Today is October 6, 2009, which marks the 35th Anniversary of a Sci-Fi legend that forever refined the meaning of Anime, inspiring lots of viewers all over the world (young and old) to treat and love animation as a medium of its own right. A legend that gave birth to the Anime sub-genre known as "Space Adventure Roman" (which describes dramatic Anime about epic adventures and/or battles in outer space). A legend whose popularity in North America during the late 1970s led to in the extreme increase in the amount of plot-driven Anime T.V. series being officially dubbed and subbed for the Western markets. And yes, a legend about a WWII battleship converted in the form of a spaceship voyaging through space in battles and wars against alien empires who threaten life on Earth and several other innocent parts of the universe. That legend is "Space Battleship Yamato" (also known as "Space Cruiser Yamato" and "Star Blazers"), currently consisting of three T.V. series, five theatrical films (incl. the upcoming film "Yamato Rebirth"), 2 OVA miniseries, and one T.V. film (three if you count recap movies "Yamato 2: Complete Edition" and "Yamato III: Destruction of The Solor System").
Happy 35 years to the great Anime legend!
