Hello there, this is Katana, also known as Kat in some circles. I'm your friendly neighborhood twenty-two-year-old illustrator/writer whose sarcasm is second to none and harboring the ability to verbalize the parentheses in stories. I drink coffee and draw like an addict and am liable to get you into things that I like. Currently the wielder of a BFA in Illustration and a minor in English.
Questions? Comments? Death threats? Feel free to PM or message me in some iteration. I'm always around, you just don't know it.
"Some of the great artists of our time started off by doodling in class. ...Maybe. Oh heck I dunno."

Last night was senior honors night at the high school. Ryu already talked about this - me and him and our friend Liz sat together and in the back, so we were having a good time entertaining and amusing ourselves. Awards went to the people you'd expect, and I didn't get anything specifically special to me. Got a gold tassel for High Honors and a pin for being on the high honor roll for four years, along with a gold neck-sash for National Honors Society (NHS) and a certificate for being an Illinois State Scholar (ACT + GPA + class rank, only twenty of us got this).
The scholarships took up a huuuge chunk, as did the random sports stuff, so basically our trio began to riff and joke around. Liz and I played rock-paper-scissors ala freshman year underclassmen awards, which was an enjoyable flashback. I think my favorite part, though, is when Ryu and I kept doing this:
Announcer: "[so and so] will be attended [such] University with a full ride for [whatever]."
Kat: "With a new car!"
Ryu: "This 1991 Ford FIESTAAAA!"
Lorenza and I went out to our favorite sushi joint for lunch today, and we ended up hanging out at the place for almost two hours. We ordered four rolls - tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and Boston (which is GOOOOD!) - and swapped them with each other. Then we had chocolate mochi ice cream for dessert...nomf...The whole time was essentially us remembering things from the past and contemplating the daunting future of college.
Oh...
Lorenza: "I've heard a rumor about you and some Canadian...?"
Kat: "*head/table*"
Anyways, my major aggrivation right now is that I'm stuck on the desktop in the basement. Piers's power chord has some frayed wires (from being bent into odd positions?), so I had to order a new one. Worse, it won't come until Monday, which is when I'll be gone on vacation. O_O
Oh, right - going on vacation from Sunday May 31st to Sunday June 7th. I'll be attending Movie Sign as always, though maybe a bit late. My dad is bringing his laptop - first he suggested I bring mine, but then he just defaulted to his. Cool beans.
Today was graduation rehearsal, into which I smuggled my sketchbook and doodled during the times I didn't have to do anything. Then we went to the Cadillac Ranch for a buffet breakfast. It had French toast and bacon and decent coffee, so it was good.
Senior superlatives...yeah, it went to all the folk you think it'd go to. What I thought was funny was that when "Most Artistic" came and went, this AP Photo girl who was sitting at my table shot her gaze at me, flabbergasted. "I thought YOU were going to get it!"
Pssh, nah...
Came home, played Oblivion, then took a long nap. =_=; Got my first graduation present from my grandparents (Mom's parents), which was teh monies. I'm a little bummed that they're not coming to the actual ceremony, since when my oldest brother graudated (I was eight or so), she said she was going to live to see all her grandkids graduate...and she promised she would come.
Well...not so much the last one...
Ah well. Me and my family are going out for dinner at my place of work after the ceremony, which is going to be a grand ol' time. Me and my sister-in-law are already drooling over the garlic salad dressing at the salad bar.
Wednesday was the senior picnic. Since me, Lorenza, and Ryu weren't really in a group, the three of us kinda drifted around until about 11, when our friend Gerrit appeared with a propane grill. Grills bring people together or something, because that's when we found our group. I also ate way too much, because after lunch I passed out on a blanket for an hour. Got a gnarly sunburn, which turned into a tan just one day later. Got my farmer's tan for the summer.
One of the things I was hearing a lot was "Funny how you don't make your friends until this late in school". Which, really, is true. Come the end - almost too late - you find the people you like best and who like you too. It sucks, but...it's what happens.
Thursday was a lovely first day of freedom, though I also called it my first day of limbo. My version of limbo, however, is the fact that I haven't graduated high school yet but I'm done attending classes. So it's a waiting-in-limbo game.
Friday night was May Movie Sign Madness. I invited twelve people over, ten of who attended. There were freshmen Sarah and Canyon, sophomores Missy, Sophie, Cara, Andy, Marissa, and Shannon, junior Aaron, and fellow senior Ryu. Sarah and Canyon had not yet seen a full episode (both had seen random snippets and skits), most of them had only seen The Movie, Missy has seen random segments and shorts, and Ryu has come to Movie Sign so he's pretty seasoned.
Anyways, we kicked it off by watch The Movie and eating pizza, then segueing into The Final Sacrifice with popcorn. The kiddies were fine for the first half, but during the second half me and Ryu (and Sarah) had to keep yelling at them to shut up. 8P They were quiet for the end, though, and there was much love. Ryu suggested doing it every other week during the summer, which I wouldn't mind if people helped out with the food.
Saturday was a bumming around day. I can't even really remember what I did...oh...oh yeah, I popped Oblivion into the 360 again. Aaaand I had to start a new game, again. Ugh. So I'm hacking away at that, with my Wood Elf who has crazy-ass acrobatic skills (it's what I do). Then we had work. Work was interesting...we thought there weren't going to be a lot of people due to the holiday weekend, but we ended up busy. Well...busy for me. First bus kid was cut at 7:30, but that really shouldn't have happened. I left a little after 9, came home, chatted with Kastom a bit, then went to sleep.
Yesterday was more Oblivion and stuff. Man, I can't even remember what I did. The heck is wrong with me? Anyway, played Oblivion, watched TV, ate ribs for dinner, went out for ice cream, and made it back in time for Movie Sign. Terror from the Year 5000 was tedious, as are all of our movies. The second host segment had everyone poking fun at me for "jumping form Mike to Crow to Princess", and at the end when Crow is making it seem like he did it with Mike's old girlfriend, Arch was sending me frantic whispers going "WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!" Crow said "Dutch street" in the end and the worries were put to rest. XD Poor Arch, you have a lot to learn.
Today is more hanging out and playing video games. Tomorrow I have to wake up at normal school time for graduation rehearsal, followed by the senior breakfast. I think me and Lorenza are going to hang out for the day and then go out to our favorite sushi joint for dinner.
Friday is graduation, Saturday I have placement tests at NIU followed by graduation party hopping. Sunday I leave on vacation to Williamsburg, Virginia. Piers is coming along and I should be able to make Movie Sign for both Sundays (leave the 31st, come back the 7th) since we don't travel late into the night. The hotels we're staying at have free wi-fi so I'll be on in the evenings and the like.
You know what TV show I really like? Jon & Kate Plus 8. Don't ask. But the new season premieres tonight, and sometime during this season they have a crossover episode with Ace of Cakes. I was squeeing in bliss.
The senior picnic is today, which essentially equated today to a screw-off day. Just a bunch of idiotic seniors running around a park and picnicing it up.
Man...it's over, huh? Odd. Also, I feel the need to just totally binge and re-watch all of Azumanga Daioh in one shot until my eyes start bleeding. I've been meaning to pull another all-nighter...
Yesterday, I wrote a letter to all of my teachers, titling it my "To Every Teacher I Have Had" project. It was just a simple little thing, reviewing the tidbits of the subject areas and my random thoughts and reflections about the past and where I'm headed. Also, a chibi doodle I scanned in and put on the Word document.
I bought a watermelon for the picnic. It is very heavy. I hope my backpack (the one I brought to ACen) will hold up. Ahem.
In honor of...in honor of nothing, really, I present the first MST3K skit I memorized way back in August:
(I can count on one hand the number of host segments I have memorized. My brain can remember songs and one-liners, but entire two-to-five minute skits are hard.)
And one last note: Happy birfday bellpickle! :D Enjoy your last year of having the "-teen" suffix tacked onto your age.
Last night in Chat, before Movie Sign, a handful of us were diddling around and shooting the breeze before Kei brought up how she wished there was a "modern day MST3K" for the movie Cursed. Shinmaru and I were on the case, with Shin pointing her at RiffTrax and me bringing up iRiffs.
Kei got excited and, a half hour and one room later, a riffing group for theOtaku was born. (Three hours later, TC suggested we call ourselves the Rifftakus, and so far the name was garnered approval.)
In other words, it's like that thing I suggested in February. XD But now we have summer...!
We're looking at doing whatever we can get our hands on - movies, TV shows, anime - and just seeing where we go. And perhaps most importantly, it'll be free.
If anyone's still interested, drop a line and stuff. Now, on to my last B Day of school.
