Turn my what on? :X

I listened to that Souljah Boy song "Turn my Swagg On" and I just had a thought...

When did Hip-Hop/Rap music become so anthemic? I guess my old man slip is showing. I remember Hip-Hop when it was all about what was being said and not repeating the same basic beats over and over. The best rappers in my mind were Run-DMC. They could change tempo, they were masters of meter and even rhyming some of the most difficult words in the language. It was seldom that their music was anthemic and even then, it was the radio hits that were more-so than the other songs.

If you want a good example of good Hip-Hop, listen to "Sucka MC's" by Run-DMC.

I took a trip to San Diego for Memorial day. We went to watch a baseball game, but ended up doing soooo much more. We went to the beach, hung out at the bay, shopped at the designer fashion malls, ate lunch with my cousin (who was also visiting the city too, conincidentally) and just had a great time. It was a very relaxing weekend.

I need more weekends like that.
