Fire Maidens of NIU

Yesterday, I woke up a bit before my alarm, so I got up and dressed and all that. I decided to explore for breakfast, so I went down to the Trident, which is a grab-and-go kind of place. Picked up a bagel and coffee before heading back. I learned that your key unlocks the doors from the stairwell. >_>

At 10, we gathered in our floor's lounge to go to convocation. On the way down the stairs, this girl made a weird squeak noise, and I pointed that out, and we got to talking...and another friend! Natasha is studying Time Arts, which is animation and stuff, and she likes anime and fantasy and talked about pixel art (I did a little spin) and oh yeah. It was great.

We ended up hanging out the whole day. Convocation was boring as hell, though the marching band rocked. We combated our way through the crowds at the club hall before managing to get out and walking the (roughly) half mile back to our dorm.

As we walked, we talked, and Natasha plays a bunch of instruments and went to a music camp here in July. I brought up my desire to learn nose flute.

"...Why?"
"Okay so, you know that movie I went to last night? There was a musical interlude, and these four guys were on stage - two of them with guitars, one with nothing, and one with a nose flute -"

And suddenly, this guy ahead of us whips around, points at me, and goes "Plan 9, right?"

My response? "OH MY GOD! *flail*"

That's how I met Mike, who is in Neptune North, a transfer student (so he's a junior), and...MSTie. We talked all the way back to the hall. His favorite episode is Pumaman, and I told him I had DVDs and we'd have to hang out and ohhh my gaaaawd I was so excited. XD

Natasha and I grabbed lunch at the all-you-can-eat place above the Trident, then went back to my room. About fifteen minutes later, we left to go to the music building for the art department meet-and-greet. Found some fellow high school peeps, but they're both commuters. I ended up drifting around and latching on to people's conversations, but at the end of it, I was in a circle with a very mixed group of people.

There was Christine, a junior studying art education and who lives in the apartments nearby. Esther is a sophomore who isn't quite sure what she wants to do in art, and - bellpickle, she looks just like you. She also hates having her picture taken. XD Then there was Mary, who is one of those going-back-to-school ladies and also studying visual communication. Then we had a guy...ugh, crap, his name...David? Dave? We just called him Sculpture Man, since that's his major. And we taaaaalked for like, an hour, and stayed later than the reception, just talking and joking and laughing and telling random stories. At the end, we handed cell phones around and punched in numbers.

Esther doesn't dorm, but she lives right in DeKalb so she can take the Huskie Bus to go home. The bus loop is right outside my dorm, so me, Natasha, and Esther headed back up and I invited her to come hang out with us. She was like "zomfg really?!" So we did, and they marveled at my art supplies and Esther squeed upon seeing Yotsuba&! on my shelf. Then the bus came, so she left, and Natasha and I split up so I could take a nap. XD

The Trident was the only food place open in Neptune on Friday, so we went there and grabbed sandwiches for an early dinner (it closes at 6). It was also raining, so we didn't want to go anywhere. X3; Went back to my room and bummed for a wee bit before my friend Marissa texted me. She and I ended up hanging out in my room for like, seven hours. At one point - after 9 - we went to get food and investigated a sushi and hibachi joint called Fushi Yami. We both ordered hibachi, and it was sooooo good. Came back to my room, talked more, then she left because it was after eleven and drizzling again.

Stayed up 'til roughly 1:30, then woke up a little before 9. I tested out Armando, my coffee pot, and he makes a mean cup of java. Good job buddy!

And now...here I am. The brunch has just opened in the all-you-can-eat, so I'm going to go get Natasha and check that out...
