Anime Milwaukee: Doctor, elevators, and minivans

First time using post music, go!

The whole trip to go to AW started back in December, when Doug Walker announced he was going to go to it. I hesitated and did some research, then figured I could make the trip, so I called upon some of my freshmen friends - ones I knew would be the most willing to come - and we hammered out the plans over the course of winter break and the weeks we came back.

I had a hell of a time sleeping, though. Took me a while to actually fall asleep, then woke up around 3:15am thinking it was 6. Upon finally getting to that hour, I dozed around until 7, wherein I got up, gelled my hair, and was ready to go.

After procuring breakfast, we hit the road. There was Kristy as my wingman, and also dressed as Rory, with Katie and Trisha in the backseat. The roads were pretty quiet, but even moreso, the highway was pretty sparse. Tolls were expensive ($1.60 daaaamn) but upon hitting Wisconsin, we coasted on through.

Wisconsin is very pretty when it's sunny, but wow, was it empty. Anyway, after almost killing the occupants of my car by driving across three lanes of traffic in ten feet and briefly driving in the wrong lane of traffic, we hit the Hyatt without much further incident.

Bathroom breaks were in order, mostly so I could change fully into my 11th Doctor costume. Upon leaving, I RANDOMLY bumped into Schultzie and continued to wonder how in the world we keep bumping into each other in places at cons. I don't understand.

Registration was quick and painless, and soon after we went to the Q&A panel with Doug Walker...aka, the Nostalgia Critic. That was very fun, and I'm going to be in a future video (along with the whole rest of the audience), so yes, I will be whoring that out when it appears. :V

After that was dealer's hall roaming, which didn't result in much from me since...eh, it was pretty small, mostly DVDs and mangas to buy. Some plushies and accessories, but not a lot. I did nab Yotsuba&! volume 9 and five buttons from a booth, so not all was lost.

And then there was lunch!

Coming back from lunch, we did some more shopping, explored the video game place (YOU HAD TO PAY WTF) and goofed off. Kristy and I decided to go on an adventure in photo taking, riding the elevators and hoping Katie could get shots, but to no avail. Then the elevators wouldn't come back to the 18th floor, so we ended up running down 17 flights of stairs to get back down. I started shouting out Doctor actors when I could.

Come the late afternoon, we went to a panel called The Pokemon Survival Guide. It started off as a fun little diddy about, well, how to survive in the Pokemon world if you suddenly vworped there, but it devolved into silly (okay) and repetitive (not okay) questions.

The maid/butler cafe was a total bust, since it was all filled, the things were pricey, and the butlers were average-looking. ...Well fine, the one that came by and asked if there was a table for 2 was pretty cute. But yeah, we decided we'd fare better at a Wendy's.

...Which didn't happen. We took more photos at the parking garage, managed to wiggle out of Milwaukee, and found a McDonalds to eat at. ...Where we took MORE photos! That was fun.

The ride back was....eventful. I mean, it went fine, we talked about going on camping trips and such, but at one point, I was being tailed by some guy in a minivan. It was only a two-lane highway, so I moved to the right to let the dude pass. ...Except he didn't. After about five minutes, he did, but I was so irritated that I flicked off the back of the head of his passenger.

So let's play dirty.

I didn't ride him (I don't like to do such things at 75 mph), but I let him know I wasn't too happy. Then he lane changed and I sped up slowly to gradually progress forward.

And then the Party Boy music came on.

With three members of my car dancing and passing by this guy in the minivan, I suppose he was irritated, 'cause he reportedly flicked off Kristy. After I got enough ahead, he went back behind me, speeding all away. Trisha then pointed out a car up ahead a bit, saying that if I ran parallel to it, he couldn't pass us.

HAHAHAHA BRILLIANT

After riding parallel for a few minutes, I sped up to get past the guy on the right and we watched as the minivan guy passed him as well, once again lane changed, and stalk us a bit on the side. Still, the residents of my car are dancing, until the guy finally exited and all was well.

The GPS took us on the route of country roads, which was an experience. No snares or anything, and we somehow ended up back in DeKalb, blowing my mind in the process.

I've got some pictures up on my DeviantArt and all on my Facebook, if you wanna check them out. If not, always remember that Bulbasaur is both a meat and a vegetable.
