There are so many more things I could say about Chat, but at this point I’d be repeating and rambling, and I’ve already done the latter enough. So instead, I’ll leave with some things I have found useful and/or observed throughout Chat’s short yet long two years:
1.) Be nice, whether it’s dealing with someone who is irritating you or interacting with a newbie.
- Proper nurturing of a newbie can result in them becoming a staple of Chat and your new friend
2.) Correct spelling, capitalization, and punctuation go a long way.
- Use Firefox. It has spell-check.
3.) Avoid the seizure-inducing icons.
4.) Don’t do the PDA stuff, least not in the Lobby.
- It is perfectly acceptable to shoot/brick/cattle prod/punch/dropkick someone, though.
5.) Don’t say you’re bored.
6.) Don’t say it’s too quiet.
7.) Don’t say people are ignoring you.
8.) If you’re emo, expect this.
9.) Be wary of any links.
- Anything from Desbreko will involve sparkly moe anime. Anything from Kimmeh will involve shirtless men, most likely Asian or German.
10.) Walls of text aren’t cool.
- When copy-pasting from MS Word, remember that it does weird things and includes all those wonky format codes and can potentially turn a few lines into an aforementioned wall of text.
11.) If you’re under the age of 13, don’t admit that you’re under the age of 13.
- Especially to a mod.
12.) Asking for the password to a room isn’t likely to yield success.
- Mainly because a lot of us are mean like that.
13.) It’s not chat, it’s Chat.
