The tips are from my observations...dunno if they actually work. Also, I'd probably be pointing out the obvious here! XD The tips are on how to make a more unique style (maybe?).
I've been looking at a lot of different artists and I've read about many of them to better understand them as an artist and I've noticed many similarities. I don't have any examples (too lazy to think of them/I can't remember anything..;;)
My first point is an obvious point that well all know. Most (if not all) artists' style builds up from trying to draw like their favourite artist. Because of that, it usually has SOME element of their favourite arist (in some cases it's really hard to see, but most of the time you can tell when you look in their favourites or at their favourite arists).
My second point is that EVERY artist subconsciously draws themselves in their artwork. In other words, no matter what you draw it will still look like yours. Even if your style is almost identical to another artist it is obvious to almost everyone after quick examination that they are two different artists because they have different kinds of feel (unless your an artist like Nona who seems to change their style every new KOF game so you don't know WHAT is THEIR art).
My third point is that some artists that I've seen (I really don't remember where I'm getting this from...;;;) draw what they think beauty is in their characters. For instance, if there is a celebrity they really like then they might draw their characters with characteristics similar to them. If they don't have a celebrity they like, of course they just imagine whatever they think is beauty (you get meh point).
My fourth point is kinda similar to my second point that you really can't get out of it because it's an artistic style that you're born with. Women will always draw men a bit more feminine and men will always draw women a bit more manly. I know what you're thinking from me saying this, there are TONS of male artists who draw really girly art, but have you noticed their anatomy? It's either WAAYY off or strangely off, you can't put your finger on it. I've seen some pictures where the position of the female isn't something a female could actually do. It's kind of like an 'S' shape that most men can be in when they're relaxed, they have their groin out and their back relaxed, well, females can't do it like men can and a woman in that position just looks odd, no matter how girly she looks.
My fifth point...is...is...Umm...Gotta make something up here (there CANNOT be FOUR points...;m;) Okay, my fifth point is also something obvious. Your environment and your artist friends effect your art, of course. Most of the artists I've been looking at have about the same kind of styles as their friends. Well, they're usually pretty different styles, but they might use the same colours or just have the same feel.
I feel that when I look through an artist's favourites it still shows their style, it still has that same feel as their style.
So now tips time~! :D
If you want to combat point numbah 1 then just expand your list of favourite artists. Find new favourite artists to be inspired by and to learn from. But don't just decide on one artist, look at other artists to learn from. I know that is pretty self explanatory, but I've seen a lot of artists that are sooo in love with some other artist that their style is almost copying the other artist. Be more open with art, I guess. Try different styles that you might not have been comfortable with before.
I now like Araki Hirohiko and Kazuma Kaneko, whom before I really detested and refused to not look at. I also used to ABSOLUTELY hate muscles and any drawings with muscles drawn (I even made a comic about my hate that's in my portfolio! XD) and now the majority of my favourite artists draw HUGE muscles...okay not THAT huge but to me Araki Hirohiko drew MASSIVE muscles.
If you want to combat point two...well....you can't so there! XD (I've just saddened you...;w;) I've struggled with trying to get out of it, but from seeing so many other artists with art that looks like them I stopped trying to fix it.
Oh, also, have you guys seen Range Murata!? I'm not posting his picture ('cause he scares me...sorry...;;), but just look him up on google. If you compare his face to his pictures he looks REALLY similar to the girls he draws. He doesn't have a feminine face, but its just something.
After seeing that, I just gave up on trying to get out of point two..."orz
If you want to combat point number three...umm...wait, why would you want to do that?! I guess...just draw people who you think are ugly...O.o; I don't think anybody wants to do that (maybe some cartoonists or something). I would suggest from point number three that if you really like somebody and want your art to look a tad bit similar to them to pursue drawing them to the ends of the earth! >:D
I would do it! :D Actually...I don't have that much patience. I can't draw the same thing twice...or...I can't focus on the same thing twice..."orz But I do want my art to look more like Tegoshi Yuya or Niel or one of me loves. At least, the guys. From how much I'm drawing Tegoshi Yuya, I see that happening! XD But I want to expand it to the other guys I like. (Actually I want to be a master Tegoshi Yuya drawer...XD)
To combat number 4 I've actually seen some artists try to do this, so it is possible to a point. TO A POINT. As much as you try it still won't be perfect. I've seen people who draw 'manly' guys but they still have this bit of femininity. I just suggest trying to perfect drawing somebody of the opposite sex...*shrugs*
To combat number 5...well...that's another impossible thing. And also...why would you want to combat it? It's just a reflection of your style. You are who you hang out with...*shrugs*

Okay, done with that. I've got to be truthful, I've done nothing for...I guess this entire week...I've been feeling a bit depressed because I don't know what to do. Every time I try to draw on photoshop my tablet just starts freaking out on me and I can't draw a nice line and my circles look like squares...O.o; It's some bad lagging. I don't want to draw traditionally either, just something about it is putting me off.
I think the problem here is waiting. Whenever I wait, since I'm WAITING I feel I don't have enough time to do anything so I don't...and then I get frustrated when I realize how much time I had to do something...I don't like waiting. I can be really patient on the outside, but inside I'm slowly dying. But then when whatever I'm waiting for comes I'm back to normal. That's why whenever I'm waiting for a package to come I have an art block or just don't do anything.
What am I waiting for this time? I'm waiting for school to start...'orz I don't want to start, but I feel I don't have enough time. Actually, I'm more like waiting for my school's open house so that I will KNOW when school will start so that I can start panicking. Since I don't know anything about next year, I feel like I'm just waiting for the information...it's not a good feeling.
Ah, this was good to get out. I feel like doing something now! Kinda...ehe...
Oh, but right now I'm waiting for the new Suju teaser...XD I'm SOOO excited! It's coming in...17 minutes...if they update RIGHT at 12:00 AM (which they won't, but I'm just hoping).
Oh, and if anybody's interested I have a revised version of my favourite artists:
Nothing's numbered...sorry...;;
My mom went shopping for shoes that SHE DOESN'T REALLY NEED that she's been wanting to do for a while and to get shoes for my brother WHO ONLY KIND OF NEEDS THEM. But I'm the one with the foot problem who doesn't have any shoes that fit except for my boots...TT^TT All because I didn't want to go to church...>3> If it wasn't for what day it was I would have because then I would have also suggested to go to get ice cream since I wanna try mint or pistachio ice cream! TT^TT
I will put 'shoes' on my 'back to school' supplies list. I think this time we actually need to go shopping. Crap! I forgot to clean out my backpack and binder! XD I dunno where to put it. I still have all the crap from last year in a HUGE pile on one of my shelves...maybe I should force myself to do some organizing and to do my homework tomorrow since I'm not doing anything...>3>
Oiii! I was right! Here's SUJU teaser:
...I-I've never seen this before...where the comments are crazily updating SOOOO much! And it's going so fast..O.o; 12,660 likes in 10 minutes...*eye twitches*
Okay! Bye-bye~!
