Nature

I haven't the foggiest clue how to gut a fish
I've never needed to
I harvest my wheat from aisle two
But I'm not sure if it's really wheat.
I climbed a great tree once.
But then we took a chain saw to it when mom found out it ruined the sewer pipes.

I like to hike.
My sister and I spend hours on little dirt roads that lead to nowhere.
I always get sad when I see beer bottles and trash
broken in the creosote bushes
But I find myself too busy to pick them up.

I suppose the earth gives me everything I have.
Like wood for cupboards and paper and such.
I try to recycle the plastic bottles that held funny-tasting water.
And I fed the ducks at the pond yesterday.
But I don't know how to give back to the earth what it's given me.
I suppose I'll leave that to everyone else.
