The case of the missing student has now been turned into a "death investigation".
Which is something I'm pretty sure we all knew was coming, but an end we were nonetheless hoping would not come.
My heart's in a weird place, not personally knowing her, but knowing her nonetheless. Not only was she a member of the art family that I hold near and dear, but someone I would've looked out for being an adviser. She was me last year, and now, that's over.
So I swear, if I hear any more words of ill will towards her or this case, I'm going to be punching people in the face.
My university seems to have suffered a lot in just two years, but not for a second do I think I am unsafe here. It's amazing the bond people can make when they are in situations such as ours. Part of the fight song for NIU is "forward, together forward", which became a motto after the February 14th shootings in 2008. Now we prove it again.
"Who's saying that?" It's hard to phrase exactly what people have been saying negatively about this situation that has me bothered. Basically, people have been saying that she was dumb for having gone to the woods and that she should've been more careful and variants of that.
Okay. I don't care. Seriously? You have to be that insensitive? However legitimate your safety tips are, I don't care. What happened is what happened and it is far from unusual. I don't want to hear you badmouthing her based on this, and to be as offensive as you are. Shut your mouth and have some respect.
