Rei and the stupid news

"Ahh!..I think I’ll go nuts!!"
It’s been two days already since I first heard the news and people are still talking about it. Words like murderer, hostage, death and blood seemed to be on everyone’s tip of the tongue. If birds were to speak they would probably say the same things. Fortunately that’s not the case.
At that time I didn’t even pay that much attention. Returning from school like always, having my dinner while watching the news… Even the news looked ordinary; except for the one where that well known Japanese murderer, Natsuhiko Takamura , died in front of the other people around him, right after he had been declared “not guilty” (although even a 10 years old kid could see that person was a killer). It was pretty odd to see someone die in front of the cameras, on TV, but the fact that he suddenly started to bleed to death, and before that he even took a hostage, having been declared innocent…now that is really strange. Anyway, I decided not to pay too much attention and , in the end, the bastard was a criminal, so I thought it serves him right. Surprisingly, on the next days I found out that the others were thinking exactly the same thing, and they weren’t even trying to hide it. As a result, wherever you turned you would hear about that incident, including at school. That’s why I decided to skip classes and go play some basketball.
J-chan said she’ll be here in about 10 minutes, so I can finish my sandwich until then.
Actually, her real name is J.J., although I can’t imagine how that can be a name. And she’s very popular in school due to the simple fact that her dad is the founder of this school. Chi!.. I really hate famous ignorant people. But with her, the story is different, because she didn’t seem to be that kind of person. I first met her at the train station, while she was clumsily trying to use the train ticket. I remember laughing at that scene and thinking “yeah…it seems popularity or having a car and a driver isn’t everything..”. But I helped her with that. I even walked her home, because she seemed so disorientated (and because my home was nearby) and she said a lot of “thank you”s for that. We talked about different things on the way and we found out that we have many things in common. By the end of the road I had completely changed my mind about her, and after that we became good schoolmates, especially regarding sports…
"Hey, sorry I’m late!" said J-chan coming closer.
"Ah, don’t worry.. I’ve just finished my sandwich. So let’s play!"

"So, J-chan, what do you think?"
"What do I think about what?"
"You know…The Murderer, the blood, the death…"
"Murderer…blood…"
"Yes, haven’t you watched the news?"
"No…"
"NO?? Well then, haven’t you heard the other people’s conversations, the radio stations, the newspapers… It’s everywhere!" I exploded, throwing the ball over the basketball panel.
"OK..calm down.."
"Ah..sorry.. It’s just that people are so obsessed about this stupid incident and.. I can’t believe that there’s actually someone who doesn’t know what’s going on."
"Yeah..kind of.."
"Although now I’m not sure if that‘s normal or not. People started acting crazy, and more.. they’re inventing all kinds of stories related to his death, all kinds of diseases that the guy could have had, trying to find a cause for it. They even invented a story about some kind of God of Justice named KIRA who punished his crimes like that.."
"KIRA?"
"Yeah.. How stupid.."
"Don’t you believe in that story?" J-chan asked me.
"In what? In an almighty God of Justice who took his magic wand and made Takamura’s blood pour out through everywhere until he died, and then everybody else lived happily ever after?"
"Don’t you believe in God?"
"It’s not that I don’t believe in God, it’s just that I don’t believe that God would act exactly like that. It looks more like the Devil to me."
"Maybe he’s a different kind of God. Maybe he’s the kind of God who…"
"..who what? Likes justice? I’m sorry but I can’t possibly see the justice in that sort of act.. it looked more like a murder to me than like God’s doing.’
"I see…so you don’t believe in this KIRA story…"
"No.. I don’t believe in the Tooth Fairy.. But I do believe in my watch who says that if I don’t hurry I won’t make it in time for my guitar lessons. Sorry, I have to go now."
"Ah, no problem. I have some things to do too so.."
"Well, see you later then, J-chan!"
"Later!"
That day I couldn’t fully concentrate on my lessons. In my mind there were confusing thoughts about Gods, criminals and justice.
