News: Gundam ZZ Mecha Designer's SBY Project

Yesterday, ANN had revealed that "Mobile Suit Gundam Double-Zeta" mecha designer Makoto Kobayashi is currently working on a remake of "Space Battleship Yamato" (known as "Star Blazes" in North America) intended for release sometime next year. Kobayashi annunced about his project during the closing ceremony at Anime Expo on Sunday. Although the story premise isn't yet revealed, this will not be his first time working on a "Space Battleship Yamato" work as his previous contribution to the SBY franchise was doing mechanical designs for "Space Battleship Yamato: Resurrection" (2009).

My thoughts: I am sure some of you are thinking, "didn't Japan already released a remake of Space Battleship Yamato last year? Isn't it too early for another remake of the 1970s classic?". Well given that "Space Battleship Yamato: Resurrection" suffered a box office disaster in Japan, another remake can do some good in increasing interest in the legendary franchise further in Japan, though Shoji Nishizaki indicated months ago that he's working on a fourth SBY T.V. series and a six theatrical animated SBY film. However, I also feel that Kobayashi should have waited longer before doing his new work as "Space Battleship Yamato: Resurrection" was made to show part one of SBY protagonist Susumu Kodai's voyage to find his wife's missing body throughout the wilderness of outer space.
