Wonderful news!!!
In november, my art teacher started urging me to submit to the Scholastic National Art Contest. I decided to post a really cute collage(im not sure if i spelled that right). A week ago, I got a letter saying that I had won a Silver Key Award. Yay.
Oh no!
We walked into biology a few days ago and the goldfish was lying on the bottom of the tank, the next day he was swimming with his head down and his tail sticking up like a headstand. I think he's dying. My biology teacher doesnt seem to care though..
In future loving memory of Myles( a.k.a JJ fish (not my idea, i swear))
Sakura Hime :Legend of Princess Sakura Review (WARNING: may contain spoilers)
Yay! I'm stepping away from my glorious self-tale of life, just because I reeaalllly LOVE this manga series SO MUCH. I would die a happy person if it gets adapted into a anime (hint, hint). :3
I'm going to summarize it as bluntly as possible, because my friends love it when I summarize mangas bluntly.
So, this is the geist of the cookie.
according to manga test drive (i just decided that I'm too lazy to do my own blunt summary (sorry.)):
"During the Heien Era, Sakura is an orphaned princess living deep in the countryside. She is supported only by the charity of Prince Oura, to whom she has been betrothed since childhood. Now at 14 years old, it is time for her to marry, but Sakura wants no part of it. Her reluctance isn't helped by the prince's emissary Aoba, as the two get along about as well as oil and water. To the surprise of no one, Aoba turns out to be Oura himself, and bit by bit he begins to win Sakura over. This is the least of her conflicts, though.
For her whole life, Sakura has been forbidden to gaze upon the full moon, and in a rebellious fits she does just that. It turns out that Sakura is a descendant of Princess Kagura, a mythical being from the moon, and the countryside is full of demons that are drawn to her. The only time they can find her, though, is during a full moon. Luckily, Sakura is not defenseless. She possesses the ability to call forth her grandmother's magical sword and fight the demons herself. Once her powers are revealed, Sakura must flee for her life, as it turns out that there are more than just demons who wish to exploit her powers."
Thank you google.
So, now WHY i love this manga so much.
1.The story is a really interesting romance and yet it has just the perfect amount of action and loss that the pages practically turn themselves
2.Perfect character build up, you get really attached to characters without even realizing it.Maimai captured my heart, Rurijo and Asagiri as well.In fact, when my friend Madison read the books, when Ukyo died, she ran up to me in tears and began beating me with my own book because I let her read it knowing Ukyo would die.She shrugged her shoulders at Asagiri's death though.Ahh good times.
3.The male charachters are so attractive!! My 9 year old sister is in love with Aoba (I let her read the series as well) Enju and Maimai are my favorites.
4.The artwork is GORGEOUS!!! Arina Tanemura has such beautiful style. She's my favorite Mangaka (no offense to Atsushi Ohkubo or Hiroyuki Asada (tegami bachi))
5. Rurijo x Hayate!
7th grade.
Now, onto 7th grade.I said 7th grade had a serious impact on my drawing skills because in 7th grade, I hung out with a small group of artists (none of the schools I've attended til high school had art classes). It was a group of eighth grade boys that I would hang around. DJ, Jax, and Wyatt. Wyatt doesn't have much of a part in any of this other than he wrote stories that mostly involved murder of some sort.DJ and Jax were Bronies (if you don't know what that is, it's a guy who enjoys the cute little childs show, My Little Pony).DJ was an artist too, he just drew more "pin-up" style fan art of My Little Pony characters(mostly Trixie or Rainbow Dash.) Jax was an artist too, but I never saw much of his work. I picked up a lot of my body drawing techniques from Seeing DJ's drawings. for almost that whole year, I was drawing anthro-like ponies wearing short skirts and thigh-high socks.Towards the end of seventh grade,I started drawing more anime-like characters. My friend Marie was a chibi artist. In 7th grade her art was getting really good and I decided I would try and learn something from her.So I left anthro avenue and drew nothing but nekos instead.
8th grade. I met my best friends in the whole world, Madison and Ariyana. Ariyana (I call her Ari)was a manga-fanatic, so I got to finish the sailor moon series and I then read a series called Sakura-Hime: The Legend of Princess Sakura by Arina Tanemura. After that, I fell in love with manga and I watched my first anime, which was Soul Eater.( BTW, Soul x Maka) At that point, my heart was set on being a anime artist.I started writing short comics. Sadly, I only have one left because I either gave them away or I destroyed them (I went through flashes of just getting angry with myself for no reason and throwing weeks of work into the trash). towards the end of eighth grade, I read Alice in the country of hearts and Shugo Chara! (Ikutooo!)
Dj got expelled at the beggining of 8th grade. A lot of rumors swirled around about a severe PDA.
That's it for eighth grade then.the school year ended and we entered the summer of the current year, 2015.
Very early.
I've been drawing since as long as I can remember. I'm pretty sure my earliest memory was either at a Panera restaurant, where I would attempt to draw girls on my dad's napkins. At that age, cleavage looked like lumps and heads were always turned sideways with hands behind the back.(If you've ever seen ancient egyptian artwork, it's a pretty good comparison to how everything was positioned in my early drawings, only mine looked like shaped turds with David Bowie hair)I eventually gave up on trying to draw people after the 2nd grade.I decided horses and animals were much easier.(Lies.) 6th grade was when I developed an interest in manga style and started (trying) to draw people again. In 6th grade I read my first manga ever, which was Codename: Sailor V. Then I read my first Pretty Gaurdian: Sailor Moon.In fact, my first manga drawings had a lot of features resembling Usagi, my favorite character.I stayed like this for about a year, then 7th grade came and my art took a strange turn that, strange as it may seem, really help me today.
