Sleeping Flower

I am like a timid fox
By myself, I frolic in the sun
But when people come, I'm scared
And I turn tail and run

I am trapped in darkness of my own making
Loneliness is tearing me apart
But I'm too afraid to let you in
The fortress that is my heart

Loss and betrayal burned my bridge of trust
So I locked myself inside
But I know that someone can rebuild that bridge
Until then, in this dungeon I will hide

I am riding on a sinking boat
Lost upon a stormy sea
Though all alone, I hold out hope
That someone will come and rescue me

I am nothing but a sleeping flower
Closed up so the world can’t see
Waiting for my morning light
Whoever that will be
