Soooo...Intro to Vis Comm.
I really really really don't like the professor. What's shocking is that, unlike my experience, he is totally not a grad student. He's an old(er) guy and one of three vis comm professors. But since there's only one section of the intro class, he's the only one teaching it.
I believe I mentioned before that the man is very vague and quiet, but today we REALLY learned that he is also hard of hearing. And I mean like, epically hard of hearing. AND HE'S NOT THAT OLD okay okay.
The assignment due today was working with text some more. We were to make 20 boxes with 3 letters and then 20 more - I can't really explain the assignment without going on for five paragraphs. Anyways, I did it and, for the most part, like the stuff I made. Anyways, we hang them up, he goes around to talk about them, and when he comes to mine, he says "I don't think you considered the relationships of the letters." But unlike most everybody else, I said back to him, "I actually thought about the letters a great deal and how they worked with each other." He either ignored me or didn't hear (or both) and continued to basically trash my designs.
I rolled my eyes a lot (when he wasn't looking).
Another thing that irks me with him is that he'll get something wrong, we'll correct him, he says "oh" and fixes his mistake, but then goes right back to saying the wrong thing. It happens with names and it happened to me when he said a certain letter was a lowercase L. I said "It's actually an italic capital I". He says "Oh"...and still calls it a L. Why the hell do I even bother?
A while later, he's going around to each student and talking about the designs and such. He comes to my table and I was out of my seat when he initially came over, but I sat down right as he came over - slightly bad timing, y'know? He talks to the girl next to me, then the guy at our table, and then just moves on to the next group. I said, quite loudly, "Hey, you forgot me" as he was walking, but he either ignored me or didn't hear me (or both).
And this is where I lost it and mumbled, "Fuck you too" and proceeded to work on my own.
Call it being whiny and unprofessional, but it just really irked me. And his attitude and behavior and total vagueness have been bothering me since the first class. This is going to be a very long semester.
(Oh, and I call him Leif Ericson because his first name is Leif. ...But it's not pronounced like "leaf". I don't know either.)
