Turned a few more pages...XD
But I'm learning a LOT! Even though I don't this is something I should be learning from. But everything they've been talking about has to do with the two writers themselves.
Obata, I know, likes action stories, or masculine stories. And I guess they're basing the characters after themselves because Saiko just said he likes masculine manga. Obata said he's always wanted to draw a masculine manga, one with a lot of muscles and stuff like that (personally, I hate that kind of manga...but there are some exceptions. My brother loves that kind of manga).
So they're talking about what kind of manga does well...that made me think...Ermmm..y'know...the manga I wanna write...it's not main stream, it usually doesn't do very well...Well, Pandora Hearts did well, I guess. But idol manga doesn't do well. Hrmmm...lemme list some REALLY popular manga:
Ouran High School Host Club
Bleach
One Piece
Naruto
NGE
Death Note
Sailor Moon (don't think this one counts)
FMA
Cowboy Bebop
Gundam
I think those are probably the most famous. Most people have read those manga, or watched the anime. Now, what do they all have in common?...ermmm...yeah...well, they said in Bakuman that they all have battles and swords, but I added in some manga that don't have ANY battles like Death Note and Ouran High School Host Club, who may have mental battles, or comedic battles, but not physical battles.
Death Note's popular for the brilliant writing, and, well, Ohba-san and Obata-san did a great job on collaborating on this.
Bleach is popular because...ermmm...crap...most of these manga I'm not a fan of, or I think is really boring...ermm, it has action, and a lot of fan service characters...And the shounen style is popular...O.o
One Piece is popular because of the action and randomness and the fact that it's about pirates, which isn't very usual, but very interesting in the correct manor and style of writing. It's popular because of the interesting technique and how fun it is.
Naruto is popular...ermmm...really? Why is popular? Hrmmm...it's about ninjas...and they have magic...and they have swords...and they fight...and it's shounen. And some characters appeal to the female audience! There it is! Guys like Gaara, Sasuke, Itachi, and the fact that Sakura and Hinata are put into the mix...if it has a tad bit of romance and still keeps it's masculinity, then it'll do well, that's what I get from Naruto.
Neon Genesis Evangelion. IT'S GENIUS!!! The story is amazing! Sure it probably was an instant success, but y'know the writing was amazing, and it was on TV a lot, so somebody was SURE to watch it. Plus robots are VERY popular.
Ouran's popular because it's funny and it's a romance and it has a somewhat shounen style, which is good because Haruhi has to look more like a boy than a girl, which she is. It's the use of so many bishounens, plus the girl who doesn't care about them. That's why it did well, because it's so random.
Sailor Moon...I read somewhere about why it was famous...but I can't remember it now. Well, basically, the story was really unique for it's time and very interesting and girly...and I can't remember anything!! TT^TT
Full Metal Alchemist...I don't like it...>.> The only reason I see of why it's famous is because of Ed and the fact that he is short and lovable...>.>
Cowboy Bebop it's basically like every shounen's perks put together. It has a part "blues" feel, plus it's futuristic, and it just has so much stuff combined into one, so it's very interesting and popular when you have all the best parts of shounen manga all in one.
Gundam...it's about robots...I don't remember why I liked it so much...but I really liked it...maybe because it was on TV? Well, I actually found it a bit boring.
So...where would you find your manga would be? And how could you make it more popular?
If I missed anything or my points were bad, please tell me because I'm really tired and I just want to stop talking even though I just brought up something that I'd like to finish and get off my chest...>.>
Guhhhh...Bakuman! I'LL COME BACK TO YOU!!
Oh! And in case your thinking ,"WOW! SHE READS REEEAAALLLY SLOW!!" I actually was watching Coraline like 30 minutes ago (and reading Bakuman 20 minutes ago before I started typing this).
