I have entirely too much fun making matt mess with Haruka.
Scene 1
Haruka grinned when her phone rang. "Hey Matt!" They had a nice ocnversation, but then Matt brought up a question she didn't expect.
"Hey, can I borrow your car?"
"No," Haruka immediately replied.
"Please?"
"No!"
"Why not?"
"Because a) you'll make it stink with your cigarettes, and b) you'll do something illegal."
There was no answer.
"...Matt" Haruka asked warily. "Where are you?"
"In your car."
Scene 2
Haruka, for what seemed like the millionth time, took Matt's cigarettes out of his back pocket when he wasn't looking and replaced it with a pack of nicotin gum. They then sat down to play video games and he proceeded to kick her butt. After losing seven straight times, Haruka decided she needed gum. And then realized she didn't have any. Her gaze shifted to the nicotin gum in Matt's pocket.
Unfortunately for her, Matt noticed. He smirked and held up the gum.
"Want some?'
Haruka reached for it, then put her hand down. "No."
"You sure?" He was enjoying this entirely too much.
She reached for it again, but put her hand down. "No." She sat on her hands to keep herself from reaching for it again.
At this point, Matt was cracking up and Haruka decided he needed to be beaten with the video game controller.
Yes, that is how obssessed Haruka is with gum. ^_^
So, here's the first of a couple little scenes I wrote out. It's between Haruka and L, at their first meeting at Wammy's. This is dedicated to Vampireknight15, because you kept saying you wanted me to write more about them together ^_^
Six-year-old Haruka stared at the new boy sitting oddly on the couch. He stared back. They both sat there and she tried not to be the first one to blink, but failed. Flustered by this new boy with the panda eyes, Haruka mustered up all the bravery in her tiny six year old body and walked right up to the boy.
"Why do you sit funny?" she asked immediately.
"I think better this way," he said without thinking about it.
Haruka thought for a moment, then plunked herself onto the couch next to him and copied his adorable crouch. This amused him, and they started a conversation.
"Come see my room!" Haruka exclaimed. She started to get up, and promptly fell over.
"What happened?" the boy asked, still sitting.
"My legs fell asleep, " she explained, with a blushing grin.
"You'll get used to it," he said with a smile of his own, then took her hand to help her up.
And didn't let go.
Yeah, so they liked each other from the get-go ^_^ I just always thought it was adorable when little kids said they're "dating", so I figured why not. I think this is the longest of the three I've written so far. They'll all probably be pretty short. Hope you like!
This is later than I meant it to be... x_x
Haruka wasnt going to answer her cell phone until she saw the caller ID.
Beep.
"Roger? You got the message then?" she asked in English.
"Yes, unfortunately. How long ago did it happen?"
"In November. I would have called you, but I knew you would find out, and I wasn't thinking terrible well..."
"I understand." He sounded sympathetic. "It was Kira?"
"Yes," Haruka said shortly. "Whave you told Mello and Near?"
"I did. Mello... Well. Mello. Near took it calmly, like always."
"Of course," she murmered. "What are you going to do about L's successor? He didn't choose one."
"I asked them to work together," Roger said. "But Mello wouldn't have it. And he said that Near was the better choice. But... He's leaving the orphanage."
Haruka's eyes got wide. "What? But he's not even fifteen yet!"
"I know."
"Well, you have to stop -- he's already gone isn't he?" Roger didn't say anything. "Um, I'm sure I'll talk to him, I have his cell phone number. How's Near doing?"
"Very well. He's been looking over the case, and we're going to form a team to handle everything, like the task force in Japan. Possibly based in America."
Haruka took a deep breath. "Can I work under him?"
She could hear the surprise in Roger's voice when he answered. "But why? You're already working with the task force."
"So I'll leave. I can't stay here, Roger. I just can't."
"I understand," he said softly. "I'll talk to Near."
"Thanks Roger. I'll let you know if I get ahold of Mello."
"All right. Goodbye."
"Bye."
The next time Haruka's phone rang, it was morning. Three in the morning to be exact. She groaned and answered without opening her eyes.
"Moshi moshi," she mumbled.
"Haruka! What happened to L?!"
"Mello?" she looked at the clock next to her bed. 3:12. "Do you know what time it is here?!"
"What happened to L? Was it Kira?"
"Yes," Haruka sighed.
"Kira..." Mello muttered threateningly.
"Mello, you should go back to Wammy's. You and Near would make a good team. You could make a real difference."
"No, " he said right away.
"Just flat-out no..." Haruka said. "Nothing I say will convince you, I'm sure. Just promise me you won't do anything too illegal."
"No promises."
"Oh gees," Haruka groaned. "Mello, I can't deal with this at 3 in the morning. I do actually need sleep. But keep in touch, okay?"
"Mm," he grunted noncommitedly and hung up.
Haruka sighed deeply, rolled over, and went back to sleep.
The next day, Haruka was with the task force during their meeting. During a lull in the talking, her phone beeped with a text message, form Roger.
You can work with Near.
Haruka took a deep breath and loked up at everyone. "I need to say something." She waited until she had everyone's attention, then continued. "I'm leaving the task force."
"What?!" Matsuda cried immediately. "You can't, we need you here!"
"I'm sorry, Matsuda-kun. Really. But I can't stay here."
The chief spoke up, much more calmly that Matsuda. "When will you be leaving?"
"As soon as I can pack my things and get a flight out of here, Yagami-dono."
"It's a shame, " Light spoke up. "You're a real help to the investigation. Is there anything we could do to make you stay?"
"No, there's really not," Haruka said, a little more coldly than she meant to. She had to remind herself not to act suspicious around Light. She couldn't do anything about it until she teamed up with Near. No matter how much she wanted to jump on him right now.
She answered a few more questions, managed to calm Matsuda down a little, and left a few days later.
And that was how Haruka ended up with Near, grinning slightely at his proclamation.
"You can address me as N."
I believe this is the longest chapter I've ever written. I think it's also my favorite, because of Mello's phone call ^^ But I tihnk the ending isn't very good. I dunno.
Ok, so this is not last Saturday's episode, but the Saturday before that. And I don't think it's very good because I had horrible horrible writer's block >_<
Haruka shifted on her couch. She had a book, it was open, and she was looking at it, but she wasn't reading. She knew the rest of the Task Force was meeting somewhere, talking about something that was probably important, but she didn't really care. She didn't care about a lot of things now that L was gone. She shifted again and turned the page of her book, even though she still wasn't reading it.
There was a loud knock on the door, bringing Haruka out of her thoughts.
"Door's open," she called, not bothering to get up. Aizawa poked his head in.
"Hey, Haruka."
"Oh, hi, Aizawa-san. What's up?" Haruka sat up a little more on the couch as Aizawa sat in the chair next to her.
"Well, we were all having a meetingand I fogured I should get you caught up."
"Great, so what's going on?"
"We decided that the Chief will take the Death Note and keep it hidden..." he started. Haruka could tell there was something else that he didn't want to say. She blew a bubble impatiently.
"Good choice. Now, what else are you not saying?"
"We've decided to make Light the new L."
Haruka accidentally swallowed her gum. "What?"
"I understand how upset you are --"
"No, Aizawa-san, I don't think you do." Haruka's voice was icy cold.
"Look, Haruka, Light was the obvious choice. I mean, you're in no condition to --" he broke off when she glared at him.
"What?"
"Never mind," Aizawa mumbled.
"You think I'm not compitent right now." He stayed wuiet and Haruka sighede. "I want to be by myself, Aizawa-san." When he left, she leaned back and closed her eyes.
This isn't going to be good.
I'll try to have trhe next part up as soon as possible. Still got writer's block though D:
There are two times when I typed L's real name, those two times are in spoiler tags. If you don't know and don't want to know, you have been warned.
Haruka watched in horror as L fell from his chair. this couldn't be happening. She couldn't believe what she was seeing, and sll she could think about was the day before, and what L kept saying to her.
It was three in the morning, and Haruka and L were the only ones still working. Haruka finally stood up and stretched.
"I'm going to bed," she yawned. "I don't think I can stay awake anymore."
L stood too, and kissed her. "All right. I'll see you in the morning then. You know I love you, right?"
Haruka smiled. "I know. I love you too. You've been telling me all day, I feel special."
He smiled slightly. "I just want to make sure you know."
Thinking back on that, Haruka realized. He knew. He was going to die soon, and he knew it.
In the brief moment that Haruka was frozen, L had hit the ground and Light had grabbed him. Something in Harukla's brain clicked into gear and she lunged for the two on the ground. She pushed Light away without realizing she was doing it and held L in her arms, trying to talk through her tears.
"R-ryuzaki! L! Please don't die, L, please!"
L's gaze slowly shifted to her. Before his eyes closed, he softly breathed "I-i love you..."
As soon as L stopped breathing, Haruka shut down. Her tears stopped, she didn't move, she didn't even look up when Light started screaming that they were all going to die. She almost would have welcomed death. She could hear what was going on around her, but it was far away, like she was hearing it through a filter. At some point, someone -- she thought it might have been Mogi -- helped her into a chair. Someone, maybe Mogi again, she wasn't sure, told her that they had found Watari and he had had a heart attack. She just kind of nodded.
Eventually, everything calmed down a little and Haruka was able to think a little more clearly. She was drinking a cup of coffee, trying not to think about what had happened, when Matsuda came up to her.
"Um, Haruka?'
She looked at him a little blearily. "Yes?"
He held out an envelope. "Ryuzaki gave this to me the other day. He said I should give it to you if something happened to him."
Haruka inhaled involuntarily. "Oh, thank you, Matsuda-kun." She took the envelope with shaking hands and immediately went to her room. When she was on her bed, she took a deep breath and started to read.
Juliet,
Since you're reading this, I assume I'm dead. At least that's the plan, you never know with Matsuda. Please don't be sad. If it's my time, it's my time.
I know that Light Yagami is Kira. I can't prove it but I know it's him. Do not go after him, Juliet. I can not stress that enough. Under no circumstances ar you to try to apprehend Light. He's too dangerous and I don't want you getting hurt, or worse, killed. Let the Japanese police handle it. I want you to go back to England. Go back to Whammy's, and be with your brother. Forget about Kira, forget about Japan, forget about all of it. Look to the future, not the past. And remember that I love you. Goodbye.
Love,
Lawliet
Haruka read the note again, and then once more. "I'm sorry, Lawliet," she whispered out loud. "I can't just give this up. I'm going to bring Kira to justice."
That took a while to type lol. I'm proud of myself that I finally got it up, hope everyone likes it ^^
