Sister: Part II

January 28,2023 (still)

"Sis," I said unnerved. "I....was so afraid I was going to wake up and have you gone....Please....Please stay home from work today....I ...I feel sick...."

Kaori didn't move from where she sat on my bed. I brought my knees up close to me and took several deep breaths.

"I think something bad is going to happen today...Sis please stay home....please..." I said feeling the shakiness in my own voice.Waves of terror were still running over me.

"Remu, Remu, Rem look at me," Sis said carefully. I brought my head up and looked at her. "It's going to be ok....calm down...I can't stay home from work all day, but I will call and tell them I'm coming in late ok?"

"Ok...." I said quickly.

As the cellphone on my desk vibrated, I jumped. Realizing what it was, I tried to answer the phone, but I was shaking, and finally Kaori took the phone and answered it.

"Hello?" she asked and waited a few seconds. "Sorry Mizawa-chan. Remu is sick today. No she can't come to the mall. Yes I know it's a Saturday and that is what normal people do, but Remu is sick today......................no don't worry Mizawa........yes I'm staying home for part of the day..........what is that?...........oh....no don't bring that........she'll be fine.........no I did not give her liquor. What kind of sister do you take me for?......oh Mizawa....anyways....yes you can come over in the afternoon.....no not any earlier than twelve.....uh-hu.....yes....ok bye Mizawa-chan."

As she hung up the phone, I began trying to calm down.

"Mizawa is worried about you," Kaori smiled. "You have a pretty strong friend...."

"Sis...." I said quietly. "Don't go out today....I can feel something bad....something bad....."

It was a sense. I could feel it with every fiber of my being....something bad was going to happen. After about an hour, Kaori set me down in the kitchen and was handing me a bowl of cereal and a spoon.

"Let's try and get some cartoons on," Sis said turning on the T.V. It was already stationed on the news. A reported was nearly yelling into his mic that fifty of the world's major criminals were dead and that Kira had returned. My eyes and ears darted at the T.V. Kaori went to change it.

"No stop," I said quickly. "Kira....."

Kaori looked at me. "What?" she asked.

"Kira has returned?" I asked.

"You don't remember Kira?" Kaori asked. "The one who killed all the criminals ten years ago?"

"I remember.....but....he's suddenly just.....returned?" I asked.

"I guess," Kaori answered.

"How long has this been on?" I asked.

"It's been the same thing since four this morning," Kaori said calmly. "They keep saying that they'll post a list of names of the dead up when the information is released from the police...."

"Kira has returned..." I quoted the T.V. "No way......Kira has been dead for....a long time.....He's back....Sis do you think he'll kill...." I stopped myself quickly. Kaori already knew what I was going to say.

"That man," she started. "I hope he is one of the ones....but only fifty in the world, Rem. Only fifty in the world were killed....."

"Ya," I answered feeling worse about even thinking of killing. "I hope the police restore order soon...."

Kaori gave me a strange look, so I darted my eyes to my cereal. Raisin Bran.....XPPPPP I pushed the bowl away.

"Why don't I make some doughnuts or something?" I asked.

Kaori looked over at me.

"Sweet fanatic," she grinned.

"Am not," I answered. "Anyways, let me see what we have....."

I went through the pantry and the cupboards and started up some cinnamon rolls. After I had them in the oven and cooking, I turned back to Kaori. She was sitting at the breakfast table now eating some of the Raisn Bran I had abandoned.

"Sis why are you so calm?" I asked.

"Hu?" Kaori asked.

"Kira has returned and your office deals with criminals....and...."

"You're the one that wanted me to stay home," Kaori answered. "I would rush off to the office....but I know you don't feel well....."

I felt my heart lurch. I walked over to Sis and gave her a hug.

"Thanks," I said hugging her more.

After noon, Kaori went to work, and I started doing homework. Mi-chan came over for a bit, and we went to the tennis courts together. Mizawa said that there were two new British boys playing, and she wanted to impress them with her grace with the tennis racket.

"Mizawa you have no grace with a tennis racket," I answered. "The last time you held one, it somehow ended up stuck in the fence."

Mizawa just laughed.

"Well they are cute boys," she answered.

I smacked my forehead, but we both went. And sure enough there were the two boys......well a man and a boy. The man looked Japanese, but the boy was definitely something else....Irish maybe? I could be wrong.

As we watched them play, I wanted to start my own game. As I hit the ball to Mizawa, she seemed to cringe from it. Epic fail..... The boys seemed to stop and watch us. Finally I got bored of the repetitive lack of sport and looked over at them. The man tilted his head a bit.

"What?" I asked. "Want to play a game?"

The man nodded. The boy was staring at Mizawa. She turned bright red and started walking over to him. I walked over to the other court ball in hand. I threw it up and smacked it across the court. The man swiftly refuted it. Now this was a challenge.... I brought full force out and smacked a twister at him. He simply sent it crashing back at me with more force. I continued to smack it back, and after an hour the score was tied up. In the end, we both decided on a tie.

"You're *huf* not bad," I laughed.

"Nor you," the man answered. "I'm Nishoza Kurogara by the way. Everyone around here calls me Jet. Your friend seems to be flirting with my partner...."

"Nice to meet a fellow tennis player," I answered. "And ya....Mi-chan is...kinda like that....partner?"

"He works in the same office as me. We're detectives," he answered.

"Ah," I answered.

"She can't be fore than....oh I don't know...18?" Jet asked pointing in the general direction of Mizawa.

"Ya she's 18," I answered.

"Well.....Neil is 28....and that could be considered...." he started.

I felt my jaw drop a bit. "And how old are you?" I asked.

"26," he answered. I looked at him stunned. I would have grabbed him by the arm and toted him home if I knew Kaori was still there. Someone for he when I go off to college.... I thought to myself. He caught me staring at him a moment.

"Anyways, thanks for the game," he started. "I have to get to work now. Neil!" he yelled over.

The Irish guy, Neil, looked up and nodded.

"Do you come to the courts often?" I asked as he walked away.

"Mostly on Saturday," he answered. "Planning to have more games?"

"You're more fun to play against than Mizawa," I laughed.

"Heh Later," he said finally closing the gate after he and Neil were out.

Mizawa looked at me somewhat heartbrokenly.

"He's 28," she said sadly.

"Didn't look that old," I answered.

"And that's the problem with cute men," Mizawa sighed.

We took the train back to my house and hung around the house the rest of the day.
