A Cosplay Story

A Cosplay Story

My mother scrolled down my Christmas list stopping at one wanted present in particular. "A Kikyo costume?" she eyed me.

"No Mom, it's called cosplay!" I replied annoyed.

"Where are we going to find that? And WHEN are you going to wear it?" My mom asked me the two questions I had most feared. I quickly thought up an excuse for both of them.

"We can check on EBay and I’d wear it for Halloween!?" I said hopefully. My mother rolled her eyes.

"Fine we’ll look on EBay." She said reluctantly.

"Yes!" I cried rushing down to the computer to turn it on.

"After supper!" My mom called down the stairs.

"Darn!"

I went on EBay and typed in "Kikyo cosplay". Let’s just say there were a lot of items. I found one I liked and clicked, my mother leaning over my shoulder. "Only $58.99!" I said happily.

"No Emily*." My mother said.

"Why!?" I said angrily. She pointed to the tax and shipping. ($89.00). I felt tears well up. "Come on Mom please!" I begged.

"No I’m not spending that much money on a costume that you’ll never wear!" My mom shot.

"I’ll just find a site that does have a low price!"(that does what?) I yelled.

"I doubt you’ll find one." My mom said then left. I went on to Google. I typed in "Cosplay". I browsed the titles and found one that seemed promising. "Lets try this." I thought.

I looked at the site, called Moon Costumes, and found what I’d been looking for. $83.73. "But what’s the shipping?" I thought. I couldn’t find it anywhere until I clicked on the link to their shipping policy. The shipping was $5. "MOM!!!!" I yelled hearing her come down I grew more and more excited. "It’s only $5 shipping." I exclaimed.

"I don’t know Emily*, we’ll have to see." She said. My excitement crashed down to disappointment and I put the site on my favorites. Turning off the computer I slowly got ready for bed and fell asleep. My last thoughts before I dozed off were "Well this sucks".

Christmas morning and I had completely forgotten about the cosplay. I excitedly opened my presents one after the other. Then I picked up a box that read "To: Emily* From: Mom". I quickly ripped the paper, expecting it to be some clothes. To my great delight I saw and Kikyo costume carefully folded. "YOU DIDN’T!!! YOU DIDN’T!!" I screamed and ran to hug my mother. "You said you weren’t going to get it!!", I exclaimed.

"Not until you found that site!", my mom laughed. I was so happy and I rushed to put it on. I looked nice in it and pranced around the living room, long sleeves gliding with me.

"Thank you so much Mom!" I thanked again.

She smiled. "You're welcome, Kikyo." She replied.
