HELLOs. MintIceCream here(MIC for short) tis a world about me, and the crazy antics of my 5 cats that just love to drive me nuts.

i recently graduated from college with a BS degree in education, certified for art (I'm an art teacher). i currently sub teach while i shop for a job in my content area.
Mindy-my cat, she's a white cat with tabby splotches all over. She's 15 years old, nonsocial, phychotic, and crazy. But i love her all the same.
Texa-my dad's cat primarily, he has a tuxedo style coat. black with a white strip down his belly, on his paws, and the lower half of his face. he's also a manx(no tail) and very talkative. a gentle giant, very lovable, although he doesn't really like me to well. he's 11 years old. (he's also kind of a cranky old @$$)
Bogart-mom's cat. and mine sometimes. the very fat one of our family. he's 7 year old. a brown tabby who loves to raise chaos. he loves to terrorize the adults, and chew on everything. he's also a big pig and will eat anything. even though he's my mom's cat, he loves everyone. he's quite the ladies man. he prefers the company of women over men.
Sammie-Ryan's cat. 7 year old. he is all gray, with thick soft fur. the sweetest cat in the whole world. he isn't all that smart though, and kinda slow. definatley not our brightest bulb, but we love him all the same. he will do anything for a tidbit of human food, so i have managed to teach him a few tricks. his favorite food is gold fish. we try to tell him it's not a real fish, but he doesn't believe us.
Augustus (GUS for short)- everyone's cat. the newest addition to our family, we rescued him from a cousin who should be banned from owning animals. he was 5 weeks old when we got him, so tiny. he's now 3 years old. he is a miniture norwegian forrest cat. all black, orange eyes, and EXTREMLY fluffy. he is the baby of the family, and res1sident ninja/trouble-maker. he is also quite dog like. he will sit and shake paws for a treat, likes to play fetch, loves meeting new people, and go for walks on a leash and harness.
anyways, have fun, and enjoy the power of the minty-ness.
Last night the secretary from my favorite high school called me in a panic. Evidentally some teachers had gone to a conference and their planes had gotten delayed, leaving her with missing teachers, and in need of subs. So today I got to sleep in then just walk to work. And the plans left were easy. Have the kids keep working on their project and put episodes of Planet Earth on for background noise. Though one class was human growth and development, and they had to read a section on abstinence and we watched a lifetime movie about teens sleeping around and getting stds. So that was . . . . Interesting to say the least.
Inalso spoke with the ACP (special needs) teachers. One of them is going down for sugery, and they need a long term sub. The secretary had asked me to think about it last week, and I was unsure about taking the job. I live teaching art to the acp kiddos, but to be their teacher all day for a variety of subjects is a whole different ball game. But the kiddos they have aren't violent or runners, they, the schedule, and the content is something I think I can handle. So I told them I would take the job. And I've already got a long term for when one of the art teachers has her baby. So for 4 months I will be able to just walk to work. That will save me so much money not having to gas up my car, and I won't have to spend 30 minutes commuting either.
So today I subbed math at a high school, and it's a high school I don't go to as often, and in a part of town I'm not particularly fond of. And I've decided I'm not going back to that high school anymore. The first class was fine, a but chatty with some goofballs, but good. The next two classes were nightmares. There's a para with those classes, and he just started a week or so ago. Those kids were determined to get a rise from him to start a fight. They were cussing at him, yelling, doing the opposite of everything he asked, and being as big of a disturbance as possible. I've seen a lot of angry and rebellious kids, but never have a seen such a blantant anger, disrespect, and foulness from a group of kids towards a particular person in a classroom before. Those kids were just foul. And the para didn't rise to any of the taunts, he didn't give them the fight they wanted. Which is good in the fact that he's being the mature adult, but bad in that now the kids are even angrier that they can't get a rise out if him. I had to fill out so many behavior referrals today, and make several calls for security to come to the classroom to escort the main aggresors out. I was mentally exhausted after having to put up with such childish behavior from what are suppposed to young adults.
After school I had anquick dr appt, then came home and decided to play my wii fit game. I had wanted to go for a run in the park today, but it's rain/sleet/snowing so I couldn't. And I was having such a good time on the wii until my uncle started texting me, throwing a toddler tantrum because my mom won't talk to him on the phone for hours every single night, and she should because she doesn't work so she doesn't have a life and should be free to talk whenever he feels like it. So he's decided he isn't going to visit in the spring and has canceled his plane ticket. I will admit that after the kids I had to deal with today, then my uncle acting like a spoiled toddler, the text Insent him back in return wasn't pretty. Mom and I are the type of people that we just mentally can't handle talking to someone for hours every single day. It's so draining. And yes mom does have a life, even though she isn't working. She has a family, friends, and hobbies, and therefore isn't always available. I think my uncle was expecting me to sympathize with him, but I'm so tired of grown people acting like children. If I wanted to cater to toddlers, I'd be teaching preschool. So people just need to start acting their age already and stop throwing ridiculous hissy fits.

Thank you to all your kind thoughts and comments for my Mindy, I appreciate it. The appointment well really well actually. To start with the vet was able to take her temperature, which no vet has been able to do in YEARS, and when we weighed her she was 7.3 pounds. So since she was last at the vet 2 months ago she has gained a whole poind, and is now back to her ideal healthy weight. And the tech was amazing. She sprayed the towel I always bring with nice calming kitty pheremones to help Mindy relax a bit, then wrapped her in a nice tight kitty burrito. And the vet was able to quickly pull the blood, and get enough to run a full body panel. So yay!
Mindy suffers from hyperthyroidism, which has no cure. Her meds (which the vet called today to let me know were working and her dosgae was perfect) are slowing the damage, but isn't stopping it. They can give her another 3-5 years of happy life before the disease takes her away from me.
But on a happeir note, I had dinner with my parents last night before heading to choir practice (both of which were lots of fun). And today I subbed for a math teacher that had a great group of students. All I had to do was give them their assignment, and they just sat down and quietly worked. I didn't have to get on to anybody to stay on task. So I actually spent most of the day reading a new book, Serephina. It's about a medieval land that has a peace truce with the dragons, and the main character happens to be from a dragon mother and a human father. And it's all about the struggles she's facing trying to keep this secret while trying to solve a murder of the prince. I'm only half way through but I can't wait to finish it.
So today I'm only subbing half day, morning. At 1:00 I have to take Mindy into the vet to have some blood work done. I REALLY don't want to, I know that it's going to hurt her. She screams and flails, it takes three of us to hold her little 6 pounds down so that the vet can get the blood. And we can't give her anything to calm her down because of her age, it would be too dangerous. She needs the test done, to see if the dosage of her meds is working, but she's my baby and they're going to hurt her. I want to just keep her home and wrap her in warm soft blankets. I think I'm going to call my mom to see if she'll come with, I just don't know if I can take her in by myself to be poked.
