Back to the work + Newish style
Huzzah! I figured out how to draw noses! You don't know how happy that makes me! The nose makes the picture, to me! Of course, there are pictures without noses that are still good...but I like noses.
I also now know how to draw eyelashes, again! If you haven't noticed I had forgotten for a while. I also now know how to draw coloured eyelashes better...it all has to do with strokes.
I noticed that the eyes I draw are more circular...that could be okay for girls, but not so much for guys. I need to make longer eyes, more oval shaped eyes.
The focal point of those pictures are the eyes...and kinda the lips. For the girl I started with the lips, for the guy I started with the head shape. You can kinda tell the difference between starting with the lips and starting with the head shape. The guy is more proportional.
There are some people who start with eyes or start even with hair, I can't do that because I have to know the basic shape of the head. I can start with lips because the mouth shows you the jaw line so I can draw the rest of the head...though it is harder.
Just now I was looking at head proportions and practicing draw heads and other facial features. I like learning~! I was going to work on some other things...but I don't know if I have time to attempt them...but I will.
I need to work on hands and feet.
Here's some of the things on my list to work on:
Colouring
Hands
Feet
Facial Structure
Composition
Clothing
Backgrounds
Anatomy
Perspective
Weapons
A lot of them are hard to work on. I'm going to read my perspective book for the hundredth time but this time I will work from it.
For anatomy I'm looking at scientific models because art models don't allow as much freedom and I can't really see how a lot of the stuff works...O.o; Y'know, with scientific models you can see how pressure can be applied and what certain parts of the body do. If they just stay there or can move. So if I want to do a grotesque picture I can! :D
Composition...I don't know how to practice it...I've never been very good when it comes to composition...so I don't know what to look for...O.o;
Clothing...I just need to figure out how to make different fabrics and how to do more airy picture without making the clothing look really wrinkly and thin...More flowy I mean...
I look at elaine-sensei (she changed her username, though) for reference:
It's amazing how she makes folds! *.*
But it's not just folding, I'm also trying do leathers and also designs. I always get weird designs that nobody could ever make in real life 'cause they're just not possible...so I need to work on that...'orz That or they're really boring and not catchy.
Colouring...*shakes head* Colouring's a b*tch...*shakes head* Sorry for the profanity, but really. Colouring...I always have the most trouble with it. Actually, I don't really know anybody who doesn't have trouble with it. I want to give my characters certain amount of depth, but if I just forget something little (which I often do) they turn out flat...'orz
Even though I like flat art...
Background are also a pain...to an extent. They're actually not that bad, but I never feel like putting any effort into it...>3> I should one day.
I've recently gotten interested in weapons~! There's so many and they're all so cool and actually very unique! *.* Mostly weapons that aren't guns, though...I don't like guns...but I really need to learn how to draw them. I should study that, too...I need a diagram of it inside and out.
Here's something I've learned...well...maybe this is just me. When you're trying to learn how to draw something it's best to know all the parts and their names. This way you don't forget something.
The human body is pretty easy, but I need to learn anatomy and muscles. Since I won't be taking an anatomy class in high school (unless I do senior year, but I doubt it), I'll have to teach myself on my own. But luckily my Spanish teacher is an anatomy teacher so I can have her help me on some~! XD
Anybody interested in a...I guess more of an analysis journal than a tutorial...but just things that I take notes on about anatomy etc. Usually I ignore them, but it would be careful analysis and observations about certain things to draw or just things that could help in manga stuffs.
Oh! Here's something I learned for people interested in writing manga/draw panels:
The VERY MAXIMUM amount of panels a person should have on one page is 16. I suggest going below that number to prevent clutter.
The most amount of panels per line (that would mean horizontally) is 4, and the most rows of panels (that would mean vertically) is 4. So it would be 4 by 4. But that doesn't mean every page should be 4 by 4 (this would give you 16...4 panels each row and there are 4 rows).
It is best to mix up these amounts to make it more interesting, but based on what's important. What is most important to the scene should be the biggest and what is just quick bits adding up to it should be smaller. Some pages only have 2 panels, some have more, it's really very random.
It is suggest to keep the amount of panels more at a 3 by 3 instead of 4 by 4
to prevent clutter, but the amount can exceed 3, but no more than 4.
Vertically long panels (tall panels, they read up to down instead of left to right, if this makes any sense) put together make fast paced action scenes that are sudden. It's good to make what happens in these panels, time wise, happen slowly, so when the reader reads it seems more dramatic and it goes by facter because reading from right to left on those thin panels is very quick.
But those kinds of panels can also be slow paced if there is a character in those kinds of panels then the reader will look at them from top to bottom slowly.
Horizontally long panels (wide-shot panels) are good for slower action, like kabooming and stuff (kabooming is my word for stuff blowing up...'orz). By slower action I mean stuff that you want the reader to see clearly and slower, but this doesn't mean the action isn't face.
For instance, if somebody were punching a character it would be good to put it in a horizontal pattern. Since the reader reads from right to left they can quickly notice the action. It also focuses on the character being punched.
But if it were the character being shot by a bullet and the bullet is in it's path to the character (as the punch is in it's path to the character) it will seem as if the bullet has stopped, even with speed lines.
Maybe with those examples you guys can understand what I mean. Usually in cartoons or something when they do the 'BAM!' and 'KABOOM!' and they kinda freeze the frame and shake it, those are the kinds that are good for horizontal stuff. But you wouldn't do that for shooting, it just makes it seem shorter.
Wide shots and Vertical long shots are mostly used for action manga, while more boxier panels are used for shoujo manga and the like. It just depends on the atmosphere and also the mangaka's style.
In my opinion I think action manga would be more fun to write than shoujo just because of this. Sometimes it's more fun to read.
...I wanna do an action manga now...XD
Oh! And about that character popping out thing...I dunno when is the right time to do that...I guess when you want the focus to be on that character or something...O.o; It's like kanji...you know there's a reason and something that tells you when to use it, but you don't know when or why...'orz
By 'back to work' in the title I meant that I'm done with relaxing to the point where I'm bored, now it's time for me to work on praciticing all this stuff and to work on the stuff I've had in my to-do list.
Since I'm going 'back to work' that also means more anime watching and manga reading...hehe...XD Work for me means worth while treats at the end! >;D
Oh! I started watching Tiger&Bunny yesterday. It's really good and it DOES feel like an American cartoon...but if only American cartoons were like that...>3> It kinda reminds me of Teen Titans in a way...It's very funny.
I love how Barnaby (sp?...Seriously...I call him Mr.Bunny, I don't care about his real name) 'Bunny'! It just reminds me of Takeru from SuG for some reason...Taiga to Bani...>:D I love the sound of bunny in...umm...what do you call Japanese english? It's not jinglish that I'm looking for...is it?
I also watched Toward the Terra...which I thought would be AWESOME, but it's ANNOYING! TT^TT I love Soldier Blue's design, though. He's GORGEOUS:
It kinda looks like oldie manga. I LOVE the look of oldie manga~! Their eyes are always sooo pretty and sparkly and their noses and so cute~! X3
And fdsfnugndignkjsaldmk!! If only legend of the galactic heroes wasn't such...well...a stereotypical old anime:
Look how gorgeous that art is~! *melts* Too pretty...TT^TT I wish I could...get through an episode...There's almost no animation, the voice acting isn't very good, and the music puts me off soooo bad...TT^TT It's oldie kids show star trek-y sounding...uggg...And they keep saying 'ware ware'...I wonder what that means...*looks it up* Oh...'we'...Well...I guess that makes sense...That's what I thought...but still...stop saying 'we'! Say some 'boku' or something...
I also watched some more steins;gate today. So now I'm up to episode 6...
Oh! My mom bought me some ballpoint pens so now I don't have to keep using my art pens to write (seriously...I was...it was torture...TT^TT). Why do I need pens? 'cause pens are better than pencils when it comes to writing!
Well...I hold my pencil in the wrong place and I don't put too much pressure on the paper so it's usually pretty light...and it bothers me when teachers ask me to rewrite things when I can CLEARLY see it...stop being so blind teachers...*shakes fist* So my handwriting is unreadable, without the help of pens! Still unreadable 'cause I basically cross out all my words with the ink dragging to each letter...buuut...at least it's dark~! :D
Actually my friend gave me some good advice about notes. I lost a whole 2 pages of my Japanese notes because I wrote them in pencil, and the same thing happened to her with her Spanish. So she now writes her notes in pen.
I'll be taking language notes tomorrow~!
Oh! I've been noticing I've been able to understand Japanese a lot more than usually. Sometimes when...something goes wrong with the video I'm watching with the anime I'm watching...certain parts usually black out and it's often the subtitles, I can still understand what they're saying even without the subtitles. Sure I didn't know for sure what 'wareware' means...but most of the anime I've watched say 'boku' or 'watashi'. And I actually kinda DID know what 'wareware' meant...I just didn't believe that it was 'we' 'cause I just guessed that it was from how they were using it in Legend of the Galactic Heroes.
'kay 'kay~! Goodnight, buenas noches, oyasumi nasai...ermm...I don't know goodnight in any other languages...or do I?
大家晚安! :D
theO Fantasia world: Clarifications and Questions
Okay! This time I will clarify everything for everyone since last post I was talking about two different things at the same time (so weird).
The concept: On the japanese art website pixiv almost every year they have 'pixiv fantasia' which is sort of a huge game that most people participate in that anybody can enter freely. There are about 4 different nations, 1 for knights, 1 for mages, 1 for some kind of bunny animal thing, and 1 for asian stuff. When a person creates their character they chose which nation or country they're from. For instance, if they want theirs to be a knight then they're from the nation for knights, and if they want theirs to be a samurai then they're form the nation for asian stuff. It's all about creating characters. At the end of the year whichever country has the most characters in it wins.
In conclusion, it's a game where people can freely create as many characters as they want and they can sometimes rp with them if they'd like or they can draw comics of their characters, whatever they'd like. Some people also draw other people's OCs if they like them and stuff like that.
I wonder if that makes sense.
It ISN'T an RP. The whole part about the RP is up to the people and they can RP whenever they want to, but it's not really apart of the game as a whole.
The idea: My idea is to create a world to better organize this. Have what countries people are in and what characters are in the game for reference of other people. Also comics about their characters can be posted there to continue side stories and etc..
The point: The point is to have fun! It'll force more people to draw things that they'd like to and improve on things that they'd like. It can also be a way for people to create their own stories for their own worlds and such things.
---
My Questions for you guys:
1. Should there be guest posting and if there should be how will it be done (I've never had guest posting before, so I'm not exactly sure on how all this could work)?
2. Should it just be a challenge instead or should it be a world that includes challenges with certain themes having to do with the fantasia?
3. What kind of theme should it have, or should there just be different countries with different themes?
---
Better clarification
This person explains it much better than I am (I'll just post the entire article thing):
"This is mostly an explanation for my friends but if you're a Pixiv user and wonder what exactly are those Pixiv Fantasia artworks you see on Pixiv, here's a little briefing on it for you. (And lol, I just realized my briefing weren't exactly that correct, narugami ;;)
You see a lot of "collaboration projects" on Pixiv and Pixiv user "arohaJ" can proudly say Pixiv Fantasia was one of the earliest collaboration projects to be invented on Pixiv that became very big. Check the 企画目録 tag and you'll notice that PF's "project catalog" is in the very last page, being bookmarked by more than 900 people.
How it works is that the project leader introduces a fantasy world with 3-5 countries in it (plus maybe some extra forces, as seen in PFII) and it's your job as an artist to create the inhabitants of any country of your choice. Each country has their own traits and specialties so the inhabitants you create will have to follow the traits of that country (like how one country is pretty much Asian while the other is full of wizards and witches and the other brings up magic knights, etc). The inhabitant (/artwork/submission) you create will eventually gain Views by passerbys, of course, so the amount of views your artwork gets will be the amount of "points" it has. The project leader will visit every submission in each country to count how many points each artwork has, and then accumulate those points to total into the country's points. So the main premise of the project is to see which country has the most amount of points in the end, and granted as the "winner".
This doesn't just go into one straight line, of course. There are story "events" sometimes that goes in limited periods so the character with the most points at the time would "find the 7 Legendary Orbs" or "beat the Giant Grungnir" or something funny like that. :P What's interesting is that some of these artists that have popular characters that make it into the "story" would always draw down a comic or something similar about it (for example, Maruco's Rokka beat the great Grumand and he got into the newspapers and this let his sister knows about his whereabouts, so Maruco made a "travel digest" for Rokka that connects this series of events) so it's nice to see how active artists are in joining the project. It's like an RPG in the form of artworks!
Not only that, as people play around, they also start to make their own guilds, unions or factions or blabla the list goes on, so this increases communication between the artists and their own characters with other artists/characters, thus also increasing the amount of artworks for the country they're in, therefor more points! But people don't care much about which country wins, anyway. The whole point is that if you love the fantasy genre and love creating OCs, you'd msot likely enjoy this project. If that's not enough for you, you can also "RP" your character through artworks/comics too! Or even more, you get to interact with other artists, maybe even your favourite artist! That, and your character might get into awesome group fanarts like this.
So, yeah, it's quite a fun project to watch. :) I didn't follow Pixiv Fantasia II too much besides what my fave artists made, but Pixiv Fantasia III just started today so I think I'm gonna try to follow it a bit more closely this time. Maybe even create a character and try to join it for the heck of it if I have the time."

So if there were a world it would be a main world that branched off to other worlds with links to other people's pages/clubs/guilds to better organize that stuff.
If anybody else has any ideas that would really help! This isn't just my project, I hope to get a bunch of people involved so everyone can draw more and have more fun with extra activities.
What I don't want is something that feels like a club which challenges that say 'This is only for people in such and such group'. Whenever there's a good challenge that says that I just feel broken off...and I don't really want to join those groups, I just think it would be fun to draw something for that challenge...
I also don't want something that has lists of 'these are all the members' I don't want there to be 'members' I just wan there to be 'characters' and if you're a member of theO then you're already a member of this.
Since it's so big...maybe I should ask one of the admins for help on this I dunno...>3>
What do you guys think?
Candyland: Questions
I'd like to do something about that Candyland idea. So I have questions (I was going to give this an adjective, but I don't know how many I'll ask) that I'd like some answers to.
Okay, I'll make it easy and just number.
1. What kind of style should it have? Cute (Like Puyo Pop Fever), Detailed (like Valkyrie Profile), or something the middle (like Ar Tonelico)
2. Should it be more mature or cute?
3. Should it be open world (like Zelda) or a regular RPG (like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, etc.)?
4. Should it be psychological (like Persona) or with a nice morla (like Tales of games)?
5. Should it be more mainstream or more unique?
6. Should it even bee thought of as a game?
I just have an idea while asking these questions! XD I have an idea...and if I go through with it...I don't think it would really make a game anymore...maybe a super game...O.o; OR I can make it like pixiv's Fantasia! Like a guild or club or something, but not make it too exclusive.
I was thinking of changing one of my worlds to Candyland and have guest posters post their characters and descriptions about it, draw eachothers OCs, and stuff like that. The country with the most wins, and that's how the game would be played.
In fact, people don't even have to be guest posters, because if we don't want to go through the guest posting business, we can just get some people to just post other people's OCs with their permission or if they want to join in or something...Hrmm...I dunno how this would work.
It's not an RP...well...kinda...like an art RP.
Okay, yeah.
You can answer the above (Candyland's still going on, these other questions are about the world):
1A. Should the world have a fantasy world of Candyland or something more free without a theme?
2A. Should there be guest posting or some other method?
3A. Should this idea be made into a challenge instead?
4A. Should I ditch this Fantasia idea and just go ahead and make a Candyland world for game ideas?
I can come up with some stuff and make it all pretteh and organized for this idea...
Tell me what you think...I have so many sudden ideas right now...'orz
Thank you NINTENDO...gosh...>.>
I've been searching FOREVER for information on Skyward Sword...and everywhere I go they just keep talking about what they talked about the presentation but I DON'T WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THAT! I WANT TO KNOW MORE!
So finally I've looked on Nintendo (which for some reason takes forever to find on google...) and FINALLY! INFORMATION!
Not THAT much information, but at least it's not every little thing I already know.
So I'll fill you guys in so you don't have to go through the pain I went through...*tear* (Totalleh exaggerating)
It'll take place in the sky world AND on land, that we kinda already know. But apparently (they're probably exaggerating it to make it sound really amazing...don't know this for sure) it'll have a pretteh huge world. Not as big as Wind Waker's, but BIG OPEN WORLD, MAN!! I love those kinds of games! That's good news for me, but I'm not totally for sure.
Exploring also means dungeon-like puzzles...which isn't too big 'cause a lot of times you have to go through that kinda annoying crap (like the freaking moblins which have scarred me for life from Ocarina of Time...or even the Forbidden Fortress in Wind Waker...Such annoying places).
New items and ITEM UPGRADES AND REWARDS! That's TOTALLEH new and nobody seems to talk about that...>.> And another thing that nobody talks about.
The adventures and storyline includes going through a dungeon and then going back into the same dungeon to do more stuff. I LOVE that because I always feel like I've forgotten something (which I usually have) whenever I get through dungeons, or there are those times I think I might come back, but then I can't...>.>
I think that all is pretteh cool. It's obviously going to be like most of the other games...but...almost all the zelda games are like the other games...O.o;
And NINTENDO also seems to be the only place with ACTUAL PICTURES OF THE ACTUAL GAME THAT ISN'T FROM LAST YEAR on their website. You'd think the other websites would get to it immediately updating this stuff...doesn't take like to copy an paste a picture and then upload it in an article. Sounds hard, but really, it isn't, I'm doing it now.
Omigosh! *freaks out* LOOK AT THAT GUY!! He looks like an adult white version of Vaati from the Four Swords series thingamadoo(he's been in other games, I can't really give him one game) mixed with Zant from Twilight Princess.
Urggg...flying...I hated flying in Twilight Princess, I hope that isn't the same...But HEY! Flying~! :D
But I REALLY hate how Zelda looks. Her hair is waaaayy too yellow with a bit of green....like how disgusting her hair was in Wind Waker:
(Ahem....sorry for the spoilers, I couldn't find a good picture of Zelda...>.>) It's FREAKING GREEN!! Ugg...
And Zelda's hair is the same colour in the new game. Why can't it be like Link's!? Why can't it be like in Super Smash Bros.:
Brown, or even orange! Anything is better than greenish yellow!
And it may seem that I am freaking out over nothing since Zelda's hair doesn't look that bad in the screenshot, but it's just the lighting in that picture. Her hair really is ridiculously bright and green-ish like in Wind Waker. It may have to do with the style of the graphics, maybe, since they have the same style as Wind Waker.
Oi! Look at the picture! O.O Look at those lips! Could he be...*looks around* A gerudo!? It could be possible. The gerudo ALWAYS seem to have those kinds of lips.
Y'know what...I really want either a bit more futuristic Zelda game or a Zelda game that CONNECTS all the games. Or with reference to all the games like how in Twilight Princess the fisherman girl had that picture of the fisherman from Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask who always scratches his back.
It would be called...Legend of Zelda: Mirror something! There should be little references to little things from other games with pictures of former Link or something.
E3 really makes you wish for other kinds of games that don't exist.
For instance, I really want to play a Phoenix Wright game with an Open World...of course, that'd never happen because there'd be no point in doing that.
I just want a TON of open world games!
Oh! They really need to make a crossover open world Nintendo game or something! That'd be really interesting! The fighting game people have Super Smash Bros. the adventure fool around people have the open world Nintendo game.
Also Nintendo REALLY needs to make a modern game. By modern game I mean it takes place in a city with real people...but it can have a fantasy twist to it. Make a new series.
Oh! Open world F-zero!...nevermind...that might be rated M...O.o; Not like F-zero is too much of a kid game...O.o;
I would say Open World Fire Emblem, but that wouldn't really work at all...O.o;
Okay...for a bunch of Pokemon fans including myself is they made an open world pokemon game with a BUNCH of customizable stuff...that would be some major overkill...and you can have pokemon daycare and--*dies* It'd be liike Pokemon Universe...
I think they need to make much bigger worlds in a lot of games. I LOVE huge worlds~! But not annoyingly huge, like a bunch of random fields that take forever to walk through or GIANT OCEANS...nah, that was fun, fun, fun, fun, fun...I love Winder Waker...except certain points in that game...but the ending is EXCELLENT!
Ugg...I wanna go play some games now...But I don't know what to play! TT^TT I want to play my imaginary games...XD
*falls out of chair*...I want this game:
*.* I heard it was voted 3rd most interesting game of the year last year in Japan...*.*
I would say so many games to get...but it's actually just Zelda and that game...but I currently have no money...or...physical money...I forgot how much I have now, but I have a long list of games I want to buy.
...Only downside to the game above is that it's a lot like Final Fantasy...especially with the designs, and I don't particularly like the designs...>.> Too many random details distracts from the main idea and the attraction of the character.
But whatev...
I'm gonna work on ideas for Candyland since I'm in the mood...XD Who knows, maybe in the future I might get somebody I know to help me make the game...XD (Almost all my friends in real life are interested in game designing)
Fragglebraggle!! Too cute OC!
I usually don't say this about my OCs...nor do I say this too often about female characters, but...
Hanabi-chan is just too adorable~! X3 She was a Furuba OC before...I dunno what she is now, but she's too cute to throw away!
She kinda looks like Ai Otsuka, though (*cough* I just happedn upon a Koharu Kusumi pic looking for Ai Otsuka...she almost looks like Miley Cyrus...>.>):
'nyways, this post isn't only about Hanabi...then this would be a worthless post...XD
No, it's more about how many OCs I realize how much I love~! <333 I really want to draw solo pics for them, now. Like with Hanabi.
Oh! And I'm finished with DRAWING all those chibis. Now I have to ink and colour them...'orz *sigh*...I'll start tonight...I have nothing else to do.
But E3!! E3!!! <333 I can't wait for Nintendo's presentation~!! <333 And, pfft, I could care less about the other companies...>.> I do like Harvest Moon a lot, and am a Harvest Moon fan and all...BUUUT, I don't like the new game this year...well...Rune Factory is an OKAY franchise, but I'm kinda tired of it. I liked it the first time, but nothing was particularly improved...>.> I just like looking at the character designs...Hrmm...but the game is much more zoomed again...which I really like ('cause I'm a stalker), but I WISH they'd do that for the other games and stop making them so cute! I mean, I like the cute stuff, but I wish the normal Harvest Moon games would not draw their characters in chibi styles...it's okay for a few games, but not ALL of them...>.>
But ZELDA! And NEW CONSOLE~! Holy crap! I'm sooo excited~! <333
My brother is grading all of the presentations and he said if there is no Reggi then they get an 'F'...XD Of course, he's kidding, but my brother says that he's the best guy for the presentations.
I hope that Nintendo keeps the 'project cafe' kind of title...like make it taste-y sounding~! XD It would just make it a cuter console! XD Ugg...wait I heard that they might just make it just 'Nintendo' which is a STUPID idea because that means that the console defines who Nintendo is and it is perfection for them, which is a bad thing because that means no future progress and also EVERYBODY CALLS EVERYTHING NINTENDO! It kills me. They say 'don't bring your Nintendo to school' but 'I don't own the company, and I don't think it can be BROUGHT to school...'....>.>
Oh! I should get back to what I was doing...sorries 'bout that! XD
