News: Ozma Suffers Tragedy By Being Ranked Last Place in a Poll

Today, Anime News Network posted online results from a poll conducted by the Japanese internet service provider BIGLOBE during July 30 to August 13. While the poll itself is intended to focus on the "Most Popular Spring (April-June) Anime for 2012", it contained 44 titles, and unfortunately, Ozma, Leiji Matsumoto's first major anime work in five years, ended up having the lowest ranking in the poll as it has the lowest amount of votes (the title with the highest amount in the poll is Hyouka).

Although Ozma isn't amoung the best Leiji Matsumoto anime I have ever seen, I have to admit that hearing this news makes me sad as a fan of his work because although Matsumoto took the opportunity to try out new production methods with a story script he wrote back in the 1980s, now I wonder if a second death of the Japan-based popularity of Leiji Matsumoto's works had already occurred (the first death, according to Wikipedia, occured in the 1980s during when Final Yamato got released in Japanese theaters), and if his popularity is truly gone forever, why he still does anime in a time where his talents are unappreciated by many Japanese audiences is beyond me. Hopefully, things will get better for the legendary anime maestro himself after his planned 2013 film Cosmo Super Dreadnought Mahoroba gets released.
