Another update to post about the upcoming Space Battleship Yamato 2199. According to Anime News Network and the Yamato 2199 website, this remake will introduce Yamato crewmemebers not of the mainstream Space Battleship Yamato continuity in addition to featuring new versions of the old continuity's depicted Yamato crewmembers (Juzo Okita and Susumu Kodai for example).
The new characters are:
- Isamu Enomoto: Susumu Kodia's trainer and chief petty offcer onboard Yamato. That's right, we're finally getting to see instructors taking part in the voyage, unlike in the original anime.
- Kaoru Niimi: The Yamato's counsellor, thus making her equivalent to Meeme from Space Pirate Captain Harlock and Deanna Troi from Star Trek: The Next Generation as they ll hold the same title. However, it's unknown about her department at the moment as she will wear a color uniform not seen in mainstream SBY continuity.
- Makoto Harada: member of Sakezo Sado's mediacal team on board the Yamato. It's possible that Yamato 2199 character designer Nobuteru Yuki wanted to create a unique uniform color scheme for medics as opposed to re-using the black-on-yellow scheme used on Yuki Mori's uniform in both this anime and the original SBy anime.
- Yuria Misaki: Warrant officer serving as one of Yuki Mori's deputies in operating the radar and radio comunications on the Yamato's first bridge. That's right, we're finally going to see a cute twin-tail hair female as a main player in an SBY anime, not that I expect this to be more moe than sapce opera, even though I love moe girls a lot.
