Remember, to let her into your own heart...

Senior night was a bust, to say the least. It was raining - okay, no big deal. Oh snap, lightning. Damn. Lightning strikes delayed the game to not start until 8:30. Struyk [director] was like "Um, yeah, field's muddy and will be worse after those meatbags wrestle around..." Plus it was still raining, and water + instruments = not good things.

Anyways, the presentations. Well, um...first let-down of the night. We got out flowers, and then he made a speech about us as a group...and that was it. I was on the end and was the first to get my corsage. "Ginger!" he said. "Oboe player and cymbal for...how many years?" "Two." "Two! And bass drum for two." Then he called up the next person [Jazz], and we both went "S-Struyk!"
I mean, maybe it sounds selfish, but it's like...for three years, I was looking forward to what he would say of me and just me, and he decides to...well, cop-out and not do it. Me and Jazz were pretty bummed. :

Then we had hug-a-senior, a grand ol' band tradition. I got so many. @_@ And I love giving hugs and getting hugs, so it was fun. [No 'gome, I didn't give any death-hugs.] Phil waited until all but one [my 'little sister' Chelsea] had done their thing. Then he hugged me and lifted me off the ground. o_o

With everybody from the game inside the gym, we did some pep band-esque stuff. I got really into it...played my heart out on "Get It On" and just got really into it...I mean, it was shaping up to be a night where we wouldn't be on the field, so we had to give it our all in the gym.

About 6:30, seniors were called down to the commons to line up with their parents for the whole 'presenting' part of senior night. I called my dad - "Oh, we're at home." I was furious, since they said they'd be at the game at 6:30...ugh...So there I stood in the commons, a corsage for my mom in hand, ready to cry. And I did a little bit. It was so down to the wire that they showed up when we were in the gym, ready to start. Just that whole frustration and stuff.
Anyways, called my name and my parents, walked across the gym floor...my band people cheered. Oh, I love band. I'm going to miss it so much. [Come the next group, the cheerleaders, we fell dead silent. XD]

Played some more music, then told to chill. I hung out with my group of underclassmen...so that was Sarah, Shannon, Phil, Michelle, Chelsea, Natasha, Missy, and Andy. Andy had previously learned of my crush on "the mellophone boy" and kept telling me to 'subtly wink' if he ever passed me. Unfortunately, he spoke of this when Phil was apart of the trio in conversation. In otherwords, me, Andy, and Phil were talking when he brought this up. I kept sending the "I'm going to kill you in your sleep boy" message, though I don't think it got through. Shannon brought up how she had watched some MST shorts and clips so me and her and Phil geeked while I gave her my approval and recommendations.

Turns out there was a big cake in the band room, so we went in to get some. Got my slice and skewered the first piece before looking up at Phil and asking if he wanted any. He said he did, so I held up my fork and he ate it off of that. x//x Ate and talked, and, come the last piece, I asked if he wanted it, so I fed it to him again. x////x

A handful of us decided we wanted to go outside and go puddle hopping. So with the hopes of not having to go out for band [we had about twenty minutes to go before it was called], me, Natasha, Sarah, and Phil went outside and splashed around. Down by the auditorium, there's a bit of a dip in the grass/sidewalk, making mondo puddles whenever there's rain. We ran through that and jumped it in as a group and yeah. Went inside to dry off a little before going "LET'S DO IT AGAIN!" and...doing it again. This time, we had Shannon with us, and basically did the same things again. A group of seniors came out but wouldn't participate, to which quiet Sarah shouted "YOU GUYS SUCK!" It was friggin' amazing. And I was deemed "coolest senior" because of it. XD

Game was called - we could go home. I got a small group together to go to Oberweis [Missy, Phil, Chelsea (with her senior boyfriend Brandom following us, stranger romances indeed), with Natasha and Sarah in parent-drive vehicle). In my car were Missy, Phil, and Chelsea; good times were had. Missy demanded we listen to "Patrick Swayze Christmas", which we did while Chelsea was on the phone with Brandon to make sure he didn't get lost.

"Ginger, what are we listening to?"
"Patrick Swayze Christmas."
"She says Patrick Swayze Christmas. ...Brandon says you're weird."
"Tell him to bite me."
"She says 'bite me'."

Since I have a tapedeck and one of those connector thingies, Phil whipped out his iPod and we listened to Avenue Q until our arrival. Got inside, ordered food. Phil got this Halloween thing called Bug Guts, and when I inquired what it was like, he got a spoonful and fed it to me. x///////////x

They have chess tables set up, so we all gathered 'round and watched as Missy and Phil had an epic match filled with insults and rage and secret lurv and all that. I couldn't finish my triple chocolate cake ala mode [8D;], so Missy and Phil attacked it. Bought a bottled soda, which quickly became the communal water bottle and such.

The next thing I knew, a note was being passed around. It was labeled "Phillip" and was from his ex-girlfriend. Oh shit was my basic thought. I had no idea, and I felt like...kinda bad...Well, the girl had one of those self-depreciating mentalities, which we all scoffed at and were annoyed by. I know the girl too, she's apart of the underclass group. It was kinda awkward to hear the stories and things. Pro tip: If you're going to write a note, don't decapitate yourself in the process.

Chess match switched to Sarah and Natasha, so chair maneuvering was in order. Phil sat on the side with two chairs, and I wanted to let Brandon sit next to Chelsea rather than, like, stand by her, so I moved over to the chair next to Phil. He had his arm propped on my chair, and it was close enough where I just...leaned over and rested my head on his shoulder. I had also decided to spike my hair again, so that was pressed against his face. XD;

Here's the thing, though. He rested his head on mine.

"...Oh err, does my hair bother you? 'cause it's spiked and all."
"Nah, it's fine. Smells good, actually."
"Ooh, thanks. ...You smell good."
"I do?"
"Yeah. What are you wearing?"
"Uh...clothes?"

And we just sat like that, watching the chess match and talking and joking. Natasha took notice and was like "Oh, Phil? Taking after the older girls now, huh?" He didn't answer, but we both laughed. Missy kept giving me these knowing glances and holding back giggles while saying "Oh Mike, hold meee!" [BACKSTORY: Her crush, Ryu, looks kinda like Joel. Her favorite 'bot is Gypsy. In "Wild Rebels", Joel comforts a depressed Gypsy in one host segment by serenading to her. Our favorite line is when she says 'Oh Joel, hold meee!'. When we realized this context at lunch, I started screaming at her and she turned beet red. Ryu's codename is now Joel. When I revealed my crush on Phil, she codenamed him Mike.]

It was really...odd. But I liked it. We just sat there, warm and comfortable. We still continued being active in conversation, but just like...that. I randomly broke out in singing "Hey Jude", and EVERYBODY knew it so we all sang. :D

Had to get the kiddies home, so Missy, Sarah, Phil, and Chelsea piled into my car and I drove them home. Phil was the first to be dropped off, and once he was, I was teased immensly - but, you know, in a good way. Missy applauded me on how "far" I got. Then I admitted: "...Guys, that's the most flirting I've ever done in my life."

Now I wait until tomorrow, when we have the Sycamore Pumpkin Fest parade.
