So I was bored and screwing around on the site a few minutes ago and decided to look forlornly at the chat page in longing. Since I had nothing better to do, I randomly starting Apple+clicking things and lo and behold, I managed to finangle a way into Chat.
Pressing random buttons: It works for more than just Dynasty Warriors!
While I was walking downtown today, I happened to look at one of the trees planted along the street. On said tree was a Missing poster. Curious, I ambled up and looked it over.
It was a missing child poster for Kevin McCallister from Home Alone.
I am not making this up.
We live in a very strange world.
So, I was doing some seiyuu searching over at ANN, when I came across an article that was posted Friday that basically said that Cartoon Network has scrapped the Toonami block after an 11-year run.
I are shocked at this.
This may be largely because Toonami is what actually got me into anime in the first place (I fell in love with Sailor Moon and Mobile Suit Gundam Wing through Toonami), but I honestly never thought they would actually get rid of it. According to the article in question, the only actual anime that has been running in the block for some time has been Naruto, which is also disheartening (I didn't even know about that, since I haven't had cable access in a very long time).
It's just...really depressing, I guess. The end of an era. I remember a time when Toonami showed almost nothing BUT anime in their time slot. Hell, I even remember when there was a Midnight Run. Can I get a New Year's Evil with an all-night Dec. 31 marathon of the Garlic Jr. Saga from DBZ? Sheesh.
And Tom and Sara! What about them?! For computer-generated "hosts", they were actually interesting. And they had their own string of games on Toonami.com. They were awesome. (Though don't get me started about Steve Blum. I know he was Tom's voice, but... I just don't even want to go there. All I'll say is that my friends and I have concluded that one day, Steve Blum will pop out of a box of Pop-Tarts and go into a monologue about said Pop-Tarts while you eat.)
But really, I suppose I'm just having trouble getting over the fact that such a block that's probably been a part of a large number of anime fans getting their feet wet in the industry is being left by the wayside. Just look at what Toonami has shown the masses, either for the first time, or as a continuation from another channel:
Voltron, Robotech, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball, Ronin Warriors, G-Force: Guardians of Space, Blue Submarine No. 6, Tenchi Muyo!, Tenchi in Tokyo, Tenchi Universe, Cardcaptors, Zoids, .hack//SIGN, Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, The Big O, Outlaw Star, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Cyborg 009, Duel Masters, Astro Boy, Mobile Suit Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, Kidou Butoden G Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam 08th MS Team, Rave Master, Zatch Bell, One Piece, Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo, Pokémon, MÄR, The Prince of Tennis, Megaman Star Force, Bakugan Battle Brawlers, and Blue Dragon.
That's 35 series, folks. Thirty-five. Do you know how many hours of anime that is? A lot, let me tell you.
I know that the torch hath essentially been passed to [adult swim], but... It just seems like a lot of what got me into the industry in the first place is disappearing. First FOXKids, then Kids' WB and now Toonami... It's sad.
Is this another supposed sign of decline? I don't know. But I do know that it's a fairly dark day for at least one anime fan in Ohio. :<

See you in that over-sized broadcasting spaceship in the sky, Tom and Sara.
Right. So.
I finally have electricity back on at my house after five days of nothingness. I realize that's nothing compared to those that are without power for weeks (or even months) at a time after a hurricane or some other natural disaster, but I must admit, it is rather difficult to be without power for any given length of time, especially when you don't know when that power is going to return.
Funny story about that, too. Apparently, we were supposed to have power the day after it got knocked out, since the city electricians were in the area making repairs. Why didn't we? It seems that our landlady never called in the fact that we were out of power to the electric company and then proceeded to go on vacation.
Needless to say, many people who lost all their food (and have many children) were very upset to find that out.
But things are all A-Okay now. So yay for that.
In other news...
All right. For those of you that have jumped on this whole crazy "Twilight" bandwagon, I've never read any of the books.
*waits for gasps to stop*
Right. But! I have recently acquired a copy of the first book to read for myself.
Will it be as good as everyone is raving? I have no idea. I'm really just wanting to see why everyone's gone so freaking crazy over this stuff. I personally have my own ideas of how the occult world works; I've been helping a friend of mine with her own occult line for more than a few months now (before we even knew of this "Twilight"). So, I have a strong feeling that's it's not going to mesh with what I imagine it to be. However, said friend has read the first book and said it wasn't that bad. Will I have the same thoughts? I have no idea. But I'll give it a shot. I'll tell you how it works out.
That's all for now.
Right, so we've had our power knocked out due to a windstorm that was a result of an offshoot of Hurricane Ike. And by "we" I mean my entire city. Not to mention several other cities in Ohio. And officials are saying it may be days before power is restored.
I now have so much more sympathy and respect for those people who have the guts to actually live where they get this stuff before it dissipates into a simple windstorm.
(Also, thank you, everyone, for the birthday wishes. It is very much appreciated. You all rock. :3)
