Hello there, this is Katana, also known as Kat in some circles. I'm your friendly neighborhood twenty-two-year-old illustrator/writer whose sarcasm is second to none and harboring the ability to verbalize the parentheses in stories. I drink coffee and draw like an addict and am liable to get you into things that I like. Currently the wielder of a BFA in Illustration and a minor in English.
Questions? Comments? Death threats? Feel free to PM or message me in some iteration. I'm always around, you just don't know it.
"Some of the great artists of our time started off by doodling in class. ...Maybe. Oh heck I dunno."
- Miss Anonymous
Ryu was whining about the car drive to Michigan that's ahead of us, so today I went out and bought Kingdom Hearts 358/Days and Scribblenauts.
Unfortunately, I left my DS at the dorm.
Which is okay, since I have work anyway.
We're four days away from roadtripping and thusly four/five days away from Youmacon. Excitement! I bought some travel supplies, but when looking for Youtsuba&! volume 6 (to give to The Captain), I found the whole section of the bookshelf to be ravaged. I guess somebody REALLY wanted the whole series or something.
The hotel we've got booked is a suite, which also has a kitchenette. Unfortunately, it doesn't have any sort of breakfast deal, so we'll have to have our own food. That's fine...except I really couldn't find anything to bring that was within a price range I was willing to deal with. So I'm guessing we'll be hitting up the grocery stores when we get there. Oh Ne~hs...
Got my test results back from my second Stats exam. Apparently this is a "good indicator" of how you'll do on the final.
I thought I did good, but there were a few I was on the fence about, and you know how life is, it likes to screw you over.
HELL. YEAH. (And yes, I IMMEDIATELY started drawing on it.)
Then we were told that our grades were on the back of our tests. This is where I've been worried, as I have really no solid way ofknowing how well I'm doing in the class. 250 to 225 is an A, 224 to 200 is a B, so on and so forth...
...
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
One week 'til Youmacon. Found out one of my high school friends is going as well. :O
Oh! And after that fire drill from Tuesday, me and Terumi ran into one of her friends who was in the midst of cosplaying Blue from Wolf's Rain and had to go outside in her cosplay. XD She was going to go to Youmacon but her ride canceled out on her at the last minute, so boo. It's fun to nerd right smack in the middle of public places, though.
Things have been chugging along here in the world of Kat. There isn't really much to say - classes still occur, I've got to knock out homework, work is on the weekends, and things of that sort.
This past Saturday, Waffuru had a game night at her house, to which I made those rainbow cupcakes for. The night consisted primarily of Monopoly and Trival Pursuit, proving we have no knowledge in anything pre-1980 and sheer dumb luck will always prevail. Ryu also proved that being really tall and wearing a hat and a trenchcoat will make you look REALLY suspicious.
My parents were gone for the weekend due to my uncle's death, so I...had to take care of the house. With my brother being not just bipolar but also a complete moron, I essentially had to do, well, everything. Cleaning the kitchen, feeding and taking the dogs outside, doing the laundry, and just generally making sure things didn't explode. I got out of there as quickly as I could come Sunday, but the look my dog was giving me mad me so sad. Luckily the parentals were back Sunday night.
And my art classes. Again I'd like to state that Art 102 > Art 100. We're finally busting out into value in both classes though, even if that just means charcoal for Art 100. We went outside Monday since it was actually nice and sunny, but because I cannot draw nature I ended up drawing a pen I found in the grass instead. For 102, we did ink portraits, and those who have been in Chat know of my torture when it comes to these. The class voted my line version as the bet of the class (since I ACTUALLY showed contrast), though the stippled one was very well liked. I was rather miffed when the critique was cut down to the "four best", and my someone...got forgotten. Groan.
Oh, and about the title.
So last night, me, Rebecca, Terumi, and Jiaqi were coming back from 102, and we were about to walk into the entrance to Neptune East when we were pushed back out by fire marshal. Apparently, there was a fire drill going on in Neptune, so we had to camp out in front of the building and wait about five minutes for everyone out to be herded out.
We were outside forever, verified by the fact that I texted Lindsey and she said she "just missed it" (her dorm is further away). When we were finally allowed back in, me, Terumi, and Jiaqi went to the Trident and got some food and just ended up talking about languages and culture and art and school and then finally on boyfriends and husbands. And we determined that Jiaqi, who is so against getting married, will either have a husband in ten years or a bunch of cats. Yeah, I know.
Five-day sweep because I obviously didn't feel like posting the past few days. If you've been in Chat, then you know I've been feeling a lot better, but I'm still bummed. Life goes on.
Sharing is Caring
For one week, recommend/share:
Day one: a song Day two: a picture Day three: a book/ebook/fanfic Day four: a site Day five: a youtube clip Day six: a quote Day seven: whatever tickles your fanc
Day three:
To Each A Tempo, the best fanfiction I ever read in my life. A Phoenix Wright/Elite Beat Agnts crossover, it is a long, epic, detailed, and totally just amazing story. I can actually see the story happen; I feel as if I could play it in both video games.
Day four:
Kinda going on the above, I present to you osu!, which is like Ouendan! or Elite Beat Agents for your compy. Download the program, download beatmaps to over one thousand songs from a rather impressive mix of J-Pop and American pop numbers. When I can have the beatmap to Sakura Kiss and Ready Steady Go! alongside Leave It All To Me and Don't Stop Me Now, you know it's a good day.
Day five:
The phrase "OR YOU'LL GET THE BACK OF MY HAND" is going to be heavily applied to Foof Hiko come Youmacon.
Day six:
I'm a quote monster. Let's go with what I have on Facebook, which houses my all-time favorites.
My life quote: "Being an oddity doesn't bother me, as long as I'm a thought-provoking one." - Joel Hodgson
The quote in my intro: "It's a plot device. It's very flimsy, so be careful." - Crow
More English geeking: "That's a country, not a verb!" - Be Kind Rewind
Graphic design geeking: "OOOoooooooo!! Now who's evil? Forget .gifs, man. I'm an evil .tif! Or maybe an evil 24-bit .png with alpha channel. Or maybe an evil targa file? Whatever those are." - Strong Bad
Me in general: "You're the weirdest person I know." - Brian
I just got a phone call from my mom. My uncle is dying.
My aunt and uncle have four sons. One is my brother's age, one is my age, and two of them are younger.
What if it was my dad.
I'm going to go to the Catholic church here on campus and just...pray.
I hope my roommate doesn't come back in the next few minutes. I haven't been this much of a wreck in a long time.
3:25pm: He died. At least he went quickly and didn't have to linger in pain. I hope he watches over my aunt and his sons and that we all continue on. But he's with Jesus now, and at least not in pain anymore.
