An Arc the Lad Fanfiction
Beauty and the Pyrenian
By: Lenne Tenjo
My Story Begins Here...
My name is Hime Osaki and I am just your average high school student. I just started, so that means I am 16 years old. I love to do all kinds of things, dance, sing... heh, I even love playing video games! My favorite song is ‘Stare At The Sun’ by Thrice, and I’ve even gotten to sing Yuna’s ‘Real Emotion’ song. They’re good songs, but I think I like the music from Arc The Lad better. I have all five video games, but my favorite is Arc the Lad II. Did you know there was an anime out about it?
Yea... Well there is.. I’ve watched the japanese version on youtube.com, but I haven’t found the english version..
It was just a normal day when it happened. I mean...why today...and not another day? It doesn’t make sense. Well, I’ll explain it better.
“Goodbye, Mom! I’m off to school!” I called out to my mother as I did everyday on my way to school.
“Have a good day, Hime.” Mom called back to me. It was a completely normal day; I put on my shoes and left the house. I grabbed my bookbag and broke into a run to school. I love running. I am the champion of running on Track and Field day. Practice every day to get myself in shape.
After school, my friends and I were walking home when we passed the Shrine of Lost Souls. I looked over at it. Many people had gone in there and never returned. Elc’s mom was actually a good friend of my mom’s. I had noticed the resemblance between Reyie and Elc before. Reyie had gone in there to pray and never came back out.
“Hey, Hime...” Sasami looked over at me.
“Yeah, Sasami?” I asked, looking at her.
“I dare you to go into that shrine! Or are you afraid you might get.... spirited away?!” My friends laughed at that. I did, too. It was funny.
“How about... if you come out in three minutes.... we all owe you $10?” Miyoko asked.
“It’s a bet!” I shook their hands and took one last look at them before running into the entrance of the shrine.
I walked into the shrine and something caught my eye. A tipped-over statue of a sad soul. I cried to myself. It was so beautifully made... To make all the dead people happy, I pushed the statue up to its normal position. I then stood there, marveling at it. It looked like a true protector of the shrine. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy and almost made me forget about the bet. OMG!!! The bet! I wildly looked around for the entrance. It seemed to have been lost when I walked in. Then I heard noises in the shrine and walked in. I pushed some of my purple hair back off my shoulder and continued walking in. While I was walking, I got my foot stuck in the rotted wooden panels on the floor.
“What rotten luck. I’d better get a carpenter to fix this later.” I said, and tried to pull myself out. The floor broke and I fell into a starry dimension....
-------------
When I regained consciousness, I was in a forest. Now, this wasn’t your average forest. There was no wildlife or anything. There was an eerie mist surrounding the forest, though. It was sometimes hard to distinguish people in the mist. I stood up and looked around. I was lost. I didn’t know where I was.
“All right, Hime. Don’t panic.” I told myself. “Just stay calm and find your way out...” I began to walk around, sometimes feeling around, to find my way out. I finally came upon the exit, and walked out into the sunshine. I looked up at the sky. It was blue and cloudless, not like the sky in Okinawa. As I started walking again, I heard voices.
“Sure, I could be the bait.... BUT I DON’T WANT TO GO BACK THERE!” A voice screamed.
“Wow, Elc sure is touchy today.” A female voice said.
“Try to imagine how he feels, Leeza.” A man’s voice said. I looked down. There were people below me. Brown hair, blonde hair and blue hair. Elc, Leeza and Shu.... Was I in a video game?
To add another question, I began to wonder how I had gotten here in the first place. I remembered falling, but how could falling make me come to this world? It really didn’t make sense to me.
I looked behind me. There was a bunch of Scorpions followed by a blue Scorpion coming up behind me. I took a deep breath and jumped off the small hill.
“AAAAAHHHHH!!” I screamed before landing on Elc.
“Ugmh!!” Elc cried out as I landed on him.
“Whoa, where’d she come from?” Leeza asked. I got off of Elc before holding my hand out to help him back up. He smacked it away and stood up. The Scorpions were now in front of us. I turned around and stepped back. Elc, Leeza and Shu took out the Scorpions before the blue Scorpion went after Elc! He murmured something under his breath, and then flames sprouted out around the blue Scorpion. I watched as the blue Scorpion was burned to ashes.
“Control yourself next time, Elc. We need evidence that our hunt was-” Elc cut Shu off.
“We don’t need evidence.” He said.
“Elc’s right....” Leeza said. “But.... another question! Who’s she?”
“I don’t know! I’ve never seen her in my life!” Elc said.
“Umm..... do you know a woman named Reyie?” I asked. Elc looked shocked.
“H-How do you know my mother?!” He asked. “Are YOU the one responsible for her death?!”
I looked at him before taking out a necklace that Reyie had left behind and giving it to Elc.
“This is her favorite necklace. I only have it because Reyie gave it to me... I think it should be yours now.” I said. Elc took it.
------------
“So, what’s your name?” Leeza asked as we headed for a place called Rueloon. It was full of people. I looked around and saw a bunch of people. It was just like a city, and it looked cool.
“My name’s Hime Osaki. My friends call me Hime-chan or just Hime.”
“I’m Leeza. This is Elc, and that’s Shu.” Leeza said. “We’re hunters!”
“Wow....” I said. “That’s cool! But what was the bait thing about?” I asked.
“There’s a bill out for my Pandit, and we’re trying to figure out who posted it, but Elc doesn’t like being the bait.”
“Maybe I could bait them. I’ve been the victim in several bait-issued crimes.” I said. “Relax. It’s nothing new to me.”
So Elc, Leeza and Shu told me what to do. I was to be with Pandit at all times and pretend to scream when the bill posters come close. Pandit, on the other hand, would be acting like a normal wolf. So I did, and they caught them.
After figuring out that they were only paid to post bills, they had to let them go. I pet Pandit and smiled. I had always loved animals, and wolves were no exception. Pandit seemed to like me, too. I hugged Pandit, and then I stood up.
“Leeza, your wolf’s so cute!” I said. “I can’t remember when I saw something as soft and as furry as him!”
“Me, either!” Leeza said. We both got along very well.
Afterwards, we headed back to town and went to a hotel. I kindly declined the offer for a room and stayed outside for the night. I didn’t want to impose.
When morning came, I woke up bright and early. I was used to sleeping very little because of school. But now, since I didn’t have school, I didn’t really have a schedule.
------------
Well, the days went by pretty quickly after the hunt about Pandit. I did have a bad day, though...
“I mean it, Hime! You can’t come this time! You have to stay here!” Shu said sternly.
“But I can help!”
“You’d just be in the way!” Elc said.
“Leeza, help me!”
“I’m sorry, Hime.... but they’re right. You’ll just be in the way.” Leeza said sadly.
“Bu-but I... I.... I.... DAMN IT!” I ran outside.
“HIME, WAIT!” Elc shouted, but I had run out of sight.
I was as far away from Parenza as possible. There was nothing the matter with me, but I felt as if I shouldn’t be around them anymore. It was all my fault that Elc nearly died... that Shu was caught.... that Leeza was almost tortured.... I WAS in the way...
I didn’t hear the footsteps behind me as they drew closer and closer. When I did, it was too late....
“MRRPHH!!!”
----------
I couldn’t believe what I had heard about Elc’s past. His friend here told me. After losing his entire family and his whole village to the Great Disaster, he was kidnapped and taken to White House, where he was experimented on until he nearly lost his mind. It resulted in his current emotional state. Complete unpredictability, temporary insanity and, worse of all, he’s extremely dangerous! I had my knees pulled up to my chest. After running away from the group because Shu wouldn’t let me come with them on their next hunt, saying that I would be better off staying in the guild, I got captured by White House. I sat in my room, not knowing what to do. I had no special powers, no abilities to define me as ‘different’.... nothing to my name. I felt tears welling up in my eyes.
“No...” I whispered. “NOOOO!!!!”
Suddenly, I heard a roar of wind and flames, and the door was gone. No one was outside of it, so I guessed that it was just a trick. I got up and walked to the door. No one. I looked around.... still no one. Then I looked at my hands. The scientists here at White House were running at me. I screamed.
“STAY AWAY!”
Flames erupted around the men. They all screamed in pain. What was happening to me?
I ran away from there as fast as I could. I couldn’t go to the town near there because the scientists went there for provisions and such. So I ran south, near the Saryu Pyramids. My newfound fire-bending abilities were great in battle, although I really didn’t know how to control them without being scared half to death. After passing the pyramids, I headed through the sandstorm towards the next village, which had a guild.
-----------
“Excuse me!” I ran up to the counter. “I need to post a bill!”
“Of course. Here.” The man behind the counter gave me a paper. “Fill this out.”
I looked at it.
Name of Monster:
Petitioner’s Name:
Bounty:
Reason for Hunt:
Taking a pen, I filled out the form.
Name of Monster: Pandit
Petitioner’s Name: Mistress Sasha
Bounty: 1000 Gods
Reason for Hunt: The wolf known as Pandit has an amulet that I want back. If you have seen it, please come to Barbados and allow me to reclaim it.
I gave the paper back to the man, and he made a bill out of it and sent it to the guilds all around the world. I waited, and I waited... and I waited for them to come. Finally, I got fed up and walked away.
I heard Pandit’s bark, and I turned around.
“Hime!!” Leeza called. “Pandit, stoooop!”
“Leeza?! Pa-Pandit?! H-Hold on!” I ran back inside the guild and canceled my bill. Then I ran back outside.
“Hey, where’s Elc and Shu?”
“Investigating the new hunt on Pandit.” Leeza said. “I came here because Pandit wanted to. Isn’t that right, Pandit?”
Pandit barked and Leeza giggled.
“I hear somethin- Uh-oh.” I looked over Leeza’s shoulder. There was Shu and Elc... and Elc looked pretty mad...
“Leeza! That bill that was posted on Pandit was cancelled!” Elc said, angry. “I found out the petitioner’s name though! It was Mistress Sasha!”
“Mistress Sasha? Well, she’s long-gone now.” I lied. “Nice to see you all again, even though I bet you all aren’t happy to see me.”
Leeza looked at me. “You look tired, Hime. What happened? We got told that you were lost in the Saryu Pyramids.” She said.
“I am tired.” I said. “But at least I made it through the sandstorm. I couldn’t go to the other town ‘cuz I was too scared of the people there.”
“Typical women. Scared of everything.” Elc said sarcastically. Shu nodded his head in agreement.
“What was THAT supposed to mean, Elc?” Leeza and I shouted together. Pandit barked and jumped on me... and then started licking me half to death!
“Pandit! Pandit, stop it!” Leeza said. Pandit stopped licking me and got off. I got up and dusted myself off.
“Pandit likes you a LOT.” She pointed out. I smiled, innocently hiding my deception. If they knew where I had been, I would be toast. And I mean that literally.
“Hime, about your clothes...” Shu began.
“Wh-what about them?” I asked.
“They’re a little torn.”
“O-oh? Really? I must’ve gotten into a skirmish with some fiends. Thanks for pointing that out. Can I go home now?”
“What the HELL are you talking about, Hime? Home?” Elc asked. “I don’t think you have a home, for one. And two, how the hell are you going to get back there?”
“You’re really.... a foul-mouthed brat.” I said. “One, I have a home and two... well, I don’t really know. If I found the Temple of Lost Souls again, I’ll be able to go back home!”
“Where is your home, Hime?” Leeza asked.
I didn’t answer that. I couldn’t. How could I tell them that the place I was from was in a whole different dimension? I just couldn’t answer that question... so I decided to lie.
“It’s somewhere around Ragnoth, that much I’m sure of.” I lied.
“Hmm... Something tells me you’re not telling the truth.” Shu said. He examined me closely. I looked away, knowing that he would see right through my act. I felt a hand grab my chin. Soon, I was staring Shu in the eyes. He and I stared at each other for a few until he let me go and looked at the others.
“Something’s wrong. Hime isn’t herself anymore.”
“Oh-ho-ho... Really? I was under the impression that I was. I mean, who could tell, right?” I smiled.
“Now that you mention it, she IS hiding something. I think she IS lying.” Leeza said. Pandit barked in agreement.
--------
“Hime, tell us. What happened to you?” Elc asked. But, before I could answer, I heard footsteps and turned around. People were coming. But not the kind I liked. Elc and Leeza both took a few steps back.
“White House Scientists!” Elc growled.
“Do something!” Leeza sobbed.
“Hime, get back!” Shu said.
“No!” I said defiantly. “They’ve come for one reason. And I’m gonna make sure you three are unharmed.”
One of the scientists walked up to me. He grabbed my hair and pulled me towards him. I didn’t scream or yell. I focused my energy and a small spark of flames erupted on his lab coat. He screamed and let go of me. I hit the ground hard. The others watched as that scientist did the ‘Fire Dance’. I couldn’t remember the last time I had been scared so much. They were after me. Tears filled my eyes. Those scientists were going to take me away again. I didn’t want to go away. So I did the only thing I was good at.... And I cried.
When I cried, my powers went crazy. The White House Scientists AND my new friends were on the recieving end of my anguish. All my fears and my pains were half the cause.
“Elc, knock it off!” Shu shouted over the roar of the flames.
“It’s not me!” Elc shouted back. “Hime, get out of there! They’re gonna burn you, too!”
“WAAAAAAHHHHH!! *sob* *sob*”
“She can’t hear us!” Leeza sobbed. “Oh, Elc! Do something!”
“She’s terrified!” Shu shouted. “Hime, come on! Let’s go before it’s too late!”
“WAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!! *hic* *hic* *sob* *sob*”
“Uh.... Elc? I’d hate to ask you this-” He began.
“Then don’t!” Elc interrupted.
“-but can you go comfort her? You’re the only one who can go by unharmed.” Shu finished.
“Yeah! We’d get burnt to a crisp!” Leeza agreed.
“Tch. Fine.” Elc shook his head and walked right through the flames. I was crying so hard that I didn’t even see him coming.
-------
Ever so gently, he pulled me to a standing position and put his arms around me, trying to quiet my sobs.
“Hime, it’s all right. They’re gone. They’re gone.” He said. The gentleness in his voice (and I thought he was ALL sarcasm!) gave me a little courage. I looked at him.
“Why, Elc? Why am I like this? Why am I here?” I asked.
The flames died down as Elc replied to my question. “You’re here because fate brought you here. And it’s all right. Everyone’s different.”
“Hime.” Shu and Leeza walked over to us. “Elc, thanks for helping.”
“Whatever.” Elc said. He let me go. “Hime, we’ve actually been looking for you for two weeks. Where were you? And why did that guy grab you?”
“You remember that day you all told me to stay at the guild? Well, I remember running off and hiding from you. I was gonna come back in two hours when I caught that thing you guys were after. But I was caught instead. I was drugged and taken away.....” I trailed off.
“Drugged? By who?” Shu asked, suddenly serious.
“....Drugged? I meant mugged! I was mugged and MY WALLET was taken away! Ahahahahahaha! Well, back to work!” I may have laughed, but it was fake.
Elc, Leeza and Shu looked at each other.
“You were... mugged?” Leeza asked.
“Yep! Then I forgot I didn’t have a wallet, so bleah.”
“Hime! Tell us the truth!” Shu took me by the shoulders. “What happened to you?! Why were those men after you?!”
For the first time in my life, I punched someone... and that someone was Shu. “GET OFF OF ME! I DON’T HAVE TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS! IT’S HARD ENOUGH HAVING STRANGE PEOPLE CHASING ME!! W-waaaahhhhh....” I started crying again. “I hate you!” And I ran off, crying, back into the sandstorm towards the Saryu pyramids.
----------
“Way to go, Hime. Go and get yourself caught again. NO! I am NOT taking those damn drugs! They’re killing my mind!” I shouted. The scientist grabbed my chin and forced me to take the drugs. I calmed down, but when he was gone, I went to the bathroom and spit them out in the toilet. Then I washed my mouth out and went to sit on my bed. I hated the fact that I had allowed myself to be captured. As I was mulling over what had happened a few weeks back, an alarm sounded. All the doors were opened and us captured people ran out of the doors. The scientists were under attack! That’s when I saw one of them go down. He had been shot in the head. It was a raid! The scientists were being attacked. We were being taken back to our rooms by surviving scientists, but those ones got taken down, too! I heard Pandit whining like he was hurt! I followed the sound and found Pandit trying to wake Leeza up. She had been knocked unconscious. I walked to Pandit and pet him to calm him down. Then I woke Leeza up.
“Hime! You’re alive.” Leeza said.
“Barely. When I ran away, I was caught. They’ve been experimenting on me. It’s killing my mind. I’m going insane.” I said. My hands were shaking as I untied her. “I can’t control this freakish power of mine. I don’t know what to do. The scientists... they force me to take Control Pills so I would be their weapon... but I figured it out. Get out of here while you still can. I can’t go on like this. I’ll join the fight.... and die trying to free you all.”
“No! Hime, WAIT!”
--------
Maybe more later... I’m tired now. It’s past 3:00... I’ve been working on this non-stop....
*yawn* so tired... Hime, go to sleep. You too, Elc. And you, Leeza and Shu...
Nighty-night...

This is a fanfiction made entirely for Arc The Lad. If you don't like it... BITE ME!
My name is Hime Osaki.
I am only 16 years old. You know the story of Arc the Lad 2? I don't, personally. But I'm holding a secret.
Two years ago, I was taken to another world by accident, much how Kagome Higurashi found the Feudal Era of Japan. There was this group. Three people in a hunter's guild. I was caught by this Blue Scorpion and nearly killed when one of those hunters, a young boy, attacked the scorpion with a spear. Naturally, I was okay... with a few cuts here and there. My blue school uniform was ruined. I was able to sew it back up and give myself a chance to explain before the oldest one asked me where I was from. When I said I was from Okinawa, they looked at me like I was crazy and the girl asked if Okinawa was somewhere near Ragnoth. At first, it seemed we wouldn't get along, arguing and such.. but I became a valuable member once I found out I was special in a different kind of way.
To those of you who don't know what I am... I am a Pyrenian. My father was one. My mom was human. A normal human who hated the supernatural.
(You gotta wait for more next time! Sorry!)
