Well, it's that time of the year again! Those guys in the south are all laughing at us northerners and really, really southerners, (like... Antarctica) and we're slipping on black ice, digging ourselves out of the snow, putting on the winter tires and just all around freezing our butts off. Life, as a whole, sucks.
Or does it?
Well, let's see: cold weather, Christmas shopping, annoying, repetitive Christmas songs on every single radio station, trying to get everyone together for the holidays, and horrid driving conditions. Yep, it sucks. Right?
Wrong. You see, what people seem to forget at this time of the year is how cozy it can be. Look outside at the snow. Don't think about the cold. Think about how everything is a prestine white, with thick layers of frost on the trees, and how everything glitters and it seems like nothing could be wrong out there. Let the words "winter wonderland" sink in.
Like winter yet? No? How about coming inside after a long day and putting on the big thick sweater that you never wear because it's always too hot, except now. Throw in some old movies and a mug of hot chocolate, and the cozy feeling that is always there just fills you up. Maybe you're cuddling with a significant other. To those of us who aren't, maybe you're with some good friends.
Maybe you're going outside and starting a snowball fight, or making snow angels, or snowmen, or forts, or sledding down a big old hill. No one, and I repeat, NO ONE is too old for sledding.
Then there's christmas. You've done your shopping, and now you're totally calm. You're getting presents heaped on you like it's your birthday, or maybe just a couple meaningful gifts. You've got the turkey to eat with the gravy and potatoes and stuffing and everything else. You're almost too full for dessert. Almost. Then again, maybe you're not having a big meal this year. But you're spending it with people you love, and even that bratty cousin of yours can't ruin your mood,(although you will whip out your camera and get plenty of pictures when they do something silly that will absolutely haunt them for the rest of their lives.)
Liking winter yet? The thing to remember isn't how much it sucks. Think about the good things, and I mean really think about them, and let them get you in the spirit. Because we all know what happens to Scrooges: they're just unhappy old men who get haunted by ghosts, and ghosts are creepy. Who wants that?
Stay happy, theO, and go glomp the person you like and wish them a big Merry Christmas on the last day of work or school. Because you know what? This time of the year, we can. Friends of glomper, don't give the glompee any warnings. It's more fun that way.
Happy winter!
