Silent Watchmen

Sometime in the duration of Night's sleep he felt Lizzy curl up next to him. He refused to stir as not to alert her and relaxed, letting her get comfortable again. Once he felt her settle for good he wrapped an arm around her to shield her from the darkness' chill.

As the sun rose Night raised his arm slightly, looking down upon the sleeping lass. She looked so comfortable he didn't want to move. So, he laid still and waited patiently until she was ready to wake...

((Sorry for the short post O_o))

Creepy Crawlies

Rolling around restlessly, Lizzy just couldn't seem to get comfortable in the mat of leave she and Night had made. She let out a puff of air in exasperation and looked up at the ceiling of the cave. Even in the pitch black darkness she could make out each and every crack that spider-webbed it's way across it.

Random thoughts flitted about her mind like small insects looking for a crumb. She let them take their reign of her mind as she replayed the days' events in her head, smiling at what happened that morning, but frowning upon remembering the two brothers leaving them.

She looked over at Night who was sleeping next to her, his face the most relaxed it would ever be throughout a day. She laughed again to herself thinking on how his face was usually scrunched up or in a scowl. She rolled towards him to hold onto his arm in another attempt to get comfortable.

Listening to the nights' sound of whatever assortment of creatures this new land had to offer, Lizzy drifted slowly towards sleep, the insects still skittering through her mind. She held onto Night, using his arm as an extra bit of cover as she let the bugs crawl away.

Night's Rest

Night could see the pain in Lizzy’s eyes as she watched the two disappear. He felt solemn but he knew that she was very adaptable and that her sadness would pass quickly. He let her talk it off and she seemed ready to go, quicker than he’d been ready. Night shook his day dreaming and realized Lizzy was the one pulling him. He smirked to himself at her pride and made sure his steps weren’t too out of sync for her.

At each break he would watch her, watching everything else in sight that her eyes... those new and wondrous eyes could take in. They had walked for quite some time and Night decided that he would take lead so that she could stay distracted if she liked.

During the long haul, Lizzys eyebrows began to crinkle with worry. Night watched her expression and waited for her to decide whatever it was that she was thinking. He felt odd at the moment… letting her do all of the navigating and being silent, observing her, her face and her body language. It wasn’t something he often did. He was a leader, an out spoken sailor and always had a good laugh. These days were different… He was observant, quiet and thoughtful. He had always let his hands do the walking, let his mouth get him into trouble and his fists get him out of it. He felt a deep trust in this wee one and so he took the place as guardian rather than fronts man.

Liz shook Nights hand, tugging it up and down. "Why don't we stop here for the night? We shouldn't completely tire ourselves out to get there in one go." He watched her pause and let out a big yawn. "Plus... I'm sleepy..." Night smiled at Elizabeth and ran a thick hand over her hair. “Yes lady. But it not wise to be so close to the waters at night. We don’t know as much about here as we do our lands. I suggest we find some shelter for the time being.” Night looked around the area as the light started to fade from the sky. “Come, we’ll scout together and once we find somewhere safe we can make camp.”

Night took Elizabeth’s hand and walked her a bit away from the water’s edge. He was worried that something like the creature before that she described might show up again. He was still worried about the magics of these lands and the creatures that could cast such. He believed that that was more dangerous than any fanged or clawed thing he’s ever come across… He saw a cave in the low light and bade her stay at the mouth. “Do na move. I will be right back.”

Night walked into the mouth of the cave and drug his hand along the wall. He looked as best as he could in the darkness. He almost wished he’d had a torch or something that could make fire. He walked deep enough into the cave to where they could sleep and be safe. He called back to Elizabeth letting her know it was safe. He watched as Lizzy walked to where he was with no problem at all. He looked confused for a moment. She said “What?” Night paused again. “Can you… can you see just fine?” He wondered out loud. She giggled and said “Yes silly.” He scratched his head and let it be. He was sure it was yet another ability she had gained when her eyes had changed. He wasn’t used to it and he was sure that even she didn’t know what to think about it but he knew it would be helpful. Night asked Lizzy to help him gather things for bedding so that they could rest for the night.

Raindrops

Lizzy was slightly devastated. Chala and Seryn were gone and she had really liked them. She wished they could have stayed at least a little longer with them. She was also confused. What was that 'Red Rose' business they were talking about? Was it her? That surely didn't make sense... Lizzy shook her head to clear her mind then smiled up at Night. He looked back down at her and squeezed her hand lightly as his eyes beamed at her.

"So, should we go ahead and start before it gets dark? Maybe we can reach Kandai before then if we hurry! I hope she has some of that fruit we ate earlier. I could eat it for hours."

Lizzy grinned and started walking forwards, slightly dragging Night with her. She giggled and kept pulling him along until he finally took the hint and caught up. Trying to puff her chest out, she took quicker and slightly longer strides to match Night's tall pace.

They walked for several hours, taking small breaks whenever they happened to come across a small stream or other water source. At first Lizzy was the one leading Night, but after a small while, he took the lead. Lizzy had started to gaze about at everything, taking all the different things in. She hadn't thought there could be anything new to look at after doing so for hours, but there were.

Even more vibrantly colored flowers and plants mingled with each other. Lizzy had found a new favorite that has large yellow petals that were triangular. In the middle of the petal a lime green zig zag pattern extended towards the tip of it.

Dark eventually crept up on them. Lizzy sighed tiredly. She had hoped that they would reach the cliffs by nightfall, but it seemed the distance was much further then they had thought. Or else they were lost...

She really hoped that wasn't the case, but there was not telling. She waited until she could hear the sound of running water before tugging on Night's hand. "Why don't we stop here for the night? We shouldn't completely tire ourselves out to get there in one go." She paused and let out a big yawn. "Plus... I'm sleepy..."

Lightning

Night wasn’t too happy about having to swing through the air but if it was a fast and a … safe… way to travel then he’d suffer for the time being. At this point he wouldn’t mind claiming himself to be a land lubber if it meant he could keep his feet on the ground! He tried not to look down and held on tight, hopefully not too tight as to harm the one he was clinging too.

After several minutes of wishing to be back on the ground Night felt all motion cease. He opened his eyes reluctantly and peered over the Spreekalin’s shoulder. Sweet Siren! They were on the forest floor again! Night scrambled to the ground and in his haste fell to his knees. He laid his face in the soft mosses and was tempted to kiss the ground but thought otherwise for he wasn’t too sure what plants were around… and then he realized he should probably get up… because everyone else was staring at him.

He got up and dusted himself off like nothing had happened. He stood in awkward silence for a moment before he heard Lizzy burst with laughter. She giggled so hard that this time she fell over and everyone began to laugh. Night laughed a thunderous bellow as well and then leaned over to assist Lizzy to her feet. Her eyes poured tears from giggling and she was trying to catch her breath. Night patted her on the head and said “Come on wee one, that’s enough humor for ye in one day.”

Night realized that he didn’t hear extra footsteps. He turned around and looked back at the two Spreekalin and he looked puzzled. Lizzy looked at them with a sad face and asked “Are you going with us?” The one called Seryn replied “This is the journey of the Red Rose. We are but aids. Fulwah wanted us to assist you in making it to the edge of our province.” Night placed a hand on Lizzys shoulder, he knew she would be upset and he had hoped that she would recover quickly. She seemed to really have taken with the Spreekalin.

Lizzys face scrunched up and she sniffled a bit. She put her hand over Nights hand and sadly said “Okay…” She ran over and hugged them both tightly, rubbing her face in their soft fur. They both hugged her back and mimicked Night by patting her on the head. She dried her misty eyes and took a few steps back. Chala said to Lizzy “The Red Rose is strong. Seek out Kandai on the edge of the cliffs. You will get the answers you seek.” They both bowed as Fulwah once had and like a flash of colorful lightning, they disappeared.

Night looked down at Lizzy with concern, wanting to know if she was ok. He knew her positive attitude would kick in and she would be fine but he often wondered how “Okay” so really was…
