Your name and you

The main point of my kidnapping last weekend was to go to a "world's fair", which was very cool. Various countries have booths and stuff set up to show off the culture and cuisine of said nations, so that was fun.

India in particular had a whole room and was also doing henna tattoos. Me and my friends decided "WHY NOT" and got in line, me after deliberating because they'd fade in 7-10 days and I had to work within that time span. While waiting in line, we got on the subject of real tattoos and what, if any, we would get.

I'm not a big tattoo person. They look cool when they're done but then they fade and look kinda bleh and stuff of that sort. But I have figured that if I was going to get anything, it'd be the kanji symbol for "katana", done in the blues I have been using on myOtaku/World since way way back.

Lots of us have simple names that feel like names, especially after talking to people in Chat. And while I've known a lot of you for lengthy periods of time, I don't quite know why you use the names you do. Therefore, I am curious.

"Katana" came about in sixth grade, right after becoming friends with my idkbff Lorenza. We were young little anime fanatics who found out that each of us loved to draw and write, so it was a treat to roleplay with each other online and write stories. But as we became more involved in the internet, we needed names. She and I batted some around, and one day she proposed that I use Katana.

We have a website, Behind the Name, that we've used for name-raiding, and back in the day, they had an entry for Katana as a female's name. It meant what you think it meant, so I went with it. Later, when we joined the OtakuBoards and I needed a username, I just went with that.

For the record, I had no idea a certain Lady Katana existed before me.

I was on the OB a few months before myOtaku was made, but I had become very attached to the name and snatched it up wherever I could. I was happy to have it and began to think nothing of its origin. To me, it was just...my name.

It continues to be my name, and I've almost hit seven years of using it. I've taken to being called Kat as a nickname recently, mainly due to Chat and the fact that "Kat" can be swapped between here and my DeviantArt account without issue.

Also, I get to be called Katakana and Kata-tan, and who doesn't like that? XP

Oh, and the henna tattoo came out really cool.
