I just happened to pick up the first of this manga at the bookstore, and was instantly fascinated. This is a witty, entertaining series, and one I am looking forward to collecting to completion.
It's a bit more "mature" then what I usually read, but I thouraghly enjoyed it, with the excpeption of the occasion foul word. The story-line is simple and perhaps a dress up of an old theme, (coddled pet seeking independance in a hostile world) but its wit and lively charachters make for a good time.
One thing that really caught my attention about this manga, is it has sections in it, which explain some of the referances which a japanese would quickly understand, but that were lost in translation a bit. It even has a page defining all the honorifics and thier exact purposes, which makes it either fascinating or handy for both new and old otakus.
Of course, the cat references used throughout the book are cute, quirky, smart, and fun. Even I, who doesn't usually like cats in real life, am drawn in by these "fiesty felines".
The drawings are also very well done, and exciting. Even my baby brother (four years old) enjoys looking at the pictures, when most of my other manga bores him.
So, if you happen to see one of these mangas next time your at the bookstore, think about buying one and trying it out. They are recommended by the Rider!
