Hello there, this is Katana, also known as Kat in some circles. I'm your friendly neighborhood twenty-two-year-old illustrator/writer whose sarcasm is second to none and harboring the ability to verbalize the parentheses in stories. I drink coffee and draw like an addict and am liable to get you into things that I like. Currently the wielder of a BFA in Illustration and a minor in English.

Questions? Comments? Death threats? Feel free to PM or message me in some iteration. I'm always around, you just don't know it.

The RL Harem

Remember that anime harem thing that was popular? I never did it because I can't keep track of everybody and I'd feel bad about forgetting them and it would take FOREVER. Then 'gome and I had a brainsync and decided...why not do REAL LIFE F...

Of cold days and controversies

Current temperature: -15
With wind chill: -35

School was called off today due to the cold, and THAT means I've got a five-day weekend~! XD

I was up until 1:40am last night, chatting around, fairly confident we'd get the day off. But because Murphy's Law is what it is, I decided to try and at least clock in a few hours of rest. That didn't go very well, as I was up at 4am and about as wide-awake as possible.

But much to my horror, the tab I had opened on the school website said NOTHING about having the day off. D8 Then I had a bunch of thoughts of how to try and ditch and, well, yeah. The next time I woke up was 6am, and the school page said "uh, it's kinda cold, so yeah". WOOH!

One of the things discovered last night was this page of t-shirts. Well actually, it was this one [Timber, I can't help but think of you], but nothing really really struck me as something I'd want. However, after some exploration, I found this and this, and, because I'm a Golden Sun/alchemy dork with Paypal...

Yaay. 8D

Remember, RiffTrax live-streaming tonight. And man, I want Spaghetti-Os. *wanders to the kitchen*

Near death on the open road

I went through three cars this morning going to school. >_O Mitsukuni had frozen windershield wiper blades. Then I drove my mom's car [2004 Camry] into the mound of snow along the edge of the driveway [it's a curved one and I couldn't see very well and yeah]. I ended up taking my dad's car to school [2008 Honda Civic], but holy God were the roads complete crap. Whatever corner I took, I would slide around. Even Route 47, which is ALWAYS clean, was terrible.

I even called Lorenza on the way and went, "This isn't a joke, right? We have school?"

That was the story of school - everyone really wondered why the hell it wasn't called off. A handful of us started going "student-elect snow day!" but, ahhh, yeah. Teachers didn't want to be there, students didn't want to be there...it was craptacular.

I canceled writer's club, and it turns out our sponsor had the same thought, so we were on sync there. And then every other activity was canceled. HMMM. Maybe school, MAYBE we should've - agh. *frustrated gesture*

Uh, on some good news...RiffTrax live tomorrow night. 8D Made a Post-It note post at the Watercooler. So check it out if you wanna...

A not-quite-rantish AP art rant

But before that: I've only seen one episode of Lovely Complex BUT I LURV IT YAY.

Anyways.

I'm in AP Drawing/Painting, but it's referred to AP Art. The other AP class is called AP 2D Studio Design, but that's referred to as AP Photography. The point of them both is to submit a portfolio to the college board, have 'em judge your stuff, and get a score on it. The goal is a 4 or a 5.

Since I do computer stuff, the two teachers have been teetering as to what to submit me as. Yesterday, we brought in old work to see if we could use any of it as breadth pieces [you submit 24 total slides: 12 in a concentration where you have a theme, and 12 in breadth, which shows off your mastery of the basics]. I was the last to go, 'cause I brought along my laptop and...well yeah, I'm not quite sure either. Anyways.

After lots of thinking, it's been decided that my portfolio is being submitted as a design one rather than a drawing/painting one. Also, my concentration has been switched up slightly - it's being broadened to "technology" rather than my literal interpretations of internet phrases. However, since your concentration is supposed to grow and change and all that, we had to take a look at my pieces and think of an order.

We're thinking - because the focus is elements of design rather than your mark - that it'll grow by adding more layers and more. text, as they'll morph from pictures into advertisements [since it's looking like this piece will be the ultimate culmination product, or very close to it].

I'm thinking of taking some old pieces - that I did traditionally - and redoing them on the computer. Luckily, I can tackle those in a day or two. And frankly...I'm kind of excited about it.

Of course, this kind of screws me over for class, since the teachers are basically telling me to abandon paper and just do everything on the computer. >o>

But if it lets me show off my talent more, I'll happily bring Piers to school every A Day like last semester...

WoooooOOOOH!

My fellow citizens of Illinois:

We are now without Blow Joe Blago.

WooOOOOOOOOOOH!

Also, I don't have to work tonight! So it's off to Applebees with the AP art gang! XD

Edit: Wait, hang on...The House has impeached him (114-1), which "sets up a trial in the Senate that could lead to the governor's removal". Buh.
