Last night was the fifth RiffTrax Live event, and of course I went. And of course, the person I made plans with ditched out on me, so like a loser, I went by myself.
Anywho, the movie this time around was a fantasy flick from the 1960s called Jack the Giant Killer. It's one of those that is cheesy by today's standards but was probably a decent film back in the day. Clearly a lot of effort was put into the sets and costumes, so I can't knock them for that. But oh God, there was claymation. Claymation, for those who don't know (which is all of you), creeps me out.
The theater I went to was packed. It was in a pretty normal-sized one, maybe a bit small, but I got there fifteen minutes early and managed to get a good spot. Pretty much everyone in the upper-half was elbow to elbow, though. I sat next to a dad and his two young daughters, the unfortunate kids having everything fly over their heads. (After the movie, the dad asked them what they thought, with one of them going "That was an awful movie!" and him responding "But that's the point, sweetie"). I'm pretty sure what caused this is that the theater I went to for the first three RT Lives didn't do it this time around, forcing everyone in the area over to this one.
There was also a short. "What Is Nothing". Let's just not talk about it.
In the end, good time. I enjoyed myself, had a solid two hours of laughing, and drove home with my car blasting Owl City and "Sigh No More". Overall a solid night out.
Today and tomorrow are dedicated to packing and procrastinating on packing. Saturday I wake up at the crack of dawn (8am) to move out and move in. Blargh.
