I typed this last night while waiting for midnight.
it's a little depressed but that's cause i was up all alone T_T
9.36pm now. Only 2 hours and 24 minutes until 2010.
The new year’s almost here, but today feels like any other day and I bet tomorrow will too, apart from the fact that all the shops are shut T_T.
And I guess overall, years and dates have very little influence on our lives. After all is today, or tomorrow really going to be remembered in the future? And even if something amazing or terrible does happen, all that will be remembered is a bunch of numbers that represent how far that event is from where we are. And even that doesn’t really matter. It just allows us to give some small amount of structure to the chaos that is life.
After all if we didn’t have these numbers, then life, existence would still go on. And if that were the case then today would really mean nothing other than another moment in time that we have survived.
*sighs* Which makes you question what our society is really based upon. For if it’s based upon anything, it’s time. Shops open and shut at certain times, T.V programs play at certain times, buses and trains come according to those same times. But this invention of ours, this numbering, ordering system for the passing of ‘time’ can be changed so easily.
Governments may decide to put in place daylight savings, which set the clocks back an hour. And everyone just accepts this (well for the most part anyway) and works their lives around this new time frame. This simply decision changes so much, while at the same time changing nothing. They say the world will end in September 2012, but what if we simply decided to skip that month, or ever that year. What if we jumped from August to October, or 2011 to 2013? Would this change anything? An entire month or year never to exist.
But would this mean that a whole heap of other events wouldn’t happen? If there is such a thing as fate. Would it be fooled? And what if only a few countries decided to do this? Would they survive while the others perished? It’s doubtful that fate or history could be changed like this and yet it’s possible that it could happen. And it shows how feeble a concept time really is.
