Hello there all. So, in a few months time, we the fans will be given a glimpse of something magical. It's called The Avengers!!!
But what many people out there truly don't know who the real Avengers are. Sure, Hollywood has done a bang up job on introducing them the the general public. But way before gen pop knew about these heroes, the comic fans were behind them and loved them.
I love that this special team has been made into a movie and just loved the way that Marvel left the breadcrumbs in other movies teasing the fans for the eventual release. That's something that the other giant comic company has failed to do ever.
So being a huge comic fan, I thought since I have this blog thingie, and since a lot of my fellow otaku's may or may not be into American Comics and have only been expose to these wonderful characters through the big screen, I figured it'd be nice to show everyone just who the real Avengers are.
You've seen some of the characters in the movies as of late and pretty much know them as far as they were written today. But yesterday, back in the '60's, these characters were Gods among men. DC Comics was doing great but not as well as they could've been. They had a vast library to work with and literally dozens of different worlds to play with. But it took a basic upstart company to make heroes that were different and flawed to get the world to notice. This company has been able to make characters that we, the people, can sort of relate to. They are not perfect. Some of them were pretty normal and something freakish happen to them that made them super. Where as DC Comics had the Justice League, in my opinion, they really weren't doing much with them. Hell the entire company was ok for a while and didn't get the real juices flowing until 'Crisis' (more about that in a future post)
So anyway, I'm going to show you guys my 1st...or 2nd love. I grew up reading comics since I was in diapers. My uncle used to collect them and only read Marvel. I have so far counted over a thousand comics that I personally have, so I've read a hella lot. I'm anal when it comes to the movies because of what I know happened and what I know the people in charge could've done....but choose not to. But seriously, what fan isn't? Try sitting there and watch a movie or a show based on something you love and see how the big movers and shakers piss all over it. Who's seen Catwoman, that's a fan of the books, and loved it? Exactly. Look, I know I'm adding fuel to a possible flame war that is about to erupt. All I'm doing, is showing some love to some of the greatest people ever created. The fans have laughed with them, cried with them, scratched their heads about them, and hated them. But throughout it all, they've been there for them. If not for us, we wouldn't have had the chance to see them on the big screen. So, as a fan, I want to thank all of you for screaming and yelling enough to get the right people to listen. And so, let's begin.....
