Do any of you guys find giving presents to your parents a tough challenge? It's almost impossible to make them happy with anything! Especially if they are asian....
For example, if you get any of these:
- buying something
Their reply: "Why'd you buy me something? You just used MY money, so it doesn't count as a present. Also, what's the point of getting me this?"
- flowers
Their reply: "These are going to die tomorrow"
- make them something
Their reply: "You wasted your time making this?" and then they proceed to point out every part that they don't like and force you to make it to their liking, causing you to have to start all over
So, yea. I almost never look forward to their birthdays/Christmas/etc. It's not that I don't love them or anything, but the gift giving part.....ugh
I'm just bringing this up now because today was my mom's birthday (*shock*).
And of course, I didn't know what to get. And I procrastinated until the actual day of her birthday. When she asked for a present, my younger brother and I started stressing 'cause we both didn't have anything. In the end, my brother dug up a phone book and I wrote a short card:
"Gifts are expensive
Flowers will die
So I didn't get you anything
Not even a pie"
And then my brother and I combined our gifts to give to my mom.
Result? At least she didn't complain as much. :D
