Chapter 1: The introduction

A wide path weaved its way through dense trees, as it steadily inclined up into the forest. Giant trees scraped the clear blue sky, with large branches that cast cooling shade for the traveller below. From a specific point on the path, a magnificent mountain could be seen, its peak covered with snow; the out stretched limbs from these great trees, framed its splendour perfectly, creating a living portrait. All the plants and trees was a beautiful, bright green from all the rain the nights before. The smell of wet earth still hanged in the air, giving the whole area a feeling of tranquillity and peace.
It was still early in the morning. The sun was shining brightly in the sky, with heated rays warming the earth. Two travellers made their way slowly up the path. An eerie silence hanged between them.
They stopped momentarily to look at the mountain, marvelling at its size and majestic beauty.
Still taking in the sight, he finally broke the silence. ‘Why here?’
His bright cyan eyes slowly drifted to the young female traveller accompanying him. He watched her patiently, waiting for an answer. Her emerald green eyes remains fixed on the mountain. A gentle breeze tugged at her hair and pink dress.
Brushing a stray hair away from her face she replied softly, ‘Because.’
The look in the man’s eyes darkened, clearly irritated, ‘That is not an answer.’ He stated with a cold tone, a small hint of anger in it.
The woman only smiled. She ignoring his abhorrent stare and continued up the path, leaving the man no choice but to follow. The dark look faded from his eyes and took on their usual emotionless outlook. He let out a loud breath of frustration before continuing.

By late morning they came to a fork in the path, with a direction board in the centre of the fork. According to the direction board the left path twisted higher up into the mountain and the right path led to a house called, “The house of Dragons”.
‘I’m still wondering what that means.’ She said, not really talking to anyone specific.
While studying the direction board an unexpected loud rustle of leaves from the tree above them attracted their attention. Shading their eyes from the bright sunlight, they cautiously inspected the tree branches above to see……nothing. A figure suddenly dropped out of the tree onto the path, surprising the 2 travellers. It rose up and turned to face them. Standing in front of them was a young woman, a little older than the female traveller, but younger then the male. She was quite lovely. She was small with a slender body, which was no doubt in excellent physical condition; dark brown hair that hung up to her shoulders and brown eyes that seemed endless in their depths. Her skin had a beautiful light sun kissed tan. The woman was dressed in a white t-shirt with colour prints on it, light brown shorts, displaying her toned legs, and white “All star” sneakers.
‘Aya,’ Aerith exclaimed surprised. ‘…What were you doing in the tree!?’
Aya made a quick scan of the tree tops above before answering. ‘You didn’t see an ugly little creature come this way holding an object wrapped in cloth, did you?’
Aerith shook her head. ‘No sorry... why…what’s wrapped in the cloth?’
‘The orb of Amnar, it is a powerful object that can do…well...I was a bit careless…I sort of left it unguarded.’ Aya explained with a sheepish look on her face. ‘I didn’t think that someone would be stupid enough to steel from my house. Guess I was wrong, huh?’ She rubbed the back of her neck, with a goofy grin.
‘I see…, so are you looking or hunting?’ Aerith asked, lifting a slender eyebrow.
Aya grinned. ‘Both.’
She then turned her gaze from Aerith to the very attractive man next to her. She carefully studied him, taking in his distinctive features. He was tall, with a well built body, his long straight silver hair hanged past his waist and his fair skin tone complimented his bright blue-green eyes. He was clothed in a black leather coat with metal pauldrons on his shoulders, black gloves, loose fitting leather pants and leather boots that reach all the way up his legs. He also carried a very, very long sword.
Their eyes finally met. Immediately Aya noticed that there was something strange about them. His pupils were not like a normal human; instead they were also like a cat’s, just like the others. But she could sense that his eyes are special, and…they held a secret, a dangerous secret, yet at the same time so emotionless and empty, reflecting only what they see. How strange…, she thought, but very beautiful. She had to admit, she has never seen men with such interesting and strange traits before, and she HAS seen many strange things in her life.
‘And who is this?’ She finally asked, still holding his gaze.
‘This is Sephiroth.’ Aerith replied.
A warm, welcoming smile spread across Aya’s face. A jolt shot through Sephiroth, pinning him to the spot. No one has ever smiled at him like this before. Normally all he got was a half smile that looked more like giant smirk from the president, nervous smiles from all the 2de, 3de class SOLDIERS and infantry, back when he was still in SOLDIER, but never one so warm and true. But now…no one smiles anymore, they just see him as a threat and a monster. Anger and hatred rose at the mere thoughts of his past.
‘Sephiroth…, what a strange name….’ Aya studied the ground, rolling his name over in her mind. Raising her head to meet his unusual eyes, she smiled again. ‘I like it. I’ll remember it.’
Sephiroth silently accepted her compliment and the anger faded, but just a little.
Aerith continued the introduction. ‘And this is Aya Miyamoto. She is the master of the house you’re going to stay in’.
Sephiroth didn’t respond, he just returned Aya stare with the same intensity. He found that the more he gazes into her eyes, the more it felt like he was being sucked into them. It came to him suddenly that more than one person was looking back at him. They say that the eyes is the window to a persons soul, to his astonishment he saw not one soul, but three. Mentally he saw 2 creatures slowly coming in to view behind the girl. On her right, a white creature with blue eyes and on her left a black one with red eyes.
The black creature swiftly advanced and snapped at him, bringing him out of his trance. Sephiroth blinked a few times; the surrounding slowly coming back in to focus. What…was..., unable to finish his thoughts, he realized that he felt kind of strange and… a little startled.
Aya turned her head, breaking eye contact with Sephiroth, to listen for the unusual noises that were coming from a tree nearby.
‘What is it?’ Aerith asked softly.
‘Wait here. I’ll be right back.’
Sephiroth and Aerith watch as Aya walks in the direction of a tree to their left.

*’That wasn’t very nice, Yami.’ Telisa said, giving her sister a, you-should-be-ashamed look.
‘What, if he stared any harder his eyes would have fallen out of his head’. Yami stated innocently
‘Still, you didn’t have to surprise him like that.’
‘Telisa is right, be nice. Ok?’ Aya’s voice came from between them, as she slowly appeared into view. Yami folded her arms across her chest, pouting, ‘Fine’.
But the pout disappears quickly and a slow smile spreads across Yami’s beautiful face, mischief danced in her red eyes. ’But you have to admit, playing with peoples mind is so much fun’.
‘Yes it is.’ Telisa remark, giving Yami a dismissive wave of her hand.
‘Don’t you wave your hand at me,’ Yami scowled with her hands on her hips.
Telisa sighed, rubbing the bridge of her nose. ‘Can we please just get back to the matter at hand?’…...*

Aya sighed; all she could do was just smile at the 2 sisters as they continued to bicker. They have been like this since the day they were presented to her. That was also the day she got her new names.
Aya approached the tree, pretending to be inspecting something. She placed her arms around the tree, like she was hugging it. Aerith and Sephiroth looked at her as if she‘s crazy. ‘Ok.’ Aerith states, with a puzzled expression on her lovely face. Sephiroth remains silent, weird girl. He thought
With a smile Aya started to squeeze the tree. A loud crack echoed through the forest. The other 2 began to wonder what the heck she was up to. Aya squeezes harder and with an ear splitting snap, the tree broke in half. Aerith and Sephiroth stared at her in absolute shock. They were not quite sure that what they saw really happened. Such a small person, a big tree…
Something jumped out of the tree top, as it slowly fell to the ground. It leaped over Aya’s head; who in that same instant turned, and released a sharp metal point attaches to a cable from her left hand. She threw it with force, wrapping the long cable around the leaping figure. With one hard yank it back down to earth. Everyone watched as it hit the ground hard.
‘You didn’t think you were going to get away that easily, did you?’ Aya said, with a smile on her pretty face.
Aerith was astounded. ‘She knew it was there all along….Cool.’
Sephiroth, on the other hand, was hardly impressed. Not bad for a little girl, he smirked sarcastically. The anger faded and irritation replaced it.
The ugly creature rolled over on the ground to peer up at Aya with his inky black eyes. The creature had black hair, or what was left of his hair was black. His skin had a yellowish colour that reminded Aya of someone that threw up their lunch. His hunched over back, thin arms and legs made him look like that assistant named Igor of the Frankenstein scientist only smaller. He wore ragged clothes and an anklet around his ankle with a symbol on it, which was to indicate who his master is.
‘Get up.’ Aya demanded. ‘…Alright Gark, hand it over.’
‘No. Mine.’ Gark said, with a voice that sounds like nails on a chock board.
‘This is your last chance…, hand it over or else.’ Aya extended her arm out to Gark.
He looked at the orb in his hand considering his options. His black gaze slipped back to Aya’s hand, then to her hand holding the cable.
‘Only if you let I free from rope thingy.’
Aya lifted a suspicious eyebrow, ‘…Fine.’
Aya loosened the cable around Gark and let it disappears by her side. Without warning he threw the orb into the air. Everyone looked up as it climbed high into the clear blue sky. Gark jumped for Aya. So he wants to fight for it, she smiled. ‘Fine, let’s do it.’
He grabbed her around her waist, lifting her in an attempted to throw her, but she quickly turned in his arms, to take up a powerful stance. With ease Aya lifted Gark over her hip and threw him effortlessly. He fell on the ground a good 5m away.
Aya straighten up, sticking out her hand she caught the orb as it came back down to earth.
‘It’s a 100 years too soon for you to throw me around.’ She stated. ‘Now, run along and tell your master, better luck next time.’ She waved her hand to shoo him away. Gark shot her a poisonous look over his shoulder before mumbling something really colourful while leaping away like a frog.
Satisfy with the outcome, she turned back to Aerith and Sephiroth. ‘My first fun filled activity for the day’ she said amusingly, as she walked over to them.
‘That was…interesting…I think’ Aerith said, a bit unsure.
‘Not one of my most glorious of victories. But it’s victory none the less.’ Aya made small bow.
Aerith giggled and Sephiroth…he just stood there, looking at Aya with the same empty expression, obviously still not impress.
‘All right then, where were we………oh yes, you said that he is also going to stay at my house.’ Aya unwrap the orb to check if it is still in one piece.
‘Yes’. Aerith’s answer came out straight and to the point.
Glad to see that it’s ok, Aya wrapped the orb up in the cloth again. ‘Since when did I become the galactic babysitter…?’ Aya crossed her arms under her breasts giving Aerith a look. Sephiroth frowned, Babysitter? He clenched his fists. He could feel the anger rising inside him again, insolent little girl.
‘…Besides, the other 3 you dumped on me is enough trouble.’
‘Please, Aya.’ Aerith made her best and biggest puppy eyes.
‘Oh no… not “the face”.’
‘Please.’
‘Anything but “the face”.’
‘Please.’
‘No.’
Aerith’s eyes got bigger and she added the lip. ‘Pleeeeaaassse’
Sephiroth could not believe these 2. They were actually arguing over whether he can stay at this girl’s house or not. How pathetic.
Aya groaned, as Aerith kept looking at her with “the face”.
Finally, with a long and heavy sigh Aya gave in, ‘Fine he can stay.’
‘Oh, good.’ Aerith clapped her hands together in victory. Aya just shook her head, with her hands on her hips. ‘Ok, now that that is settled, I will be on my way’.
Aya’s head snapped up. ‘Hold on a second, we have to talk’.
She grabbed Aerith by the arm and dragged her one side. Sephiroth‘s eyes followed them. ‘Women’, he sighed. He walked over to a nearby rock to sit on. He had a feeling that this is going to take awhile. Sitting down he let the long blade of his sword rest against his shoulder, with the butt of the hilt on the ground between his legs. He leaned forward resting his chin in his left hand, elbow propped up on his knee. Once comfortable, he returned his attention to the girls. ‘How irritating’ he murmured.
Aya turned to Aerith. ‘Ok, one question, why me?’
‘Because’
‘…Huh? What is that suppose to mean?’
‘Well, because’
‘No way, you are not leaving until you give me a proper answer, not a “because” ’.
‘Ok. While in the life-stream, I was thinking of that day when you came through that portal into the church in the slums. You told me that you are an inter-dimensional traveller, that you can open portal to other dimensional worlds and...’ Aya crossed her arms and sifted her weight to indicating that Aerith must get to the point. ’So, I thought about all that info for awhile and came up with an idea.’
Aya groaned, ‘Ugh, I knew I never should have shown you how to open portals.’
Aerith went on‘…Anyway, so my idea was, for the trouble makers, to go stay in a world far away from planet Gaia. I want them to live their own lives, without feeling the need to destroy something or someone. Besides they have been though enough…especial him.’ Aerith gestured in Sephiroth direction.
‘I see…’ Aya considered Aeriths words for a minuet. But then she continued her questioning.
‘So way didn’t you dump them some were else, why here?’
Aerith giggled. ‘Sephiroth asked me the same question. Because they will destroy any other place or try to take it over, so I need someone who can keep them in check and you fit the bill.’
‘I fit the bill?’’
‘Yes, you have an advantage.’
‘And that is?’
‘You’re a girl and they are unfamiliar with your skills.’
‘Ok…, so what is going to stand in their way from destroying this one?’
‘You... And I know that there is no ways you are going to let that happen. So if they try anything you can easily kick their butts. You have the strength and abilities to back you up.
‘Ok.’ Aya smiled, but a serious look came into her eyes. ‘There’s one more thing.’
‘Yes?’
‘The other 3 is more trouble than dangerous, their easy to handle. But Sephiroth…, I can see his…’ Aya threw a quick glance at Sephiroth over her shoulder. ‘Just how dangerous is he?’
‘...Lets just say you don’t want to make him angry, not at this stage.’
‘Is he human?’ Aya just had to ask.
‘Well...actually half human.’
Aya lowered her arms to place her hands on her hips not believing Aerith’s answer ‘He’s half human? …You serious? ...So what is the other half then?’
Aerith folded her hands behind her back, with a sad smile on her lips. ‘That is unfortunately a story not for me to tell.’
‘…Fair enough,’ Aya replied.
Sephiroth cyan eye was focused on the girls, shifting from Aya to Aerith as their conversation went on, and from the way they continued to look in his direction, he could only guess that they were talking about him or they were making sure that he hadn’t pulled a disappearing act on them. In truth he was very tempted to do just that, but he knocked the idea aside knowing that it would be a waste of energy. Obviously this girl Aya knows this world very well and blending in for him would be impossible, especially with his unnatural and unique look. It won’t take her long to find him, and bring him back here. He let out a heavy sigh of frustration.
‘Ok, I have to go now. Aya, please be careful.’ Aerith started to fade.
‘I will…, by the way since when did I ever let any man scare me?’
‘Since never I think. But remember, Sephiroth is no ordinary man and is not the same as the others you are use to.’
‘Don’t worry... I’ll keep that in mind.’
‘Good, bye for now.’
‘Yeah bye…. Hey, what do you mean “for now”?’
But Aerith has already disappeared.
After 30 min Sephiroth notices that Aerith was fading, leaving only Aya in his line of sight….
