The winds were strong and the storm was drawing closer. The island in the distance was the only chance they had. Night and Liz were holding on tight while the rest of the crew fought to control the vessel. Night knew that the island up ahead was foretold to be dangerous but he really had no idea HOW dangerous.
“Liz!” Night called out to the young woman. “Get down below the deck and take cover!” Night, himself, tried his best to stay with the crew of his ship but they were being thrown from side to side with the force of the waves. Men who didn’t have a strong grip on something were tossed over the side; others who were attempting to fix the riggings were tangled or knocked unconscious. Night swore under his breath and went to make sure Liz was safe. The only female on board, he felt it his duty to protect her and at least prepare for the worst.
Moments later there was a thunderous CRACK and the ship started filling up with water. Night grabbed for Liz and held her tight to his large frame to protect her from harm. As the ship went down he tied himself to a barrel of rum and knew that he just may be able to float towards the island. His eyes widened when he realized the massive wave coming down upon them, he gripped her by the waist with all his might and shouted through the storm “Hold ye breath!” He took in one for himself and then braced for impact.
The wave crashed down and destroyed half the ship. Night and Liz lost consciousness under the weight of the water. Night impenetrable grip held Liz with a force to be reckoned with and he rose to the surface as the storm ragged on.
Sometime later Night awoke. He felt his arms in a pinch and as his silvery eyes looked upon little Liz’s body; he realized that his arms were sore from locking them together so as not to lose her. He shook his midnight blue hair and stretched out one arm. He placed her over the barrel of rum so that she could move and he could stretch his other arm out. They were still bobbing in the water but not too far from their location was the island’s beach that they were heading for. Night groaned and started kicking, pushing the barrel through the water so that he could get Liz to safety.
