I honestly don't understand why Murphy's Law keeps hitting my square in the stomach when it comes to computers.

I'm running an old clamshell iBook (Mac; and not of my own choice) and the modem has decided to get cantankerous on me. So now I have to get hold of an external modem somehow. I've managed to find a couple of USB modems on Amazon and another through Googling around, but they all run about $50.
