Apparently a handful of people have assumed I'm racist based on a comment I made on this video:
And this was my original comment:
"Since I'm black and I'll never be pale, I don't really worry about it. Personally, I think a tanner complexion is likely healthier, since you get more vitamin D from the sun, which also helps absorption of calcium. I don't really care too much for what skin tone a person has, but I probably would worry about someone who was so pale you could see their veins like they were made of rice paper... =I That can't be very healthy...
And yes, Carmen you look just fine as you are =3"
Now I can see why the first sentence might be misunderstood and I could have phrased it better, but how am I "anti-white" or "picking on Asian races" because of this statement? My friend told me they probably didn't read the whole comment. Either way, I don't think the people who've been offended by it were trolling. I think they were genuinely hurt because they found different meaning in my statement than what I intended. Which is why I try to calmly explain that it was a misunderstanding.
Still, things like this are making me afraid to open my email when it says "Youtube Service." I generally don't like conflict and usually stay under the radar when it comes to things. I rarely comment on youtube vids and this isn't particularly welcoming me into it.
I always think, when I want to lose faith in humanity, read some youtube comments. Because there's no possible way I'd want to feel good about the world, right? Now there are some genuinely useful and kind comments on youtube, yes indeed. However it's the trollers and the people who don't take time to understand that make it a little harder. And then there are just people who genuinely disagree and start losing their patience with one another, so it becomes a profanity battle...
I'm afraid of ruining my youtube reputation because I'm working on something for my channel. But despite being afraid of having my image sullied, I'm trying to face it head-on, even though I shake when I open those emails...
I'm no racist. I rarely mean harm when I comment on videos. I have a short temper sure, but I don't go out of my way to hurt people. I just don't like making enemies due to misunderstandings if I can help it. If you're going to be my enemy, hate me for something I genuinely do wrong like if I kicked your puppy down the street or forced your sister to strip down in front of hungry prisoners... I wouldn't do those things either, but that's certainly a better reason to hate on me than what I commented =(
