A Note On General Chat Manners and Behavior

Chat is supposed to be a lot of fun. We've made a lot of upgrades to it ever since it launched to make it that way, including adding colored text and making it so that anyone can now make a private room all on their own.

Some people, though, take the fun atmosphere a little too far and lose the idea of general manners and acceptable behavior. While these aren't grievous, terrible things, they present something of a nuisance that has been pestering members for a bit.

First thing, please do not ask Operators to use their Operator functions to do you a favor. The tools provided are for handling behavioral situations in Chat. They are not there for fun and mirth.

Second, please don't ask Operators to pass messages along for you. We have a (recently updated) Private Messaging system for a reason. If you have to tell a friend something, use it. In the event that you need the message to get to them immediately, use an IM client. It's not our, or really, any member's responsibility to pass on a message for you. You can do it yourself and we have provided a service for such a purpose.

In a similar vein, do not ask Operators to go inside a passworded room specifically for the purpose of asking for the password. Not only would doing so be an abuse of Moderator power if they were actually capable of doing it (which they are not; only Administrators can bypass passwords), but it's exceptionally rude.

Again, these are small things, but they are prevalent enough to mention. No Mod likes having to play the authority card: we're there to have fun just like you are. However, things like this bring down the fun level and start to undermine (though only slightly) what Operators are there for, above being there to socialize and what-have-you.

Please keep this in mind and keep having fun in the Chatroom.

Best,
Kei
