I sat down at my desk and looked at Neil who was sitting in the chair parallel with the desk. He was leaned all the way back in his chair with his eyes closed. We had just finished another case, and both of us were happy to have the money in our pockets. It had been weeks since we had a decent meal.
"Jet," Neil said with his eyes still closed. "So where are we going to go out to eat since we have money now?"
"Anywhere sounds good," I answered. "Even a Pizza Hut."
"Even a Pizza hut? Dude you're becoming to American sounding heh," Neil laughed.
"I blame you," I answered. Neil just laughed back.
"Anyways why don't we catch a movie and wait for a few chicks out at the theater and then....."
"Why don't we go to the tennis courts, play a few games, and then go to the Pizza Hut near by?" I asked.
"Awww Jet you're a fun killer," Neil complained.
"Sorry man," I answered back. "I'm just not in the mood."
The last case had left me in a rather fowl mood. In the end a lady ended up shooting her husband, child, and finally herself. It had left a pit in my stomach that I just couldn't get rid of.
"Another one of your 'moods'? Fine we'll go and play a few games. Maybe some cute chicks will be there heh," Neil laughed.
"You're bad," I answered laughing a bit. "You look and act like a seven-teen year old and yet you're older than me."
"Ah come on Jet," Neil complained. "I have to have some fun in my life, or I'll go insane like that gal in our last case."
I cringed a bit, and Neil let up on it.
"Anyways what are we waiting for? Let's go if we're going to go."
We rode the train to the tennis courts. Where a group of girls were practicing or so it seemed anyways. I played a few rounds with Neil until the group left. After about an hour, two girls entered the tennis courts. One had neon-green hair and the other had neon-pink. I had to force myself not to stare.
Both Neil and I stopped to watch their game. It appeared that the girl with green hair was trying to teach the girl with pink hair how to play tennis and was failing at it miserably. Finally the girl with green hair caught Neil and I watching.
"What?" she asked. "Want to play a game?"
I gave a nod. This would be interesting. At least.....I hoped....As she started the set, I soon found good competition. Even better than Neil's western style of playing. After a while it became apparent that neither of us was going to lose, so we both decided on a tie.
"You're *huf* not bad," the green haired girl laughed.
"Nor you," I answered. It was then that I realized that we had just played a game and neither of us knew the other. Awkward...... "I'm Nishoza Kurogara by the way. Everyone around here calls me Jet," I started. I turned my head a bit and caught Neil and the girl with pink hair talking. "Your friend seems to be flirting with my partner...."
"Nice to meet a fellow tennis player," the girl answered. I waited for her to give her name, but she didn't. "And ya....Mi-chan is...kinda like that....partner?"
"He works in the same office as me. We're detectives," I answered.
"Ah," she answered.
"She can't be fore than....oh I don't know...18?" I started.
"Ya she's 18," the girl answered.
"Well.....Neil is 28....and that could be considered...." I started.
"And how old are you?" the girl asked.
"26," I answered. The girl gave me the most awkward look and made me want to avert my eyes at all costs. I wanted to get away from the stare so much that I forgot about asking for her name.
"Anyways, thanks for the game," I started. "I have to get to work now. Neil!"
Neil looked over and gave me a nod.
"Do you come to the courts often?" the green haired girl asked as I started walking away.
"Mostly on Saturday," I answered quickly. "Planning to have more games?"
"You're more fun to play against than Mizawa," the girl laughed.
"Heh Later," I said finally closing the gate after Neil and myself were out.
Once I was out of the courts, I sighed a bit.
"They're pretty cute girls," Neil laughed. I elbowed him hard in the ribs.
"Did you even get the girl's names?" I asked.
"The girl I talked to said her name was Mizawa and that the girl you were having the intense racket stand off with...heh.....ya her name is Rem according to Mizawa," Neil laughed.
" 'racket stand of'?" I asked.
"Heh that was what it was Jet," he answered. "You can't deny that you were getting a little too into it."
"I just hate losing," I answered. "You know that."
"Heh ya I know man, I know," Neil answered. "So anyways why don't we get some pizza or something?"
"Ya," I answered.
