Architect defies gravity

Florence, Italy- Today a new structure called “The Cathedral of Florence” was built after 16 years in construction (1425 -1436). The brilliant mind behind the architecture was Filippo Brunelleschi, a truly remarkable man whom is very intelligent. The construction of The Cathedral of Florence was built with an extremely unique design using no pilasters, arches, scaffolding, columns and reinforcement for support. Brunelleschi design uses a double walled ovoid shell anchored at the base by a 15-meter tambour (eliminating extra support).
