PeinXKonan

PeinXKonan.

Why do I like this new couple so much?

There are a multitude of reasons.

The first is as follows.

There are exactly 46 possible pairing within the Akatsuki, and out of that, only 9 are heterosexual (though that number changes to 16 if you count Deidara as a chick). Out of those 9, out of the entire 46, PeinXKonan appears to be the most logical.

The second reason (and this one is especially true of myself) is that PeinXKonan looks a lot like NarutoXHinata. Naruto and Pein look alike, and so do Hinata and Konan. Additionally, the personality types match up(Naruto/Pein= Determined, reckless, rash, wants to change the world, overpowered, never gives up and never backs down Hinata/Konan= Somewhat shy and reclusive, but strong and loyal to important people) At the same time, though, it’s got the badass appeal that comes from the Akatsuki. So, to compare NarutoXHinata to PeinXKonan in a mathematical sentence would look like this:

[size3]PeinXKonan = NarutoXHinata + (Akatsuki x Badass)[/size3]2

PeinXKonan also contains elements of SaskueXSakura, NarutoXSakura, ShikamaruXTemari and others.

Now, I could list a number of reasons why Pein and Konan LOOK good together (such as their piercings, or how blue hair contrasts orange hair) but what really makes a couple is how their relationship works. So how does their relationship work?

In the canon, we see Konan carrying out Pein’s orders without question. Pein relies on her and seems appreciative, but neither seems affectionate. We also know from canon that Konan grew up with Nagato, the first possessor of Pein’s special ability (but not one of his current bodies) and Yahiko, who seems to be Pein’s favorite body. All 3 were orphaned by war in Amegakure and taught basic jutsu by Jiraiya.

Where canon ends, fan speculation begins. Pein is undoubtedly the reason Konan is a member of the Akatsuki, but how he convinced her is fodder for romantic fanfiction. If love was the reason, one might also think that Pein joined the Akatsuki to impress Konan. But that still leaves the identity of Pein to question.

Is Pein Nagato? I first rule that out as impossible, since his body no longer exists. However, Pein cannot be Yahiko despite the fact that Yahiko is his favorite body. A likely explanation is that Pein is neither Nagato nor Yahiko, but an entity that merely uses Yahiko’s body.

But that’s not very romantic. So I came up with a different theory that plays off the possibility that Naruto/Saskue/Sakura’s relationship may have been somewhat like Yahiko/ Nagato/Konan.

Perhaps the Rinnegan is not a Kekkei Genkai, but instead a Cursed Seal jutsu, a Secret jutsu or a Forbidden jutsu. The Rinnegan was possessed by the first jutsu practioner after all. Or perhaps it is some other sort of spiritual ability.

So, here’s how it goes:
Yahiko, Nagato and Konan are attacked by 5 ninja. They are loosing badly when Konan is almost killed. Yahiko interferes and saves her life, but this leaves Nagato open to attack and he is mortally wounded. In a vengeful fury, Yahiko (with or without assistance from Konan) brings the 5 attacking ninja to the brink of death. He and Konan stand over their friend’s dying body. Before he dies/at his exact moment of death, Nagato passes the Rinnegan ability onto Yahiko as well as his memories of how to use it. It is at this moment that Yahiko becomes Pein. He uses the Rinnegan ability to control the 5 ninja (which are now his 5 other bodies). Then he swears to Nagato, then to himself, and finally to Konan that he will use this newfound power to end all war.

Just something for you to mull over while you watch this:
