Been working the past couple nights, though it hasn't been busy due to the lull before the holidays. We're closed on Friday due to Christmas and I work again Saturday, which is also prone to being dead. Tomorrow is an impromptu movie party with my kiddies from high school, wherein we are to watch The Onion movie, Santa Claus (on me), and...whatever else we can fit in. Heee!
Ah yeah, on Friday, I went to the high school to check things out. I went to see how AP art was doing and ended up sharing what I've done in college (which was like, half random things and half schoolwork) before leading the critique on their art. Agggh! Some kids are on the right path, others got knocked down a peg, and still others need to shape up. I know I did, and I ended up switching my entire portfolio at the semester changes. :
Also on Friday, a package came for me sent by some guy in the north. There were two things inside, but I'm waiting to get a good shot of the second. The first, however...
Heeee~ <3
And this morning, I went on the assault and finally put things up on DeviantArt. Not everything, but lots. I'm having lots of fun drawing stuff this break. To quote myself yesterday - "Winter break is my oyster and I'm painting it how I please."
Oh, and thanks guys for the laptop feedback! I learned a lot, mainly to be embarrassed by my predecessors. :|
