News: GE999 Eternal Fantasy Now Licensed for R1 Release

North America-based anime distributor Discotek is about to once again bring a moment of joy to all North America-based fans of Leiji Matsumoto's anime. For this afternoon, the company announed that it now has license to distribute the short theatrical film Galaxy Express 999: Eternal Fantasy (1998) on DVD, with the region 1 DVD release planed to happen sometime later this year.

About the film: Set one year after the events in 1978's Galaxy Express 999 T.V. series, Tetsuro Hoshino reunites with the beautiful cyborg traveler Maetel to once again ride the train 999 into space after Earth becomes occupied by an evil tyrant. They search for secrets behind an unknown enemy who threatens all life in the universe. The story itself is based on a part of the 2nd Galaxy Express 999 manga series, which is so far the only manga series by Leiji Matsumoto to get officially translated in English for distribution in North America, and it's the fourth original theatrical film to feature Caprtain Harlock. Moreover, this film features the first anime appeararnce of the Metanoid race, which appeared later in Cosmowarrior Zero (if not mistaken), ad will appear again in Matsumoto's upcoming film Cosmo Super Dreadnought Mahoroba.

P.S. watch out for a cameo of the EDF Battleship Yamato from 1974's Space Battleship Yamato, which Leiji Matsumoto himself directed.
