Until We Meet Again

Chapter Five: Terrorism Down Under, Part Two

Edward

Edward and Carson made it to the first floodgate in about thirty minutes. The two of them stood in the hallway that lead into the rectangular area. Along the far side of the area was the floodgate and the sewer river. The gate was raised just enough to let the water flow gently down the river. At the front of the area, near the floodgate, were four men; three with rifles and one who appeared to be an alchemist. One of the men holding a rifle was on an elevated balcony, standing infront of the console for the floodgate

Edward turned to Carson. "Alchemy time. You ready?" She nodded. "Okay. About sixty feet away, coil the concrete at the alchemist's feet around his body so he can't transmute. Then, after that, transmute a large stone wall about twenty feet away."

Carson quietly put her hands together and touched to ground. Pale blue streaks of light flashed along the ground as the stone at the alchemist's feet bulged and wrapped around him. The other three men barely had time to locate their position before Carson threw up a wall.

"Come on!" Edward grabbed Carson's wrist and dashed behind the wall. As soon as they reached the wall a hail of bullets rained down on them. "Carson! Transmute a long staff, no blades!"

In seconds, Carson fashioned a staff from the ground and handed it to Edward. The instant the gunfire stopped, Edward stepped away from the wall and hurled the staff at the guy on the balcony. The staff spun like a boomerang and connected with the man's forehead, rendering him unconcious. Edward slipped back behind the wall and the gunfire resumed.

"Now I need a long, sharp blade!"

Alchemy light flashed and Carson held out a long sword. Edward took it from her and waited for the next pause in the gunfire. When it came, he closed the remaining fourty feet between him and the last two terrorists and slashed through the barrels of both their rifles. They dropped their half of the rifles and raised their hands in surrender. But Edward only smirked and knocked them both out.

"They surrendered. Why'd you knock them out?" asked Carson, walking over.

"Rule of thumb: Never trust a terrorist. Now, let's tie these goons up. You can transmute a metal cord from the railing on the balcony." Edward turned to the alchemist, still covered in concrete. "And you are going to stay there." The alchemist glared at him but remained silent.

"Which way do we go now?" Carson asked after tying up the terrorists.

"I'm pretty sure we're on the eastern part of the city so let's head northwest until we reach the next floodgate."

"There's another hallway on the other side of the balcony." Carson said pointing.

"We'll go that way then."

And they headed for the next area.
